Since United is a relatively easy comp you might be able to go from Air Canada to another carrier to United. Downside is that you won't have flight activity with that other carrier to show United... just a printout that shows your status and (if you wait long enough) an elite card. But there's a better shot of this working than of showing them your AC status.

UA does comp other *A. As I just went through the process, and did call everyday to "check" the status, I've landed on a very nice agent. Once I've told the story she said "but we don't comp from *A". I engaged her in a conversation trying to ask why exactly is that - is not that I'm going to get anything new (i.e., *G will get you exactly the same boarding zones and priorities on UA as 1P), just the miles will be deposited to another account (granted there are differences on how many miles you get in each program but that is not the point). To make a long story short she said, let me check something out, she pulled up the list of programs UA comp from, and low and behold LH was there. Needless to say I've got comped to 1P.

Any updates on CO, faxed my comp request in yesterday.. will let you guys know how it goes.

if you are spending significantly money, you might want to considering buy the 1K status for $20K. Basically you prepaid UA $20K, and have one-year to use the credit and you get your 1K status immediately.

My wife and I just applied for a status match with UA. We both are (and have been for a while) CP on US. I faxed them a cover letter and copies of our US accounts showing CP status for the last four years. Their response was to grant us EP, not 1K. Together, we fly over 250K miles per year. I guess that was not enough. Perhaps I should have sent a printout of dollars spent too.

Does anyone know if airlines will status match for promo elite status? I have the ability to upgd. to Silver until 2/27/07 on CO by paying $350 and, as I generally fly out of SEA, I called AS to see if I'd get priority boarding, seating, etc. While the CSR said no, she did say that they would do a status match for the remainder of the year if I sent in my elite card and OP statement (I didn't tell her that it was a promo upgd).

Now, I haven't flown at all on CO this year yet (thought I'd give B6 a try, but getting to JFK is such a pain and they only have a red-eye return to JFK), although I am going to do some MRs to try to maintain status (mostly shuttle between SEA and EWR and maybe SEA-SFO). My question, guys and gals, is do you think AS is likely to still offer me a status match seeing as I haven't flown at all this year (although I did fly nearly 15K miles on AS last year with only NSs) or would it be more prudent to wait towards the end of the year (which is peak travel for me) to do a SM and would that SM only apply to the end of 06 or would it be possible to get it close enough to the end of the year (or even wait for 1/07) for it to be for 07?

AS seems to be generous in terms of bending the rules a bit in my past experience, and I'd stand a better chance at getting MVP comp upgds on AS flights than I would on CO, but I don't know. I mean, even if they didn't SM me, I'd probably still wind up with enough ERMs for a free ticket on CO or a partner and then some, and actually be able to use it because of Elite status.

I posted something kind of similar in the OP board, but this is a slightly different question. Also, do you think that any other airlines, like UA or AA, would also be willing to do a status match? I know that few here actually need to pay for status, but I thought I'd throw it out there anyway.

Can we get a clarification on 1P, etc.? (UA status abbreviations)

Thanks!

UGS = United Global Services (lotsa $$$$ spent per year required)
1K = 100K Premier Executive (100K miles flown per year)
1P = Premier Executive (50K miles flown per year)
2P = Premier (25K miles flown per year)
3P = Premier Associate (gifted status from an elite member)

iris30 Apr 5, 2006 10:42 pm

After many years of being AA Gold, I recently completed the Platinum challenge so I faxed UA (yesterday) my AA statement and a short letter asking for a status match to Premier Executive. I just logged into UA and they upgraded my account per my request!!

Now I have to spend some time familiarizing myself with UA and what benefits come along with my new 1P status. My $136.00 flight from ATL - HNL (thanks FT!) is coming up in May and I’m hoping to be able to move up into an E+ seat.

And for those interested in useless trivia, I believe the reason these codes are used stems from an era when DB memory was expensive enough that you actually cared how many bytes each field used. That's why they used "1K" instead of the more logical "100K".

Then, the "1P" and "2P" were used somewhat in reverse of what you might expect so that when the status needed to be part of an order-by clause (say, as part of a sort to determine an upgrade waiting list), the code could be kept very simple. Sort ascending, 1K, 1P, 2P.

I wasn't aware of the 3P. I guess following the above logic, a "gifted" Premier comes after a "normal" Premier on waitlists (assuming they've reached a point where status is the tiebreaker). Makes sense...

