Thank you!

Yes, I have just checked BMI, yet...BMI is not so attractive for me... :( I should better to ask UA to have an elite status of Star , and NW to have an elite status of Skyteam...

One more data point for everyone:

We recently hired a guy from Canada, who relocated to Washington. He had the highest level of status on Air Canada, and United comped him to Premier Exec.

Truly excellent thread. Using the advice I have had a status match (BMI DC Gold) to CO Gold. Thanks to all for the useful info.

Does anyone know how many days after status match approval you will get the actual membership kit from UA?

My UA status match email says - "Your Premier Executive membership card and benefit guide will arrive in the mail in 4-6 weeks."

Update: I got my membership kit exactly 14 days after my approval.

I remember first seeing this thread about 9 months ago and found it invaluable. After achieving Platinum on AA, I was able to match to Continental, AWA, Frontier, Alaskan, and UA without any issues. I fly all those airlines so I'll probably be able to maintain status on them all going into next year without much problem.

Now, I'm going to be moving to Australia and Qantas tells me they don't match. Anyone else tried with any success?

Does Virgin Blue offer a flying club separate from Virgin Atlantic? I've been a Virgin member for a while (will be flying upper class to London on 80,000 miles in December. A $9,000 ticket for $213.49!!) but didn't see any programs on the Virgin Blue website.

BiziBB Nov 8, 2005 3:48 am

Virginblue's FFP is due soon, and will likely link into other AU Virgin-branded products, so you should find news of this soon, on the QF forum. Whenever Branson stages his next stunt here...

debua1k Nov 9, 2005 7:56 pm

I requested and received a status match from UA 1K to AS MVP Gold in August. Since then, I have flown nearly every week from LAS-PDX. I am not going to make MVP Gold for 2006 based on my miles. The matched status expired on 12/31/05. I called the Customer Service number on the back of my card and they told me to call back in late December and they will review my flight pattern to determine if they will give me MVP Gold for 2006 anyway... Everyone cross your fingers for me...

wanaflyforless Nov 9, 2005 8:47 pm

It seems little has changed.

NWA still will not comp Plat...and CO will.

I requested Comps from both airlines...and will be flying both but NWA more and NWA has a partner award I want that CO doesn't.
In my letter to NWA in addition to showing my EXP credentals and proving I fly plenty I made it clear I was only promising them lots of flying next year if they match me to Plat.

They matched me to Gold, and specified it will be good through Feb 2007 ^ .

CO also gave me Plat....

So now I either make Plat on both airlines in 2006 or I stick with CO for their generosity or I stick with NWA for the partner award and the fact I will be flying them more...but seeing how everything is reciprocal between them and CO I am not sure what to do. I will be earning Plat on atleast one of these airlines...but does doing both really make sense? It seems if I have that much SkyTeam flying it would be better to diversify with a European program for lounge access benefits.

I want a status comp from United from AA but I lost my card :(

and I only get statements via e-mail

Will a statement printout from e-mail work? Or even a printout directly from AA.com?

gleff Nov 19, 2005 6:44 pm

Your AA.com statement should suffice

From CO to AA and back to CO

I was CO Platinum for several years (earned with BIS miles) then switched to AA four years ago and have been AA EXP ever since. Naturally I lost my status on CO. I want to switch back to CO and have the first flight set for Jan. 1. From this thread I understand that CO will likely comp me back to PLT, and that if I request the status now, they will do through Feb. 2007. Retaining it next year won't be a problem. My questions are:

1. Will they accept a faxed request that includes the documentation mentioned on page 1 of this thread?
2. If so, what is the fax number?
3. Will it matter that I was PLT before and jumped ship?
4. Will it matter that year to date I have zero mileage on CO?

Thanks,
Alex

1) Yes.
2) No idea.
3 & 4) Not really...just make sure that in the fax you state that you are switching back and that you've flown XXXXXX amount of BIS seats on AA and that you were a PLT on CO before and that your travels will be picking back up starting January, and that you are requesting a status comp.

Good luck & safe travels.

CO match to NWA - with special circumstances

I have read this tread with great interest. I was matched GE status this March to NWA from HP. Since that time I have flown over 125,000 miles with NWA. I have recently learned that NWA will stop flying to my home airport (RNO) in January. I want to get status matched to CO but have been unable to convince them that this is not my doing. I don’t want to leave NWA but they are leaving town. I have made several phone calls and two letters on this matter. I have even tried to contact NWA for a letter to release CO from this agreement. No luck yet. I have sent a letter to US Airways trying to get matched to top level elite then try to get CO to match, but it has been a month now and no return mail. Anyone have any new ideas?

Thanks!

Hi I am Platinum Elite (Sky Team Elite Plus) with Flying Blue (AF/KLM) and *G with BMI. Flying blue is a disaster - I was orginally a plat card with FD and BMI are in such a mess with their modularisation that I am thinking of moving to other carriers.

