You mean besides it being a TOS violation?

And please don't give me the "but he started it", we are all adults here.

It would be very easy for me to allow my disagreements with Omni's moderators to join in the chorus of "shut it down."

Indeed, as I no longer post there I would not be losing very much. I can also understand the arguments being made about how Omni can turn people off about F/T completely.

For all that, I realize that there are a very large number of people who get quite a bit of pleasure from the Omni exchanges and would not like to see them deprived of that.

To that end, Omni serves a very good purpose and should be kept open.

I second Sir Dovster's post.

What I have found lately, is the Omni moderators are willing to discuss situations and issues that I've questioned regarding certain Omni posts. That is all I can ask of them.

I share the concern that some in the Omni 'community' do nothing more than chase away, or bully those with whom they disagree. This is simply immature. It dissapoints me as there are times I would like to argue with those I disagree. But I don't need the hassle of putting up with the trolls so I make a personal choice to opt out.

Still, I agree with Dovster; leave Omni open and let everyone decide for themselves.

I do not agree that it is a TOS violation.

I do find it questionable that you continue to make decisions about suspending my posting priveleges AS A MODERATOR when you PERSONALLY obviously have ill-feelings toward me.

There are three moderators. If you really think that my personal grudge with you was powerful enough to influence 2 of FT's most longstanding moderators then you give me more credit than I deserve. I didn't make the decision, I didn't close your first thread and I didn't pull your posting rights, and last but not least I don't like the accusation that I am behind all of this, why can't you just accept what you did instead of blaming everything and everyone but yourself.

If what you posted in Omni wasn't enough to have Randy seriously review your membership then your emails to us (calling us facists) or saying that "we suck" surely will, add to that massive amount of obvious personal attacks in the past 48 hours.

I love when someone is digging their own grave and they suddenly switch from a shovel to a back-hoe.

Feldspar Mar 15, 2004 3:45 pm

Interestingly, in contrast to Goldlust my crime is that I didn't call anybody any names.

Rather, one or two people were so upset at my posting a few provocative newslinks that I was on the receiving end of personal abuse as a "sleeper-cell terrorist," a "troll," and a hacker who had stolen my way into OMNI posting privileges. (It seems being given privileges from Randy is insufficient nowadays.)

skofarrell's attack claiming that I am a hacker was particularly vicious, coming as it did from somebody who is supposedly is a level-headed moderator.

And as for jfe's demands that I identify myself "or else," next time I want to post in OMNI I will be sure to send you a .jpg of my drivers' license before doing so. http://www.flyertalk.com/forum/biggrin.gif

UALOneKPlus seems to be so upset, he has written 40 or so posts in this forum in the last day attacking me. But I digress, his personal attacks aren't worthy of censure because he has 6,000 posts and jfe already has his license......

Thanks for the entertainment.

Feldspar, you forget that there are those who want everyone interested in travelling and frequent flier miles and this board to go through a full background check. Your driver's license may not be sufficient. http://www.flyertalk.com/forum/wink.gif

Some "wise folk" were even saying that the moderators need background checks before they should be given "power". http://www.flyertalk.com/forum/rolleyes.gif I was waiting for said crowd to say that all FT participants should go through the same.

Moderators here do not strike me as a power hungry bunch. I do not see them trying to be part of the crowd singing: "Everybody wants to rule the worlddddd...." (a la the music group Tears for Fears). Instead, I see them as a group trying to keep bar room brawls from breaking out. Do they do a perfect job? No. Do they do the best job that they or most anyone can do? Yes.

Where on earth did I mention or else http://www.flyertalk.com/forum/confused.gif?

All I did was to send a request to clarify the current situation?

You can do a search for it, my "private email" with you has been seen more than the Paris Hilton video (which BTW you had no right in posting)

Please, you were being disruptive, and with such little posts, I, better said, we the moderators felt the need to clarify things.

Just trying to do our jobs http://www.flyertalk.com/forum/wink.gif

why? for personal attacks?

you can read all 1400+ posts of mine, and you'll find the only blatant personal attacks are towards one user..

you.

there's something wrong when it's like that, don't you think? I disagree with a lot of things brought up on OMNI, but do I resort to personal attacks? No.

Except for you. Why? To prove a point - you didn't make an honest mistake about the first locked post, you knew it was locked. You know how to search. You resurrected a couple of articles that were down in the archives. So you've killed the "I made an honest mistake" when you proved you can search. Wondered where the thread was? Locked threads are still searchable.

The second time was to re-iterate what everyone has been trying to tell you for about a month or two... that your immature childish antics are stupid and do not belong on OMNI. It's as simple as that.

I have never recieved an email warning about a personal attack except the one time I questioned your intelligence. Why? Because in probably close to 1000 OMNI posts, I post in a mature, contributing manner.

Sorry you feel that the moderating is unfair, but either accept it or leave.

From the TOS, the bolding is mine:

Personal attacks

We invite and encourage a healthy exchange of opinions. If you disagree with an opinion or idea expressed by another member, by all means, challenge the opinion or idea - not the person. Personal attacks on individuals, insults and "flaming" will not be tolerated and will be removed. You may challenge others' points of view and opinions, but do so respectfully and thoughtfully.

Do not retaliate or respond in any way to a personal attack that you perceive to be directed at yourself or another FlyerTalk member. All to often, when an initial attack is levied, others join the fray and instead of becoming part of the solution, they become part of the problem. If you feel that you have been the recipient of a personal attack, contact a TalkAssist volunteer immediately.
I believe that UALOneKPlus should have simply posted links to the examples of behavior in question, without the commentary (and I believe the commentary in question does indeed cross the border into the "personal attack" category). However, I know that

Wow, you are not only rude but mean too. How sad, did your father hit you when you were a child?
blows way past the line and is clear. Moreover, what (beyond IMHO, a immature one-liner and the last word) could you possibly hope to accomplish? Self defense is not justification on Flyertalk. So sayeth the TOS.

I believe that once this is all said and done, you will share my thinking that e-mailing Randy would have been a far more effective means to resolve the issues you have raised.

The usuall OMNI banter, person X is pi5sed at person Y, meanwhile the moderator gets blamed for being the moderator. In turn person Y is pi5sed at person X, and the moderator is all the more left out in the cold.

Instead of waiting for a response from Randy via personal e-mail, like usuall, someone brought it into the ORP forum. Either way... it seems like a monthly thing. It's too bad http://www.flyertalk.com/forum/frown.gif

Close, but I'd correct a few things. Someone crapped in Omni with a ton of highly controversial and baiting threads, and was asked repeated to stop. Despite our efforts, the poster continued to post at a hurried pace. Therefore the spotlight was shone upon the poster to prevent further deterioation of the forum.

Then during the ensuing discussion, another poster decided to join the fray and bash the moderators and other posters. That poster has been relentless in posting rather unpleasant things.

So as things stand now, we have put a stop to the charade that was going on in Omni.

We could be twins civicmom - I too have only received one warning for a personal attack, but it wasn't against goldlust, rather someone else who doesn't seem to like me.

The mods do a great job - let's support them and keep OMNI open.
