All of us have gotten the hint and I think the standard of OMNI postings will generally improve in tone -- at least for some limited time, until we next need a reminder. Goldlust is a fine contributor to OMNI. May I second the suggestion for moveon.org? (edited cause I can't spell) [This message has been edited by mymiles2go (edited Mar 15, 2004).] |
Today I ventured where I hardly ever go, to OMNI, and oh boy!
It appears that this issue arose because one poster started a whole bunch of threads around the same time, all espousing roughly the same political view. I hypothesize that if all the same comments had been placed in just one thread, there would not have been a concern. So how about imposing a moderate limit on the number of OMNI threads that one poster can start in, say, a day? There would be no limit on the number of posts, just on the number of threads started. OK, enough from me. Now I am returning to my usual mission in life: complaining about hotels! |

I was suspicious of Feldspar. I figured he had to be somebody from the Right (my own particular side of the political spectrum) who was purposely posting completely idiotic, supposedly "Leftist", letters in order to make the Left appear ridiculous.
After all, what else could explain completely unsubstantiated charges against Bush such as "Innocent Americans are already being held without charges, incommunicado. More have been liquidated"? Apparently Omni's Left was not as suspicious as I was. I thoroughly enjoyed their attempts to defend him and justify what he was saying. One even managed to drag up the (very sad) story of the internments of Japanese civilians during World War II in a thread that Feldspar started called, "GOP Concentration Camp -- Hell on Earth." It was a shame that he did not realize that Franklin Delano Roosevelt was a Democrat, not a Republican. He also should have paid attention to the fact that the driving force behind these internments was the then governor of California, Earl Warren. (Warren, of course, was later canonized by the Left when as Chief Justice, he led the most activist Supreme Court in the nation's history.) Feldspar, if you are a closet Republican troll, you have done an excellent job. If you are a Leftist, thank you for outing the silliness of your compatriots. ------------------ Sir Dovster, OBE (Omni Boycotter Extraordinaire) [This message has been edited by Dovster (edited Mar 15, 2004).] |
We miss you Dovster.. trust me on this one http://www.flyertalk.com/forum/smile.gif
PS, I hardly think that the OMNI mods are incompetent.. on what basis do you say that, Goldlust? [This message has been edited by civicmon (edited Mar 15, 2004).] |

I think you're probably right, Richard. Although the words Feldspar used were pretty radical as well, even though I *agreed* in principle with some of the ideas, it was very offensive as well.
If you read some of Feldspar's posts, you'll see that he/she used words that incite hatred, and not based upon any reasonable basis of discussion. That, along with the volume of the stuff, really drew my attention. You know I'm not a Bush lover by any means, but when someone claims that Bush killed over the people in Spain, etc etc, it really was cross the line. Immature and uncalled for, totally. I have no regrets about calling out the actions of the poster. It's amazing to me that two other immature posters tried to call me out on that and attacked me for trying to preserve the sanctity of Omni. We'll see what happens... <font face="Verdana, Arial, Helvetica, sans-serif" size="2">Originally posted by RichardInSF: Today I ventured where I hardly ever go, to OMNI, and oh boy! Oh, I get it - the "history of crime" you are citing is in fact ONE incident. If you read the posts it is clear I made a honest mistake back then.