I wondered which oneworld carrier would comp me - I fly about 20 transatlantic (Biz Cabin) sectors a year plus connecting UK domestic and inter european sectors.

I'm reluctant to do challenges but want to get equivalent benefits to those I have now. Any ideas?

reikkonen Nov 30, 2005 6:10 am

HI!

Today, I checked UA'S homepage. I found that my status is P-Exective. I was AA's Plat, I got it from the famous Challenge. Thank you for FT and FT members.

Hi Stuart.

I have AA-PLT, and I am satisfied with AA and oneworld. To be honest, if I were you, I would do Challenge-GLD/PLT. Anyway, have you asked AA or other? :)

good luck!

Please mind AA (or BA) and the funny exclusion about BA (or AA) flights from London to the US.

Don't know if any would comp you, but you would satisfy a Gold challenge on AA on your first transatlantic (Biz Cabin) outbound leg, and satisfy a Platinum challenge on the return leg. LHR-JFK, for example, is 3452 miles. You would get 5178 q-points in each direction. You would get gold bonus (25%) on top of your class-of-service bonus on the outbound, and would get Platinum bonus (100%) on top of COS bonus on the return. With 20 transatlantic Biz sectors per year, you should top 100,000 q-points per year, giving you top-tier EXP (and OneWorld) status every year, even without your UK domestic and inter european travel. You could book the UK and european for AA miles or somebody else's miles, depending on fares and reciprocity percentages.

While this isn't strictly a comp, You would be mid-tier elite by the end of your first trip, and since that trip is in biz, you wouldn't miss any benefits except a few miles on the outbound leg. And since you don't mention any U.S. domestic flights, you wouldn't really miss any significant benefits during the first year as Platinum, while you are earning Executive Platinum (even if you did have a few U.S. domestic flights, you should have plenty of earned upgrades to use).

I'd recommend you pop on over to the AA forum and read up on challenges. The only catch is that you should plan on flying AA transatlantic.

Thanks for this most informative thread. I faxed UAL a request for a status match early this week (based on CO Plat status) and when I logged into my account today, I am now listed as Premier Executive.

I had (earned) Premier status >5 years ago (before I moved to Houston), but now that I'm back in the SF area, I will probably be flying UA more.

Also, when I tried to fax number on Monday, it seemed to be very busy--either busy signals or no pickups. It did finally go through after several attempts!

Try again. I don't see any reason why US wouldn't comp you CP. If that doesn't work, try faxing HP for the match.

I'm reading through this thread to try to find my best option for getting a status match on UA.

I am US Air Gold, CO Gold, Delta Gold and EuroBonus (SK) Silver. Should I send copies of all those cards to UA to request status match to Prem Ex, or am I better off not sending the US Air and SK cards since those are *A partners?

I joined UA MP years ago but have never credited miles there, since I credit them primarily to SK (most of my travel is transatlantic SK). However, I have booked several of my transatlantic flights with UA tickets and always take connecting flights on TED (about 8 or 10 flights in the last year).

Should I explain this pattern to them or just send copies of the cards and ask for the match?

Do not use a * Alliance card to try to get a status match with UA or any other * Alliance carrier. Don't even mention it to UA. Show the DL card or DL and CO card.

End/beginning of month/workweek often equates with heavier volumes when it comes to faxes. Could explain that.

Not surprised, but if DL ran a check by calling BA, it would not be too hard for DL to find out that the last names on the accounts don't match -- presuming the assistant and the boss have different last names.

I know BA Gold has translated into US Gold too without much issue, but it was for the same person.

ok - Sounds like a comp from Flying Blue (KLM / Air France) to United is possible. Can someone provide me with the fax number and details on how I can do this?

BA will not match anyone's status. You have to earn status the old fashioned way - by flying with them!

Volvic – Many thanks for this - it's important to me to remember this. One of the reasons I don't have Oneworld status is due to the fact that BA are so expensive for CW compared to others I use AF/BMI/KLM/UAL/NW. I’ll use AA metal for transatlantic to ensure miles etc are ok. I often use MAN and I believe BA transatlantic are ok for miles from here.

Gemac - appreciate your help - looks like I'll earn status easily enough. I do a few interanl flights in US but I can always use existing status with other airlines or Priority Club card for lounge access.

Tried it dozens of time and never worked.

GVA Dec 2, 2005 3:04 pm

Didn't document this back then but reading through this thread made me think of my personal experience with Continental:

-AM European Time, send email asking CO for their fax number for comps.
-2hrs later get a reply with number.
-10 minutes after that send my fax out.
-Check account 1hr after that and already have my status matched ^

Since then CO has been getting all my transatlantic business, 65% of US domestic whilst flying Skyteam partners in europe represents about 75% of my business.

In that sense them matching me has been a good incentive for me to fly and rediscover SkyTeam (which is better than most people here think it is).
