FAQ

When is [insert airline here] joining oneworld???
Which airlines are lined up to join?
See list below and
https://www.oneworld.com/member-airlines/overview
Another useful page for official announcements is: https://www.oneworld.com/news-information/oneworldnews

Current members elect (officially announced and currently aligning processes):

WY - Oman Air
Announced 20JUN22, with a target of '2024' - no indication yet when in 2024 this may be. https://www.oneworld.com/news/2022-0...-join-oneworld

Expected members:

FJ - Fiji Airways
Currently the only oneworld Connect member, FJ stated 28FEB24 that they would like to seek full membership and would apply in Q3 2024.Full membership may still take until 2025/2026. #1489 and https://onemileatatime.com/news/fiji-airways-oneworld/

EI - Aer Lingus
EI's new owners, IAG (owners of existing members BA+IB), stated before acquisition that they fully intended EI to rejoin, and have restated the intention since completing the purchase. EI has not yet been publically 'invited' by oneworld but should join eventually. When? When it's announced... When will EI become a full member of Oneworld?

Well, that's what the discussion below is all about! Heard a rumour? Think oneworld should chase a particular airline to join or switch? Make your case!

They’re taking delivery of new 787s, which I believe they plan to use to replace the 767 to Germany and to fly to the US. Not sure what the business configuration is, but I would think the seats they have on the 767 are long discontinued by the manufacturer.
EDIT: according to One Mile At a Time this is the new MIAT 787 business:

Looks like the same seat AA flies on 789s and some 788s and 772s. Quite an upgrade from their 767!

They've said it will be once they have their 787 and have already taken delivery of one so I'd guess relatively soon.

Those seats look good. It'd be an interesting airline to try with decent seats. Would love to spend a day or two in Ulaanbaatar.

What is the likely timescale? We are planning a RTW and would be great to fly directly to Kigali...

There's been nothing announced yet, so even if they announce tomorrow it'd be at least a year, likely 2 to integrate. Granted I think a lot of their systems are already aligned with QR, so maybe they can pull it off a little faster, but wouldn't count on it.

The way I am doing KGL on my current ticket is flying into NBO, then I used a QR Avios award, it's only 12,500 for business class, then I'm going on a gorilla trekking safari anyway, so am using that to get from Kigali to Kampala as part of the tour package. Then flying out of EBB. Not as great as being able to fly to KGL directly, but at least the awards on WB are super cheap with QR Avios. Would be the same price to / from EBB.

I had not thought of going via NBO, connection timings are much better and save us waiting for hours in Doha, thanks for this!

Alaska to acquire Hawaiian, which will join oneworld

Proposal, likely to receive federal regulator scrutiny.

Key oneworld points from the proposed acquisition website:

Will the expanded company’s network or alliances be impacted?
Together and through the oneworld Alliance, the expanded company’s networks will provide passengers combined access to over 1,200 destinations, including non-stop service to 29 top international destinations in the Americas, Asia, Australia and the South Pacific.

Will the companies offer a joint loyalty program or credit card?
The transaction will connect Hawaiian Airlines’ loyalty members with enhanced benefits through an industry-leading loyalty program for the combined airline, including the ability to earn and redeem miles on 29 global partners and receive elite benefits on the full complement of oneworld Alliance airlines, expanded global lounge access and benefits of the combined program’s co-brand credit card.

Very Interesting. So 2 brands, but HA becomes a OW member. Not that I'm complaining at all, but does it require OW approval for membership? IAG is the umbrella, but EI is not a member., where as BA and IB are. I guess there is a difference since this will be a merger, not under a formal holding company.

If approved this will hugely expand Oneworld's presence in the South Pacific - Tahiti, Cook Islands, American Samoa, Guam...
