ua's and nw's 757 fc is about the same. UA gives 1k's a dozen free drink chits a year. (I still have a half dozen left) so my drinks are free on TED and they have snacks too. whoopee I'm also not washing TED away either. If I fly on ted it's a choice or option. nothing more nothing less

Actually to say Ted planes are large RJs is not totally accurate.

Ted 320s have Economy Plus and elites get 5 extra inch legroom. This is a significant advantage compared to NW RJs.

Even if you compare NW mainline 757s, 320s, DC9s, coach seats on these planes (except exit row) all have less legroom than E+ seats on Ted 320s or UA 737s, 757s, 767s, 319/320s.

Therefore, I would say that NW cannot compare to UA in this regard. :td:

Of course NW Plats probably sit in FC most of time, but so do UA 1Ks. So that evens out.

Still, I would rate both carriers' FC somewhat similar with a slight advantage to UA due to Channel 9 and int'l 777s on some domestic routes which have very nice C seats and 55" pitch if you get upgraded.

OTOH, NW Silvers probably don't get UG'd much. They are at a distinct disadvantage since UA 2Ps and 3Ps almost always have E+ seats, sometime with luck even middle seats are blocked. ^

In the end, perhaps only NW Golds are better off than UA 1Ps, although UA 1Ps have access to *A lounges on int'l travel.

Yep, NW does very well selling its WBC seats to Asia. On all my flights to Asia, I have yet to see an empty seat TPAC.

And the sole TATL flight I took was filled in C, and had people sleeping across the middle aisle in Y. I'm sure someone knows the percentages of paid, upgraded, op-upped, and non-rev, but NW C isn't hurting for BIS pax.

I got lost about why we're comparing 320s to RJs when both Ted and NW fly 320s... oh, wait, is it that somebody wanted to compare single-class planes? I realize it wouldn't be fair to compare even NW's rather mundane domestic F to economy, even E+.

Out of curiosity, are you saying this based on experience, or is this just a WAG? 'Cos in my experience as a NW SE from Hawaii, I flew 9 segments on NW between April and December before making GE, and the only NW segment on which I wasn't upgraded was SEA-KOA on a 753 immediately after making SE, before my elite packet came. Other than that, I was in domestic F for 7 and (DC10) WBC for 1.

For coach seats except exit rows, UA E+ beats NW Y hands down.

I don't see any point to compare F with Y.

After being NW Silver, Gold, and Plat for number of years, my experience has been that SE don't get UG much, possibly less than 50/50 at best. Your 8/9 record is incredible.

On some routes such as SEA/LAX/SFO-DTW, even Plats are reporting upgrade difficulty, let alone Silvers.

Guess I'm just lucky. ;) I did KOA-SEA and back, HNL-IAH-MEX and back (on CO), and KOA-SEA-MSP-JFK as a base member, made SE, then LGA-MSP-SEA-KOA (no upgrade on the Hawaii leg, but I was in an exit row), and KOA-SEA-MSP-EWR-MSP-HNL (resident certs, but there still had to be availability for those) as a SE. As a GE I did HNL-MSP-PHL-MSP-HNL, resident cert on the way out, but there was no availability MSP-HNL on the way back and the GA at PHL refused to take my cert, saying I'd have gotten EUA'ed PHL-MSP anyway. Now I'm a plat, and have done my 3 scheduled domestic segments for the first half of the year (1 inter-island RT on Hawaiian, and a KOA-ORD on UA) so I don't know whether I'll be reporting any domestic upgrade successes for a while!

Did anyone see any rules as to when you have to be registered by? I.e I will hit gold/plat in march, but that's beyond the start of the 2007 year..


And the SWU's appear to be non-transferable from the terms; i.e. you can't book it for family without being on the same ticket...

I'm 99% sure you can register once your gold/plat status posts.

I was silver for quite a few years on NW my ug's on a 4 seg trip were about 1 out of 4. If I got 2 out of 4 I felt lucky. When I made gold, 1 year, I averaged 2/4 not bad. When my kids (finally left home :rolleyes: ) We made Plat and were 100% ^ I think this is about average and Dan is a lucky puppy :)

Has this question been fully resolved? NW TTU declined to answer 2 queries on this point.

The 2500 bonus miles at 60K are explicitly stated to be EQM's. The 10000 bonus miles at 90K are not explicitly called EQM's. Anyone know for sure?

Finally, do the bonus EQM's count towards qualification for the next level? That is, if I reach 90K and select the 10,000 bonus miles, hopefully EQM's, am I now only 20,000 away from the 120K level with its system wide upgrades?

Yes, you can take one selection per level. For example, "2 One-Way Confirmed System-Wide Upgrades" shows up on both the 120,000 and 160,000 level. Would only make sense if you can do one per level.

I'm pretty sure that the 10,000 miles aren't EQM ("bonus miles" never are). Note that the 2500 EQM are just that--elite qualifying miles, not redeemable. Meaning that they are only useful for getting to 75k (PE) or 90K/120K/160K (eliteextraperks). You can't redeem them for flights.
