I hit 80k EQM's this past year. I will probably make it to 90K EQM's this year. The gift of a Silver Elite membership is a nice little perk.

What is BOS-NRT in NWA V class?

Something like $900 (but a lot more expensive in summer).

Lowest coach fare on NW, DTW-DEL for a date I'm traveling this summer- 1773.20

Z fare- not available

C fare- 7180

money saved- 5406

DTW-NRT flight I have booked

lowest coach fare (direct flight) - 1260

Lowest Z fare- not available

lowest C fare- 8950

money saved- $7700

total money I would have saved- $13000

I did my math correctly.

A. you dont have any swu's:) B. NWs IM is notorious stingy. When you get some swu's dont be surprised if NW wont let you use them to take a seat from a paying $7000 pax.

And NWs UGable B fare for april was $3100 plus 60k miles. I think I'll take the $900 + swu and sit in the C section :D

Thank you for choosing Northwest Airlines. Although you did not reach our published qualification thresholds for the Silver Elite tier, your travel in 2006 made you one of our top customers. As such, we would like to present you with Silver Elite status for the 2007 program year, which runs March 1, 2007 through February 29, 2008. Travel 25,000 Elite Qualifying Miles or 30 Elite Qualifying Segments between January 1 and December 31, 2007 to ensure retention of your Silver Elite status for 2008.

I was hoping for that letter, was plat two years ago and shifted miles to CO. I flew enough NW miles to mkae gold, I believe, but had it all in Onepass. I was hoping they would notice that and give me a silver, not that it does anything for me.

At the 120k level, why are 2 Hawaii one way upgrades listed a a bullet along with 2 SWU's? Who would take the Hawaii only and not the SWU's????????

NW BOS-NRT in J $8,000
UA BOS-NRT in F $13,000

Anyone who would pay $8K, let alone $13K for a single roundtrip doesn't give a darn about any of this miles and SWU stuff.

(that said, i agree with you about the membership giveaway perk for this promo. good for them. hopefully not crappy for us. although my guess is more folks would take the SWUs. that seems to be what everyone's talking about.)

Sounds that NW should think about a Tin (or something else), similar to UA's 3P. It's great that you have to earn Plat, but if you're gifting Elite, let's start with a sub-Silver. Also, I'd gift Elite before taking SWUs... the total benefit of Elite (in my perception) is greater then the one-time use of a SWU. But I'm still not finished with the thoughts on this one, so I might change my mind.

So I fly for work on J fares, but when on vacation it is great to be able to buy a cheap fare and upgrade.

Remember virtually no one pays for J fares from their pocket. Folks buy Z fares from their pocket, or they buy F fares, but a J fare??? - unless it was the only non stop.

I actually think NWA are VERY SMART making the SWU apply to any fare. THis encourages folks to use for personnal travel and therefore not impact NWA revenue very much. If it was only for Y fares then folks woulld buy Y fares for a BIz trip

You better change your mind, Steve.

UA's 3P has real benefits of E+.

NW's Tin would give you what? Pre-boarding? :D :D

Maybe someone really wants to go to Hawaii? Maybe someone never travels internationally?

The SWUs book into C class, and there is no C class going to Hawaii, only F. Hence, if you wanted the upgrade on Hawaii flights, you'd have to go for the Hawaii upgrades.

Thats what I read into it. SWU = Systemwide were WBC exist.

I'm still laughing. Tin. It would certainly improve the collective self-esteem of Silvers. Give us people to feel bad for...:D

in a platinum's shoes, though, i'd probably choose the silver gift too. it's like getting to play santa, without the suit, or kids peeing on you...

I think V and Q were the old normal low fare buckets for Europe/Asia, but on my flight to SIN tonight (I'll get there Sunday morning), it's all in K class!
