This is the United States of America, not some war zone in the middle east. Supposedly, people's civil liberties are respected in this country, just not at airports.
Posting drivel like this is akin to posting something like: "instead of applying sunscreen to avoid a sunburn in this country, we're going to make you wear a rubber wetsuit everytime you go outdoors. It's for your own protection. Don't like it? You should just be happy you don't live on Mercury where it's really hot." Totally inane.

No, the TSA does get it, you just have a huge chip on your shoulder and admit that you are looking for a fight. The actual number of false positives is well under 3%. I seldom had a positive as we would sometimes go 1-2 days without one. If it was 30% as you claim we would have bags stacked to the ceiling all the time waiting for us to resolve the alarm as it sometimes took 10-15 minutes to do so.

"Slepian said some machines falsely identify up to 35 percent of bags as having explosives and therefore may need to be opened and searched by hand. "Certain food products -- certainly peanut butters and jellies and chocolate bars -- have the same density as plastic explosives," he said."
It appears your right my figures WERE off. They were too low.....

1. They found a guy at PIT on a plane that remained overnight.
2. A few bottles of bleach and some play-dough rode Southwest for a few days without being discovered.
3. People have carried loaded guns onto aircraft.
4. People have left checkpoints with prohibited items, and entire terminals have been shuttered.
5. LAX was evacuated because somebody found a sparkler in a bathroom.
Need I go on?

You forgot to mention when they found the playdough and boxcutters they began to inspect EVERY USA aircraft (SouthWest, I think, did inspect all their planes, probably only the bathrooms) then a couple of hours later decided there was no threat and recinded the order. To date they've been given nearly 6 billion dollars (in only 2 years!). I wonder how many billion they've cost airlines and airports with in their haste to protect us from among other things, sparklers.

Hah, I don't trust all of my TSA co-workers! I've witnessed TSA supervisors who have stolen from passengers and the government. I've managed to get two fired, but I am still working on the other two. This has been more difficult because management is closing ranks and using intimidation techniques. I'd really welcome an opportunity to appear before a Congressional Hearing about the cronyism and corruption I have observed at my airport.
