None. Maybe you should try turning it off and then on again?

Free speech has its limitations. When you sign somebody else's name you are not engaging in free speech but in fraud.

Still, I do not see myself as the victim -- only as a tool to hit the real victim, anonplz. I gave him the name and he is free to do with it what he would like.

I do not know who they are but they constitute traffic to THIS forum of about 20 times what has been the traditional highest. Using Randy's own figures.

This thread has about 13 times the previous page view highs. (And any visits I make as thread starter do not count AFAIK.) JonNYC's thread nearby has nearly double this.

This Forum is NOT OMNI. Where folks post 1000 times (literally) on one thread to bolster post counts. These posts are from folks with an opinion on "reputation". Using an OMNI comparison is as 'meaningful' as comparing the Varig Forum visits with AA or UA.

What you don't have the option to see, and I do, is the 'view count.' When you mention things in ORP, I can actually see not just the respond rate as you can see (post replies), but the 'view' rate of each thread. If looking for a tale of woe, you'll be disappointed to learn that it's not much more than what you see is what you get.

ORP, the highest thread view recently was 332 and that's the highest of one thread.

Open letter to those who gave me reps:

With more than 50 blings, dings, and grey boxes on my list, I have decided to start triaging and return them as follows:

1. Those who blinged me will get return blings. Perhaps that is not the way it should be done, but I am -- despite what some on Omni believe -- human.
I will start with the oldest and work my way up. However, in order to be able to reach everyone within a somewhat reasonable period of time I will not bling someone I have blinged in the past -- even if the software allows me to do it.

2. Those who sent grey boxes with nice comments: You will get blinged right after the blingers. The comments are just as important as the reps.

3. Those who sent grey boxes with no comments: Sorry, people, but I have no idea if you were trying to bling or ding me.

4. Those who dinged me: I am not making up a revenge list and dinging you back. This doesn't mean that someday in the future I may not like a post you made and give it a bad rating, but that could also happen with someone who blinged me. It just means that your ding will not play a part in this.

5. The person who sent me a grey box and signed anonplz's name: You are despicable and not worth the effort of a ding.

I've just tried everything in the book that I know of...cleared cache, logged off, shut down the computer, reconnected via dial-up AOL vs DSL Verizon, dusted off Netscape and used it instead of Internet Explorer...and I still just get the "Thread" "Date" and "Comment" columns and no "Starter" column. :(

Anyone else having this problem where they can't see the column with the handle of who's sending these?

You need to email Dan at FT, some usergroups might not have the feature turned on yet.

grey box questions...

Can someone refresh my memory and explain what a grey box means....? Is that a ding/bling that doesnt count...? Can you find out if it was a bing/ding in the first place?

Thanks.

Well gaucho, if you had read the post you chose to give me anonymous red reputation on - all of this was explained in that post :D

What PremEx said!

I've gotten a few gongs(-) and a lot of bongs(+), but the gong I got from Dovster means the most to me, because it was my first! ;)

Yes, Yes, and Maybe.

1) If the commenter has less than 250 posts or less than 20 reputation points at the time the approval or disaproval is registered, his bling or ding will not alter your reputation. And logically speaking, no, it probably won't suddenly do so once he passes the post-count or reputation threshhold. Otherwise, would the system recalculate approval points every time a poster crosses another 1000 posts or 100 reputation point milestone?

2) So yes, it is a bling or a ding that doesn't count. I like to call it a wing!

3) The system won't tell you the meaning of a gray box. You'll just have to "wing it." Or you can ask the poster. If he is candid, and you trust him, then you have your answer. "Maybe."

Me, too, by a good five days, the day before Passover. And you were second, you anonymous point gnome, you!

Teaching by example. That's how we'll learn how to use this thing.

This may be (almost) as much fun as the Freddies!

I know I've helped boost the view-count of these threads. :o

Hope everyone's getting ready to have fun in NYC.
