FAQ

When is [insert airline here] joining oneworld???
Which airlines are lined up to join?
See list below and
https://www.oneworld.com/member-airlines/overview
Another useful page for official announcements is: https://www.oneworld.com/news-information/oneworldnews

Current members elect (officially announced and currently aligning processes):

WY - Oman Air
Announced 20JUN22, with a target of '2024' - no indication yet when in 2024 this may be. https://www.oneworld.com/news/2022-0...-join-oneworld

Expected members:

FJ - Fiji Airways
Currently the only oneworld Connect member, FJ stated 28FEB24 that they would like to seek full membership and would apply in Q3 2024.Full membership may still take until 2025/2026. #1489 and https://onemileatatime.com/news/fiji-airways-oneworld/

EI - Aer Lingus
EI's new owners, IAG (owners of existing members BA+IB), stated before acquisition that they fully intended EI to rejoin, and have restated the intention since completing the purchase. EI has not yet been publically 'invited' by oneworld but should join eventually. When? When it's announced... When will EI become a full member of Oneworld?

oneworld in membership talks with "several airlines"
The alliance chairman says there’s always more room at the Oneworld table, beginning with Oman Air.

There is no chance of that happening. ITA is looking to join Skyteam temporarily with a no-penalty clause for when it will be absorbed by Lufthansa and will join Star Alliance. It cannot spend any money on joining Oneworld.

According to this interview with Oman Air's CEO, Oman Air "is in the process to become a member of the global Oneworld Alliance and hopes to reach that goal by the end of 2022."

Seems very ambitious, particularly since a formal invitation hasn't been sent out by oneworld, nor has an official application been made by WY.

I agree the timeline is tight, but how do we know WY has not made an official application?

Several commenters to the linked article refer to Philippine Airlines (PR), after it emerges from bankruptcy.

Despite concerns about service quality not being up to par with alliance standards, for those who often travel to the Philippines, this would be a great earning and redemption opportunity.

Not a peep. EI are due to join the AA/BA/IB/AY joint business at some point, maybe when that's announced? (only a guess)

Given the state of CX, I can’t imagine them being too happy if PR were to join. At best, I could see PR joining as a connect member instead…

I wouldn't bet much that depends on CX continuing their tradition of existence.

S7 logo no longer on the bottom of the OW home page. Nor listed in the "check your tier by airline" drop down menu.
But no news announcement
https://www.oneworld.com/

https://www.oneworld.com/members
Advisory: oneworld and S7 Airlines have agreed to a suspension of S7 Airlines' membership in the alliance effective 19 April 2022, until further notice.

Looks like another problematic situation in Latin America.

GOL and Avianca have announced a merger.
https://www.reuters.com/business/aer...up-2022-05-11/

AA has been getting close to GOL since LATAM left and invested $200m just months ago, but Avianca is close to United.

I always thought both Avianca and Copa together in *A didn't make too much sense. I suspect one of them will probably defect to OW at some point. Avianca does have a relationship with IB, so that may be some influence. https://www.iberia.com/us/iberiaplus...ights/avianca/

Oman Air will join the #oneworldalliance, further strengthening the premier #airline alliance’s leading position in the #MiddleEast.
Oman Air’s entry into #oneworld will provide even more flight options and benefits for customers planning global travel across the alliance’s members.
The national carrier of the Sultanate of Oman serves 41 destinations in more than 20 territories.

Oman Air To Join oneworld | oneworld

Not sure it will bring much to AY in terms of connections, but always good to have more opportunities in earning/redeeming points.

One clear benefit will be access to their lounge in BKK. Used it for the shower when the AY Diners Club card still existed.
