When is [insert airline here] joining oneworld???
Which airlines are lined up to join?
See list below and https://www.oneworld.com/member-airlines/overview
Another useful page for official announcements is: https://www.oneworld.com/news-information/oneworldnews
Current members elect (officially announced and currently aligning processes):
WY - Oman Air
Announced 20JUN22, with a target of '2024' - no indication yet when in 2024 this may be. https://www.oneworld.com/news/2022-0...-join-oneworld
Expected members:
FJ - Fiji Airways
Currently the only oneworld Connect member, FJ stated 28FEB24 that they would like to seek full membership and would apply in Q3 2024.Full membership may still take until 2025/2026. #1489 and https://onemileatatime.com/news/fiji-airways-oneworld/
EI - Aer Lingus
EI's new owners, IAG (owners of existing members BA+IB), stated before acquisition that they fully intended EI to rejoin, and have restated the intention since completing the purchase. EI has not yet been publically 'invited' by oneworld but should join eventually. When? When it's announced... When will EI become a full member of Oneworld?

And Qatar India looks more promising

We all know AAB is full of bombastic bull at times. QR is massively short of planes itself that the 100 jet plans for QR India sounds ridiculous.
But, either way, having a Qatar-funded Indian carrier or Vistara would make me a happy camper.

With QR being given the green light by the EU to purchase a 49% stake in Meridiana let's hope they join. They won't immediately add much to the alliance, but with Alitalia in such a precarious situation, Meridiana could potentially grow?

EY is not OneWorld. But I don't see QR leaving, even given the public commentary from Doug Parker@AA - I mean QR is looking to buy 10% of AA now; maybe more later.

I agree. QR doesn't care what AA says or does: AA is on the other side of the world. Dropping some codeshares will have almost no impact. QR joined oneworld because it was a profitable idea. They won't leave unless it becomes more expensive than the additional traffic it brings them.

Not only is EY not a member of OneWorld, it is canceling its (non-alliance) partnership with AA and increasing its cooperation with DL. So, speculation of course, likely to join SkyTeam.

AA is considering taking a minority interest in China Southern, looking for codeshare opportunities.

I'm not holding my breath; I'd imagine CX would have something pithy to say about it.

The alliance situation with China Southern, China Eastern and Cathay is a big mess that needs sorting out at some point
China Eastern was the last of the Chinese big three to join an alliance, was leaning towards oneworld but ended up in Skyteam and now has Delta as a shareholder
China Southern has been in Skyteam for a while, now has American as a shareholder
Cathay has been in Oneworld for a while, but doesn't have a deep relationship with other members and has Air China as a major shareholder

CX doesn't offer cheap interline feed to its oneworld partners on purpose: access to China is its biggest advantage and there's no reason to give that away.
I think alliances are just going to get messier in future. Commercial realities don't always sit well with the idealism of dividing the world into three parts.

And when BA had the chance to choose between CZ or MU for their domestic connection, they chose MU over CZ, which complicates this matter even further...
CX won't want that to happen, as then it will loses its position of being a connecting carrier between China and the rest of the world

Possibly a rehash of the Aviation Week article, but the SCMP is a pretty reputable source.

But either way the situation is messy
BA and QF are closer to MU, although QF does have CZ codeshares
AA closer to CZ
CX with new QR investment and existing CA cross-shareholdings
