It is a start. For me however, 120k is going to be a little tough to get to.....

N751PR Jan 25, 2007 9:52 am

FINALLY!!! It's great to see some SWUs!!! :D ^

I guess you have to weigh the cost of 85k EQMs vs just buying a couple of Z fares. OTOH if you fly that much anyway its a good perk. Remember also, this isnt a CHANGE to the WPs program. Its a promo.

You pegged it. It is easier for me to love this because I HAVE to travel that much anyway....still I am Excited. :):)

Has Platnium points been around for a while? I agree its outside of the "program" but if they keep it around I am good with whatever they call it!

Any additions with no subtractions is a win.

Now Hilton on the other hand....(charged $20.00 Euro's for an upgrade at the Hilton Schipol last week :(:(:( and did not realize it till this am)

PaulMSN Jan 25, 2007 10:20 am

Having barely made Plat for the first time, I'm only likely to make the 60K tier, but I'm glad the SWU gate has been opened for others. Now I wish I had booked a ton of YYZ-OTP flights this year.

thezipper Jan 25, 2007 10:25 am

Who says there won't be anymore glitches this year... at least now you'll be thinking more along the lines of "book it... book it... SWU's!!" vs. "well do I really want to fly that much"

Keep in mind, registration is required for particpation in Elite ExtraPerks. Don't forget to register if you're Gold or Platinum.

Asia Gold only, correct? I'm seeing this equating to SkyTeam Elite+.

Question: do you get to select one award from the 60k level when you reach 60k, another award from the 90k level when you reach 90k, yet another award now from the 120k level when you reach 120k, etc.?

If so, :D ^ ^

I'm reading this as yes. Fly 120k EQM, and gift Silver and Gold...

In addition to the product being superior, these will also be easier to use than UA SWUs. Any paid fare into C class -- very nice.

Just wish the last tier was 150K instead of 160K; might have to do a mileage run to hit it.

Well, I suspect it's not coming out of the C-bucket, but the I-bucket or Z-bucket. And you know how easy it is to turn off that valve...

Thank you Worldperks!

RC

Absolutely! And thank you, both! It's a minor miracle (spoken from the perspecitve of a consumer) that this happened. I'm have zero complaints that it happened... I'd just wish for a few tweaks (get full list not choice, minor tweaks regarding redemption and reward thresholds, etc), and I can wait until '08 for those. '07 was a freakin' paradigm shift... and appreciated! :)

Is there anything of real value at the 1st tier? Don't get me wrong I'm NOT complaining. I love it overall and may add MR to hit the 90k threshold. But the 1 level I will hit - I don't want anything on that list. I wonder how many SWUs are going to start showing up on ebay?? Very sad - all the threads to come on "is it safe to buy them" or "nwa closed my account for selling SWUs"

Yes, the 2500 EQM. Just figure what it would cost for an itinerary that would net 2500 EQM, and that's a measurable value.

I wonder why people didn't say that earlier..

It is a promotion, like UA's Elite Choice of 2006, not a change to the WP program.

Also, you need to be Plat/Gold for 2007 in order to participate.

This might be a promo, but just imagine that the Elite uprising from NW removing this promo would make the CoachChoice uprising seem like crickets chirping.

Can we actually agree, that for once, "exciting" is the correct word for this promotion? :)

Any chance (and I hate to give them ideas if they haven't thought of it already!) that NWA will throw some language in to say that the 2500 EQM's DONT count for EQM's towards the next award tier? I think it would be a little confusing for them to implement, but I wouldn't doubt it. ;)

I think it's a great deal overall. I think it will push me to pull the trigger on some more MR's. Heck, I've already calculated how many FNT-FRA runs I can do at $430 just by using my tax return. :D

Incorrect.

Online registration is required. Only 2007 Gold and Platinum Elite members may register for this promotion.

The real question, is whether RC will be getting 2 SWUs or 4 SWUs on March 1st. :)

bhatnasx Jan 25, 2007 11:01 am

I like the new choices - much more of an incentive to stick around on NW after I fly my 75K instead of switching over to UA to the other 50K on them. This program, if run successfully, will definitely make me more loyal to NW. Still, 120K for 2 SWU's is still not as good as UA's option of 6 (easily redeemable) SWU's for 100K - the bright side though, is that they're redeemable on anyfare. I would have liked to have seen the option of at least 1 SWU at the 90K mark...

Jaimito Cartero Jan 25, 2007 11:02 am

Or perhaps an all in one reward, save up all your levels, and get a shiny, slightly used DC9. Delivery not included.

When is the first 787 flight on NW? :D

That and the fact that they couldnt even throw a tiny tiny tiny bone to us lowly Silver's.

And I agree - I am never sure if I envy flyers that do 120K and up per year, or just glad that I do not spend that much time away from my family. As a GE that struggles to get 50K each year I can only say that I am glad for the SWU's for the people that travel internationally - you deserve it! I fly almost only on business, and all domestically, so for me, the chance of UG's and the free flights I get are gravy are a wonderful freebie. I think it is "exciting" :D
that you PE's are finally going to get an incentive to stay with NW after you reach that threshold!
Also thanks to RC and theZipper, I am sure without you NW would have happily stayed at status quo!

I can see why NW would want to keep the SWUs so hard to earn, given how valuable they are. Book a V-fare ticket into C-class... cool! :)

I'm thinking more a K>C (but no Sunshine Band).

I guess I will think seriously about changing my flying to Northwest for my india flights now. 4 business class tickets and four B class tickets should put me up at that 120,000 mile mark. Still, it will be a bitter pill to swallow to change from WT+ to coach for those four flights. I guess I should think about consolidating my travel to all NW for international from:

NW- Domestic, AMS travel, Asia Travel
CO- EWR travel
United- travel to and from Colorado
Lufthansa- DTW-FRA, DTW-DEL
American- LHR-DEL
British- DTW-LHR

Right now I'm only getting effectively .5 miles on DTW-LHR-DEL... something to think about.

This doesn't have to do with worldperks, but one thing would get me on NW for all my flights- nonstop DTW-DEL service... the number of annual miles I would obtain from that is unbelievable.
