FAQ

When is [insert airline here] joining oneworld???
Which airlines are lined up to join?
See list below and
https://www.oneworld.com/member-airlines/overview
Another useful page for official announcements is: https://www.oneworld.com/news-information/oneworldnews

Current members elect (officially announced and currently aligning processes):

WY - Oman Air
Announced 20JUN22, with a target of '2024' - no indication yet when in 2024 this may be. https://www.oneworld.com/news/2022-0...-join-oneworld

Expected members:

FJ - Fiji Airways
Currently the only oneworld Connect member, FJ stated 28FEB24 that they would like to seek full membership and would apply in Q3 2024.Full membership may still take until 2025/2026. #1489 and https://onemileatatime.com/news/fiji-airways-oneworld/

EI - Aer Lingus
EI's new owners, IAG (owners of existing members BA+IB), stated before acquisition that they fully intended EI to rejoin, and have restated the intention since completing the purchase. EI has not yet been publically 'invited' by oneworld but should join eventually. When? When it's announced... When will EI become a full member of Oneworld?

Interjet - 4O - Oneworld?

Just had some extra time so I uncovered this not-so-recent news. But according to the report they plan to join OW by next year. It would be interesting to see how they evolve, if they ever do, into AB-ish.

Maybe Mod could relocate this thread to the oneworld forum for greater discussion. Thanks.

There's definitely some aspirational talk about this in the Mexican media on behalf of Interjet.

May 21, 2015: http://www.jornada.unam.mx/2015/05/21/economia/027n3eco

Marketing Director Andrés Martínez Reynoso detailed Interjet already codeshares with AA, BA, IB (as of June) and LA, and also in June would expand flight operations to Colombia, Guatemala and Costa Rica.

My rellies fly Interjet a lot and praise it's roominess and on time performance.

I was gutted when Mexicana went bust but now if Interjet finally joins OW I'd be more than happy to let go of Aeromexico.

Hainan is pretty much the largest non-affiliated carrier in China at this point and it would be good to have.

I'd also love to see WestJet, Interjet, or Air Tahiti Nui but I think those are less important.

Aer Lingus will obviously be joining in the near future, probably along with Vueling.
I don't think Vueling will join it is based on an LCC model (point to point travel and all extras paid for) which I don't think will fit too well with OW. Vueling does not need to join as most of it's routes are codes shares with BA and/or IB.

LAN/ INTERJET codeshare...

As I had mentioned some months ago....
'Airline Route' reported today that LAN airlines ( including LAN Peru ) starting
25OCT15 will begin codeshare partnership with INTERJET...
Since LAN is OW Partner, this opens interesting possibilities for those
Traveling to/intra Mexico...
I have flown INTERJET and found it to be a pleasant experience, free drinks ( mixed ! ) encluded ....

Qatar Air Mulling Royal Air Maroc Stake to Aid West Africa Push

Quote
The No. 2 Persian Gulf airline has already secured a code-share deal with RAM and would like to bring it into the Oneworld alliance in the "not too distant future," Chief Executive Officer Akbar Al Baker said Thursday.

So if Al Baker is lining up new OW members, he's probably over the U.S. carrier push about unfair competitive advantage to M.E. carriers and plans to stick with OW.

Of the possible OW candidates listed in the last pages, the contribution of Royal Air Maroc to cover OW white spots of Africa should not be an underestimated asset.

Considering that AA, UA, DL are all ganging up on ME3, any alliance is as good as any other.

Yes, I'll be happy to see RAM In OW.

Royal Air Maroc would cover spots of Africa that are hard to reach even with Star Alliance (for Americans, at least). Even though ET and SA cover a bunch of destinations in West and Central Africa, it can be logistically difficult and exhausting to fly all the way to JNB or ADD and double back.

I'm not familiar with RAM... interesting to see that they are a 4-star airline with Skytrax, but get a 3/10 from Skytrax users.

With AS strengthening their ties to EK, I don't think they're thinking about OW in the near future, which may boost WS's chances if they were to go for it.

Now that OW's proclivity for letting only carriers with a proper F class has waned (look at the downsizing of F cabins on all the first-tier members), this should open up more carriers looking to forge ahead with membership. Or perhaps OW should start actively poaching ST and *A members.
