Some of the posts talk about no visa being required if transiting within 6 hours. According to http://www.worldtravelguide.net/sudan/passport-visa

"Visas for Sudan are required by all nationals referred to in the chart above, except transit passengers continuing there journey from Sudan within 24 hours."

Can anyone say for sure whether I need to get a visa beforehand. The London Embassy offers a Transit Visa for 1-7 days stay but I have no idea how long it takes to get it.
This is what Timatic has to say, though the requirement for the onward carrier to report the transit to immigration authorities might be problematic:

Review the earlier posts in the thread for others experiences. Are you transiting from one carrier to another? if trying a turnaround with the same carrier that probably does not meet the requirements.

I did review the earlier posts. Not sure there is a definitive view so far so wanted to hear from those who have done it. I am flying in on TK from IST and taking RJ to Amman.

Well, only two or three people have reported doing it. I think I'm leaning toward deepbluesky's approach of an airport entry permit through an in country agent:
http://www.flyertalk.com/forum/18338030-post160.html
Your approach should be legal and appears similar to what Tauphi did when he successfully completed a twov at KRT to start a done4, from UAE to Jordan:
http://www.flyertalk.com/forum/17446023-post91.html
kiwi flyer reported a unsatisfying attempt at a KRT transit in 2011:
http://www.flyertalk.com/forum/16582185-post31.html

And that's the sum total of the reported experiences, iirc.

Thanks Jerry. I have been in touch with Deepbluesky and he has been most helpful. I think as long as the departure and onward airports are different it should be OK. The other tip is not to check in luggage.

I finally booked an AONE3 ticket starting in KRT in March next year. I am Austrian so getting a visa for Sudan should not be a problem. Fingers crossed

As recommended in this very helpful (and looong) thread I had it priced via the AA RTW desk and then ticketed via Naeem. Total cost CAD 4500 (3432 base fare +1070 Taxes). Sweet.
As soon as I said "ticketing in Canada and start in KRT" the RTW desk lady said "you are from flyer talk, right?"
Also managed to get a price for a DONE4 itinerary (Eur-Asia-SEA-South America-Eur) without AA segments but Naeem was unable to claim it for some reason.
Will try to buy it from Iberia - for some reason Iberia is never mentioned in the RTW ticketing discussion. Has anyone ever successfully booked an RTW ticket from them?
I will keep you guys updated on the progress...!

update on Khartoum connection

FlyDubai have confirmed that all they need to see to board their flight is a printout of the electronic ticket.

In London it is very easy to get a Sudanese visa. A simple 1 page form off their website for a "transit visa" and 2 photos+55 pds.

I popped in today during their visa hours 9-12. The guy at the window couldnt understand why i was going to amman via khartoum. He said it looked very odd! I then showed him a printout from the planner tool showing all the places I am visiting. He asked me to come back at 1pm when the visa officer would decide. By 2 I
had my visa. It says valid for 2 mths upto 2 months single entry. They did want to know where I would stay and wrote than on the visa under sponsor!

You got a transit visa, right? What did you say for where you will stay? "Nowhere," "airport," "transit only?"

It sounds to me like a regular tourist visa.

On their London embassy website under the heading transit visa there is a link to a one page form. The info on the webpage says that a transit visa is good for 10 days. I assumed that i didnt need to complete stuff re sponors etc and none was asked for. Under purpose I just put "transit"
But my actual visa is valid for two months rather than ten days.

Re staying - before returning at 1 I googled and found sensible reviews for Bougainvilla guest house. So i said I planned to stay there if they had space. Having gone to the trouble of getting a visa i want to spend a day or maybe two there rather than just transit to Amman. The other thing is that I might as well have the option of staying there a couple of days given I psid 55 pds for the visa. I didnt want them telling me I didnt need a visa etc given some of the concerns people have expressed.

They were actually very friendly and a far cry from the jobsworths that often inhabit embassies. I have been to some in my time!

Hello Andreiz:
Just wondering if you got any resolution to this pricing problem?
I am having the same problem with pricing a DONE4 which should be US$3330 ex-KRT according to EF, but the OW online tool is quoting US$8457 + taxes.
I have emailed OW support but no reply so far.

Happy Travels.

I understand your frustration but that sounds like the quickest way to get fares ex-KRT reviewed by OW.
