Flew into OGG today. ES had mostly small and midsize SUVs (Ford Escape, Jeep Liberty) and a Grand Marquis. EA had a Santa Fe, Chrysler 200, 2010 Charger, a Grand Marquis, and an Impala. Premium/Luxury had a Genesis, a couple DTSs, and an STS.

The staff there is great; I had a premium reservation, but had a last minute need to carry 6 people. They guided me to a 2012 Enclave with 8 miles on it. Perfect.

I'm going to assume that you spoke with one of their Emerald Club Service Specialists. I've met two of them so far (I think they only have two right now...), and they're pretty accommodating. I usually deal with the guy...I think his name is Cory or Cody, something like that. I really should remember his name, since he remembers mine (and what I like to drive too!). He seems pretty reasonable, and has helped me out of some binds when I needed to transport more people than I had anticipated. I just ask and explain, and he's been more than willing to get me something I've needed.

Yup, he greets me by name and knows what I like to drive too. I don't think I've rented enough to get that level of recognition. Whether it's memory or great preparation, the level of service is awesome.

Dropped off the Enclave on Sunday... lot was relatively empty.

ES had a couple of Liberty SUVs, a 4dr Nissan Titan pickup, a rather plain Malibu LT, a Santa Fe, and a Nissan Rogue.

EA had a Rogue, Forrester, and a Grand Marquis.

There was a 2011 Explorer Limited and an Enclave in the premium SUV section, and a CTS and DTS in Luxury. I also saw a Genesis in the back.

Any Wranglers here?

I have a reservation for a convertible at OGG in January. I really wanted a Wrangler, but can't select 'Jeep' on the web site even though it is offered. I called reservations, and they said to keep the convertible reservation as that would be good for a convertible Wrangler and they were readily available at OGG.

I have not seen anyone mention Wranglers though - is availability really good?

I think there may have been a couple of Wranglers when I picked up last week (when the lot was full). Sorry; just didn't notice since I was focused on my options on ES/EA and Premium/Luxury.

I got back today after spending a few days with some friends. My friend and I are both Emerald Executive but rented from the regular Emerald Aisle: Subaru Impreza and Hyundai Sonata. Other cars on the lot in addition to the aforementioned were a Chrysler (200?) convertible and Ford Mustang.

Picked up a 1-day rental from the very friendly and helpful Aisle staff, especially Cory who greets me by name and goes out of his way to help me find something interesting to drive.

ES had:
- 2011 Charger
- Various small SUVs (Escape, Santa Fe)
- Grand Marquis
- Altima

EA had:
- 2x Impala LTs
- Sonata
- Forrester
- Avenger

I had a Premium reservation and was offered a couple of 2011 300s, a Challenger, a 2011 Maxima S, or an SUV. I decided to try a 2012 Durango Crew (FRAR) with just 6 miles on the odometer; I've posted a short review in a separate thread.

Also, I noticed that they try to keep the better/newer cars on EA and ES -- there were a bunch of 2010 Chargers in the regular full size section, while the 2011 models (a white one when I picked up and a grey one when I returned) were parked on ES.

Talking

Took a quick trip today to Maui today.

ES had:
- 2011 Charger
- Impala
- Dodge Ram (...never realized how BIG trucks are getting now)
- Grand Cherokee
- Hyundai Genesis (I love this car)
- Various small SUVs (CX-7, Escape, Santa Fe, etc...)
- Minivan

EA had:
- Dodge Avenger
- Forester
- Jeep Patriot
- Sonata
- Subaru Impreza
- Chrysler 200
- Malubu

Sadly (or luckily?), Cory apparently won't be doing much greeting outside anymore. Saw him today, and he wasn't wearing the normal green shirt. He said that he got promoted to station manager, so he'll have to run around everywhere...or be stuck in the office (his words, not mine). He also mentioned that for the time being, a guy named "Eric" would be the main one outside helping customers in the lot. He had nothing but praise for Eric though, and said that he was probably more friendly than himself! I think I'll have to be the judge of that!

1st time disappointment at OGG

We have rented exclusively from National (Emerald Exec) at OGG, always drive away with a nice convertible. This trip there were several on the lot, but was told they were not available to executive elites. Not only were we told we couldn't have one, we were told (by Jen) there has never been a convertible on the Exec Elite aisle, she needs to look up our past 12 rentals. I miss Mike and Brandon, they always took care of us. Very disappointed

Was on Maui for work for a couple hours yesterday.

ES had
- Buick Regal
- Chevy Impala
- Grand Cherokee
- Nissan Maxima
- the normal mix of small suvs (escape, liberty, patriot, etc..)
...and they had a few stalls coned off...I was told it was due to falling coconuts...haha

EA had
- Chevy Malibu
- Hyundai Sonata
- Dodge Avenger
- Subaru Forester
- Subaru Impreza
- Minivan
...and I couple other things I don't remember.

I go to OGG quite a bit...and I've honestly seen a convertible on the executive selection maybe once or twice in the past year...usually in the afternoon or early in the morning when the lot looks empty. I wouldn't expect there to be a convertible sitting on the ES very often, since I'm sure the demand for convertibles in Hawaii is quite high. If I were you, I'd call ahead and speak to one of the managers there and see if they can hold a convertible for you. I've found that they're quite helpful if you give them a heads up...rather than just going there expecting anything and everything. Plus, if they're sold out...they're sold out. Wouldn't you get mad if you reserved a convertible, and didn't get one because one was given away for free to another executive? I'm sure I'd be quite upset.

I've benefited from OGG accomodating my last minute needs (e.g. having to transport 6 people, so getting a three-row SUV on my premium reservation), but I think the general National rule applies to all locations, even accomodating ones like OGG: always reserve the vehicle that you need. Anything that you receive above that is a bonus and should not be expected on a recurring basis.

I can also say that OGG is much more willing to entertain my asks than HNL.

Picked up at OGG this morning. If I thought it couldn't get worse than the sea of Malibus in HNL, I was greeted by my choice of Impalas on the Exec Aisle. All were 2012 models, most with less than 2K miles. There were a few with leather, a few with sunroofs (but oddly, not both).

The rest of the Exec Aisle was comprised of:

- a well worn Subaru Forrester (15K miles)
- a well worn Mazda CX-7 AWD Touring (16K miles, a hole in the rear bumper, and several impressive dents along the sides)
- a Lucerne

Emerald Aisle wasn't much better. More Impalas, another tired Forrester, and another high mileage CX-7.

I took the CX-7 from the EA since it had fewer dents and smelled slightly better. At least it had Bluetooth audio for my drive to Lahaina.

Has anybody looked to see if the other SUVs at OGG have low range 4x4? It would be nice to be able to drive something other than a Jeep Wrangler when I am on the island.
