Good point, I had 1 carry-on only. LAX-SFO was on an Embraer 175 with little overhead space. Ground staff informed passengers that only true carry-ons without any extensions or oversizing would fit. Lots of people had to check in carry-ons (but priority boarding passengers were ok).

I am looking for a return Condor flights. There is option to choose fare which has refund with a fee, and another one which has refund without fee (only the fare difference). Is it possible to somehow see the amount which is in this case the "fee" before I actually buy the ticket? I want to know how much change would cost me.

Charges for changing dates on the ticket
 

I was charged $215, each way, plus fare difference, for changing the dates of departure and return on my original transatlantic ticket. I did it about a month ago, and the ticket was PHX- FRA in business class, if it makes any difference. My fare did not allow a total refund of the money. Only date changes were allowed, for a fee.

hope it would be lower penalty for economy and if I would adjust the date it would be only return. You found out about the price only later after the ticket was purchased or you could see it during the booking process?

To answer your question, I tried to change the dates on MyCondor site first and figure out the penalty - no luck. I had to call Condor for this info and had to make the change while talking to "live" person. Actually, it was pretty quick and painless process. The only surprise was that if the price of the new ticket is less than the original one, Condor is not going to account for that. You'll still have to pay the full amount of penalty. Good luck.

Condor at PHX experience
 

Have you taken the PHX-FRA flight yet? I will be doing the PHX-FRA Condor flight later in the month and am trying to get a feel for the PHX experience. I have been watching flight status on Condor flights out of PHX for about a month. On-time record looks a little iffy. Is my understanding correct that even if checking in online you must take a printed paper copy to the airport to get a boarding pass? I understand you won't be able to help me much if you have not yet taken your flights.

On another note, my fare is fully refundable and changeable at no fee, and I did have to change it once a couple of months ago. Finding the fare for the new date was significantly less, I called Condor and they said no refund would be forthcoming if I changed the flights, so I just booked the new itinerary under a different credit card and cancelled the old, no-penalty flights later and got a (rapid) credit.

if you have Amex Play the Steigenberger Frankfurt City is at certain date just slightly over $200 so you could stay almost free after FHR credit

I am glad you found a way to get the $$$ in fare difference back. I'll use your method in the future on a fully refundable fare.
I have not taken my Condor flight yet and I am a little "unsure" about this unknown ( to me ) airline. On-time departure stats from FRA to PHX don't look bad. But departures from PHX to FRA are consistently late. Luckily, I don't have a connection in FRA.
My flight is at the end of August. I sure need to stop stressing myself over it :D.

Airline is around forever and now has brand new Airplanes. I find service/meal as good as any European/US carrier and the seat better than most.

Yes, I am planning on doing it when I check-in for the flight. I don't believe I could do it earlier, but I might be wrong.
