Hmmm... this is getting weirder and weirder... At first I thought you could qualify for the bonus once per program, but maybe it's just once total?

what is the meaning of qualify once? only one program? if so, why have a maximum of 100k miles. i would much prefer 2 programs at 50k each.

I have a Oneworld RTW brochure in front of me (got it at the Toronto AA ticket office), and here are the "continents" as per the Oneworld RTW:

Zone 1: Europe and the Middle East, including Algeria, Egypt, Morocco, Sudan, and Tunisia

Zone 2: Africa

Zone 3: Asia, including the Indian subcontinent

Zone 4: Southwest Pacific, including Australia, New Zealand, and Papua New Guinea

Zone 5: North America, including Canada, United States, Caribbean, Mexico, and Central America

Zone 6: South America

Also included is a map of the world. The "African" countries listed above is clearly grouped in the Europe zone. Europe zone also includes Moscow (Western Russia), and Iran. It looks like Kazakstan, Afganistan and Pakistan are considered as Asia. East Timor is part of Asia.

hsi.chang -- For the purposes of this promotion, the continents are defined differently. Central America, for example, is considered part of South America for the bonus, but it is considered part of North America for the OneWorld Explorer fare.

WAIT UNTIL YOU HEAR THIS!! This PM, AA now says that a 24 hour stopover is NOT required for the one world bonus continent fare and that all that one needs to do is to STOP ON THE CONTINENT. Does anybody know what is going on?

If we can earn the 100K in only one program, I am going to be highly upset. My RTW is getting less and less profitable.

If 1w is limiting people to one promotion overall, how exactly will they be doing it? How would IB know that Joe Smith (IB #123) is the same Joe Smith (BA #456) who earned the bonus with BA?

I think I am about to change all of my FF addresses to completely different locations. That should fix them!!!

But since the RTW ticket would be linked together somehow on a computer, I am sure the 1W revenue protection unit would hunt me down.

This is what I have collected so far:


AA - a copy of the rules straight AA

QF - a copy of a newsletter (thanks to a FTer) that states several rules

BA - from a FTer, a reference from BA's website about the promo with very little about rules

CX - a page from their website that states several rules

LanChile - from a FT post, a copy of their newsletter that refers to the promo but doesn't state very much about rules

AY - from a FT post, a reference from their website that states AY is participating and that is about it.

AerLingus (AE?) - from a FT post, a reference that AE has issued a press release stating they are participating

Does anyone have anything from IB?


I checked everyone's website last weekend but things have apparently changed for most carriers since then. If anyone has any official rules or responses from OneWorld carriers regarding these promotions, please post them (as I know you would). I will recheck as many of the websites as I can tomorrow to see if any rules have been changed/added.

In the morning, I plan on emailing all the 1W airlines individually to hopefully get some official word on a few things.

1) Can this bonus be earned once in their program and once in another carrier's program, or can it be earned once in only a single program

2) Does a flight have to be, according to the fare rules of the ticket, an official stopover in a continent in order to qualify.

Some notes:

1. The definition of the Middle East changes from program to program. Oneworld can't seem to decide if it's in Asia or Europe.

2. The rules from Iberia include the dreaded booking-class clause. (i.e. if the flight doesn't earn miles, it doesn't qualify)

3. The Iberia rules state flat-out that if you stay for less than 24 hours, it doesn't count (i.e. flying AUS-IAH-LGW in one day won't qualify for North America as well as Europe). But my question is: If you credited AUS-IAH to Program A and IAH-LGW to Program B, would they qualify in their respective programs? Which is another way of saying: is the 24-hour rule based on what is posted to a specific program, or based on how the flights are ticketed?