Thought I should report that I was matched today SAS EBG (*G) to CO Gold. Turn around was about 2 hours from sending a fax of my card along with a quick letter.

AA doesn't generally do status matches. They give challenges where you have to fly a certain amount within 90 days to get status. DL seems to be doing a lot of the same as of late too.

Personally, I like AA's program much better than DL's.

If someone else were using AA/DL status as a basis for a status match with FlightFund/DividendMiles, I'd use my AA status to try to get HP/US status.

Status and MILES match

Does any AMERICAN airline match both the status and the miles?

I am holding more than one million miles with M&M but would be willing to switch the status and the miles to an American airline, e.g. Continental.

Any information on whether KLM will match UA?

Will be doing a lot of intra Europe travel in addition to the Europe / US, where I normally fly *alliance. I am a 1k on UA but end up flying a fair amount on KLM.

Air France - KLM do not (generally) match statuses. You could always try get a status match on Northwest then changing your address to Europe which will move your worldperks miles and status over to flying blue.

Is there any airline that would match my AA platinum status ? European Airline ?

Do you mean will they give you a status match and put 1,000,000 miles in your new account?

hahahahahahahahahahahahahaha!!!!!!

Best time for getting a status match?

When is actually the best time to get a status match ?

Let's assume one gets matched now: Is this only for the running year or also for the following?

SFOAmdam Apr 19, 2006 2:37 pm

If I have UA 1k and want status match on

KLM, I call Northwest and get a match then change my address to europe and it will convert into a KLM account? If not if I got status match on Northwest could I use it to get into the lounges for KLM if I was having the miles credited to KLM? I guess it does not matter either way, but just trying to think it through.

Just got UA Status Matched

Thanks for the thread! I faxed my letter to UA, along with my US Airways statement, and got elite status!

Yes just send an email to the diamond club email. They'll tell you what to do afterwards.

If they comp you to Gold and you get it transferred to flying blue then yes. If it stays as WP then no.

If they comp you to Platinum then both WP and FB will give you lounge access.

Beware though that FB gold and platinum give you lounge access on NW even if flying domestic which is not the case with a straight WP gold card.

I would like similar information about American. What is the best way to reach them to ask for a status match?

Quick question for anybody who has done a recent status match to United, how long does it take if you faxed your statements? And did you get any confirmation that UA had received your fax?

In January it took 3 weeks with no acknowledgment of fax receipt. I ended up calling.

Thanks for the reply! I gave United a call too and the operator said they changed to a new fax number:
605-343-0215

Good thing I read your message and decided to call, otherwise I might have had to wait a few weeks, thanks!

CO's FAX Number for Status Match

Does anyone have the Fax Number for CO where I can send in my info to get a Status match. I searched this thread found all the numbers except CO.

Thanks in advance!

Just did it today myself. 832-235-2713.

Send your most recent statement where you have status showing the level, as well as your onepass number. Include a note asking to upgrade your status to elite to match your (insert airline here) status.

I did the AA gold challenge. 10K miles and now status on two airlines! I'd have it in a few months anyway, but why wait?

Do Partner Airlines Count?

Sorry if it's been mentioned elsewhere, I couldn't find it... besides the fact this may appear as a stupid question.

I'm trying to figure out if CO or DL offered a challenge instead of a match, would it only count on their metal only? I am presuming yes, since it seems pretty obvious, but it would be nice if Skyteam partner flights also count.

Thanks!

I sent my details about a week ago to United by fax (520-881-4458).

Is this the wrong number now? Should I resend my proofs again?

Delta used to status match AA Gold with DL Silver but now seems to be doing challenges mostly where you have to do a certain amount of DL flying to get status.

An airline will generally upgrade your account only once -- once in an account lifetime -- with a status-match from another airline. The status match is good through at least the end of February of the following year. Some status matches will result in status that is good for more than one membership year, but that usually involves asking for a status match in the the latter part of the year.

Are the delta challenges one-time only or can they be repeated, a la AA challenges?

FlyerTalker671 May 8, 2006 2:45 pm

i was under the impression that DL doesnt have a challenge. can someone tell me the rules of the challenge, also with CO matching gold status of AA, what do you need to do, just call CO and tell them what? thanks
