I'm a TSA screener and I agree with 99.9% of what you just posted. My feeling is we are NOT the Gestapo. What we do should be more open to our fellow citizens.

The TSA makes the rules and we have no say in the matter? By God, no.

Gee that's nice. I work as a TSA screener at one of the most busiest airports in the country and we certainly get our share of verbal abuse. But you know what? Considering that passengers come to our airports under some of the worst circumstances (i.e. long business trips, funerals, you name it) you are bound to get people who aren't in the mood for our procedures which to outsiders make no sense at all.

As screeners, our job is promote free and safe travel. Where do you get the idea that you don't have to let a passenger through because your feelings were hurt?

It's a respect thing for me. If you're running late, it's your fault, not mine. If there is a line, get there early so the line doesn't matter. When did we as people start to believe that everything revolves around us? Are we that conceited? That we think we control everything. That we have to have it our way everytime. I'm not taking up for the TSA anymore, I've gone to part time, to keep myself in the government loop, so to speak, but I have been given a job training local law enforcement and womens self defense. Everyone has an opinion and I've come to understand that. Whether that opinion is agreeable with mine, I could care less. But, I do think we as a society need to take a step back and look at where we are at and where we are heading. It seems like no one is getting through life now with happiness. We are getting by through complaints. I had an interesting experience the other day, I was working one of our curbside stations, and this woman came out and seen my uniform and just started cursing because she was upset with TSA, so I stood there and let her vent, and nodded and smiled, and she kept getting more and more angry when I failed to argue back with her. Eventually she threw up her hands and went back inside the airport in disgust. About 10 minutes later I was on my lunch break, and she happened to walk inside the cafe and seen me eating and sat down and apologized. I didn't expect an apology, but I accepted and we talked for a minute and she went on her way in a better mood. I just think we should take a look at what we complain and argue about. What do we get out of complaining? We don't feel better, we aren't happier, so why do it? Because we've come to a point where if we don't get things our way, then it's not right or fair...it needs to change.

I say it again. Your not with TSA any longer. Your TSA information isn't valid any longer. Why? Because your not with the TSA any longer. You should really stop posting as a TSA know-it-all and post (like me) as a TSA don't-know-it-all.

30% false positive article dated Sept 12th, 2002

Turbulent waters still lie ahead for Admiral Loy

http://www.janes.com/transport/news/...0912_1_n.shtml

"This is exacerbated by the reported high false alarm rates - around 30% - of the EDS units. EDS assesses objects by their density where, according to one expert, "plastic explosives look exactly like plum pudding, and vice versa." And, indeed, one US airport terminal was evacuated in June when an EDS machine warned of potentially explosive material which, upon inspection, turned out to be a jar of raspberry jam."

"On the other hand, Admiral Loy is clearly attempting to curb the more bizarre public behaviour of his employees. In May, a schoolboy flying home from a field trip carried a jar of pond water for his science studies, but was forbidden to take it into the aircraft until he drank and swallowed some of it to prove it was not a threatening liquid. In June, a female airline captain's nail scissors were confiscated on the grounds that she could not have anything on her person that would allow her to take control of an aircraft. In late August, TSA announced publicly that forced liquid drinking would cease, and also quietly instructed its staff to be less zealous in their scrutiny of flight crews."

That one pisses me off.

We were told to call bag check on all flight crews if they had anything on them that was on the list and we're still being told to do that.

In the past two months I've seen a screwdriver kit and nail scissors get taken.

Idiocy.

The pilots have a crash-axe and can crash the plane at will. They don't need a screwdriver to get into mischief. If they want to crash the plane or axe a passenger, they're going to do it and there's nothing the TSA or anyone else can do about it.

Sit back, relax, and be thankful your pilot's probably not an axe-murderer or suicidal.
