Thank you for your thoughts. I was hoping you would respond. We need to go to Brittany. I checked train times and it can be a 10 hour train ride with a transfer in Paris. That's a lot. The flight from LAX arrives at 1pm ish. The only flight onward is at 4 ish. My uncertainty more than anything is where to book a hotel that night. Do I assume we make the onward flight? But if we miss it, then we lose the money committed to a hotel room. I've booked my aspirational stays beginning the next night.

Personally I would take the 3h risk. Otherwise stay a night at the airport for an early am departure and visit the old town after you arrive.

You can use AS or EK.

I'm not following. - European Commission has forced LH to reinstate the SPA with Condor.

The Commission backtracked from that position a month later.

If I were you, I would not worry much about the 3 hour connection in Frankfurt. You will have plenty of time to check your bags and to make your connection. Last year, it took me just a few minutes of brisk walk to make it to the land side of the terminal after Condor flight. I did not need to take a connecting flight that day, but I believe it would not have been a problem to accomplish it. It might help if you reserve a specific time for security line, to get to your connecting flight. Frankfurt airport allows it: https://fra.clearme.com Reserve a place/time in the security line in FRA, about (72) hrs. in advance. Use “Frankfurt SMARTWAY” or FRA airport site if you can't find CLEARME site.

Condor's LAX-FRA flights has a very good record of on-time arrivals this year. I think you'll be fine with your 3 hour connection.

But just in case if things go wrong, Frankfurt airport has a gazillion of hotels to choose from for an overnight stay without reservation. (4) of them are connected to the airport, the rest of them have shuttles. Personally, when I am without reservation, I always choose Hilton, because it is big, always have rooms available as walk-in, and it is close to the long distance train station. I also like Hyatt Mainz a lot. Just a short ride on S train and you would have a beautiful surrounding.

I am not sure about your hotel in Brittany and availability there. Is it possible not to reserve the first night of your stay, just in case you don't make your connection in FRA? Would you be able to find a place to stay the first night if everything goes fine with connection?

Good luck, and I believe you'll be fine with your 3 hour connection.

Sometimes Immigration with non Eu passport has long lines - not sure how many checkpoints there are aka if you can avoid it.
But 3h should be plenty

Thank you, @smooth. I appreciate your help. I've known your handle for more than 20 years now.

It's a great tip to book a spot in the security line. I knew nothing about that. I've got CLEAR and TSA PreCheck in the US so it's a bit of a shock to stand in a lengthy security line when in Europe.

I've deliberately not booked the hotel in Brittany where i''m headed as it is quite pricey. I'll book a hotel in Nantes on the fly if I can make the flight there. I'll be renting a car in Nantes and moving on the next day. I like your suggestion of the Hyatt Mainz. It's been some years but I've really enjoyed staying there. It's a great way to start a vacation.

And I'm checking every day to see if award space in biz opens on Air Tahiti Nui as that is much closer to where I am headed.

presume you looked into the daily Lufthansa flight from FRA to NTE ?

cfischer Jun 7, 2025 6:50 pm

Sorry Carol, somehow I had Switzerland in mind - not sure why. Frankfurt Paris is 4 hours by train - but much less frequent. The FRA-NTE flight is an option, but generally very expensive in July and August - much cheaper starting in September; not seeing any award options. Plenty of FRA-CDG flights on multiple airlines and w/o checked luggage no reason to book that single DE flight IMO. DE to LH should be easy at FRA.

That said, I would do 3 hours at FRA

Getting a delay explanation from Condor?

Hi,

Have anyone got an explanation of delay or cancel from Condor for travel insurance insurance claim before? How much wait time? I submitted a online claim form but still have not received a reply yet.

Online check-in FRA-JFK?

Thinking of booking Condor FRA-JFK with a feeder flight arriving into FRA on a separate booking 2 hours before. Is the Condor online check-in experience for US-bound flights reliable or would I have to check in person?
I'll be traveling on a GC, which usually requires a manual docs check, can this be done at the gate?

Thanks

VWP, Visa: Yes. - The APIS form does not really support Visa, but the online check-in does and can cope with it.

There's usually a doccheck podium at all gates (it's usually a small table), where they collect all the 4S people and give the ones that have not checked-in at their US counters in FRA a sticker.
At times when one could not online check-in with a Visa (in the past), they resolved it directly at the gate.
So I would assume that their gate or their transfer desk would be able to get this resolved airside.

Just try to get the destination address captured in their APIS online form (you can fill this form out only once).

Checked luggage can be tricky in your situation.

Thanks. You're saying I should ignore the APIs prior to check-in and only provide the details while checking in online?

I won't be checking bags, that's well beyond even my risk tolerance.

You can have a look at the form and see if you fell comfortable with filling it out (keep in mind everything is named so that an inexperienced tourist will make the right choice and not necessarily for an experienced frequent traveller). And either you fill it out or do it during check-in.

CarNut Jun 23, 2025 6:54 am

I just noticed that my booking requires the API form to be filled out at least 72 hours prior to departure. I won't have my passport info until about 36 hours before departure (I am out of town until then). I'm assuming that there won't be any issues but just wondering if there will be any problems with filling in the form after the "deadline".

Thanks.

Correct. You can also do it during Check-in (if I'm not mistaken the API form link might vanish 48ish hours prior to the flight).
Keep in mind that you cannot modify the API form once submitted.

They wrote it like this to wake up the typical German leisure tourist that won't do it at all and then clogs up the in-person Check-in in Frankfurt to have the data maintained.

FRA-BOS Availability 10/2025-5/2026

Any news on Condor availability/scheduling for FRA-BOS from this October through to May 2026? Looks like most, if not all, the direct flights (DE 2038) got pulled from their website (doesn't show on AS or google flights either) but direct flights still seem to exist through Sept 2025 and in June 2026.
