Hey guyz... I wrote to MH. I told them that I need to know when they will join so that I can plan my itineraries... and this is what they said when they wrote back...

Dear Mr Betsy,

Thank you for your email dated 25 July 2012.

Please be informed that Malaysia Airlines embarks towards joining the prestigious oneworld alliance targeted for December 2012.

Thank you and have a pleasant day ahead.

Yours sincerely
for Malaysia Airlines,

I've tried to parse this wondrous sentence - I don't think it actually says anything at all

I think Sir Humphrey Appleby must have written it!

No. Its written by a non-native English speaker using fluffy words that they think means a lot.

Majority of the world is non-native english.

I think the sentence says something. They don't have a firm date yet. Also, describing it as a journey may indicate that there is a lot of bilateral agreements still to be made and the process may take sometime, even after the join date. This was the case for AB, IIRC.
Just my 2 cents.

December isn't too far ahead, lets hope they meet the requirements by then.

I love it when people talk posh when English isn't their first language, it always results in plenty of errors. :P

The language is not the best. But in fairness, it actually communicates what they want to convey, ie that they are joining with the emphasis on action, but without any commitment that would allow people to complain if it all goes wobbly at the last moment.

Hopefully it will be end December. The lounges at KUL have been reconfigured in anticipation of elite travellers using them and access to them modified in line with how it will work post joining. I heard a September date mentioned for an announcement, although we should all remember Kingfisher and Air India...
