Yeh, I got that, but didn't make it clear what I was getting at. SYD spa closes at 5pm, with boarding for all remaining F flights within 45 mins of the spa closing, which sort of makes sense. Doesn't mean that MEL would close at 5pm, given that 1/3rd of it's F pax depart around midnight (it has three specific bursts of F pax - before the flights at midday, 5pm and midnight).

Oh
Thanks for the heads up/clarity I booked it out of SYD but can change to MEL
Wonder what the best way to find out what the operating hours are?
I like the late departure actually so a Mel departure might still be in the cards
Cheers

Looks like it's resuming from 15 Feb onwards.

Was on HKG-MEL last week; loads in the premium cabins were ridiculously light. Only half the seats in the F cabin (sold as J) were occupied, back in the J cabin there were only about 6 people in total, and premium economy was also half empty. We had booked an F award in seats 1A and 1K and kept the seats when F was cancelled.

The back of the plane was very full, however.

It was quite a pleasant flight.

SYD has the full design concept which MEL just can't match.
However for the "soft" component MEL is the winner by a mile.
I agree. Melbourne lounge (and F check-in) staff are far, far nicer than those at SYD. I actually intentionally fly out of Melbourne because the staff are so lovely.

I too would commend the MEL T2 F check-in staff. [The MEL lounge staff are "nice" too, but if I compare to SYD, where I tend to sit down the far end section (near the spa), I prefer the peace and quiet that the this non-stationed section delivers. But, as I am more than capable of getting up and getting what I want myself, I really don't need waiting on hand-n-foot, (but should add that MEL lounge staff are still quiet attentive). Others, of course, would have differing expectations, and presumably choose to sit (or be seated*) elsewhere.]

* I assume that I am not seated or escorted thru the lounge, as I don't require it - as opposed to a first time or infrequent visitor who might appreciate it.

Also, SYD F lounge staff, haven't asked for my name (~ 1st 4 letters), when ordering F&B for quite sometime now, while MEL F lounge still does anyone else noticed this?

MEL F lounge still appears to be run by-the-book, where as SYD has (as usual) developed a more laissez-faire approach. Another example of differing attitudes is when attempting to order off-menu, in SYD I have not encountered a problem (within reason) in MEL if it's not on the menu, then it's all a bit too difficult.

I find it depends on the staff member. A number (at both SYD & MEL) remember who I am.

.

I've caught the QF29 flight many times back to London - the lounge is always open for that flight.

I did SYD-AKL-SYD last week and I cannot fathom how such a surley person can occupy the F check-in at SYD. Did she hate me because I made her move from sitting at another terminal presumably surfing the net, being only a lowly J pax? No other pax in F area and only one check-in agent. She then proceeded to tag my bags placing the ''Business'' pink tag almost diagonally so that it was 80% covered stuck in between both halves of the destination tag! (By rights it should have been an F tag).

Then I proceed to F lounge staff lovely, food excellent and a nice experience overall. I proceeded to grab a quick shower with no amentities of my own. I was pretty surprised to see the razor a cheaper plastic version, toothbrush and paste also QC standard, no mosituriser and apon request no deodorant or mouthwash(both of which I had been given when requested from the nice Asian lady who tends the shower area on 3 previous occasions) To top things off no more brush given either!!

I requested to see the F lounge manager and told him I wasnt impressed standards had dropped. He was nice and gave me a ladys Payot kit as well as a mens kit. I'm guessing both F class amenity kit offerings? If QF are going to charge F and J fares well beyond competitors they shouldn't have the right to drop the service standards. Esp since they set a precendent...."I'm sorry sir if you had come to expect these items as they are no longer offered"

AKL Lounge:

On my way home checked in at AKL using F check in section-staff member couldn't be more pleasant. Proceeded to lounge and on entry was directed to J lounge I asked about the F lounge.."is it closed"? the dragon lady replied and said.."well you can use the F lounge if you like but it's exactly the same as the business lounge" which made it very akward for me. I didn't respond and just went to F lounge.

Where does QF get off employing such terrible, arrogant and disinterested people. Where is front line quality control and the "excellence" QF are now supposed to be delivering? In flight service both ways was excellent however(one way with Qantas the return with Jet Connect)

Baggage at both ends even J and F tagged(on way back) bags came out well after 1/3 of Y bags. SYD was terrible J pax were waiting even longer for bags about half way through Y bags being delivered.

I have SYD-LHR-SYD in J next month on the 380. Won't be holding my breath but at least I'd have accumulated my minimum 4 sectors for requalifying status and experience the 380 for first time but will switch to CX for EU trips and LA for AKL runs without question for all future travel. This is just getting ridiculous on QF's part. No need to have to put up with such crap when paying for premium travel.

Actually, "Business" was correct - as a WP, you get tagged for the highest cabin on the flight you are on - since there is no F to AKL, then a "Business" tag reflects the highest cabin for your flight.

I now avoid BNE whenever I can because of the very poor check-in experience there. I have not had any bad experience at all at MEL - in fact they have all been excellent. I have had some substandard ones at SYD, and rather rude non-check-in ground staff there too, so I also try to avoid SYD. So I try and fly out of MEL as much as I can when it comes to international flights.

I have had 4 sectors on A380 LHR-SYD-LHR. 3 were awful - services were what I would call "services? What services?!". It was far below even what I would have expected in whY, never mind J. One was, however, fantastic. I think it's pretty much mixed.

However, apart from Malev, which I found consistently poor, my average experience with QF has been the worst of any airline I have flown on. They have been terrible mixed with excellent - but there is so much 'terrible' that it brings down QF's 'average' in my experience.

However, it makes it hard to dump them when there are still excellence, like MEL F check-in and F lounge people (who they seem to interchange quite a bit), some terrific cabin crew, etc.

Where does it say that in the rules? I got an F tag on way back as has occured in past out of AKL. The Plat benefits state clearly F tag on all international flights; no clarifications. Your logic is accepted though.

The comment was in relation to the Spa being open - having the lounges in question open is a given ...
