I have read that DL won't match platinum status, but it's worth considering that I got the F+ / FB status by flying on DL in the first place! |
Hi Guys,
Just got a quick question re status match. I have seen alot of status match opportunities between non-star alliance carriers to *A carriers, but not the other way round. Does anybody know any airline which will happily status match BD gold to their equivalent tier? A majorty of my travel is in C, and mainly to the states with the odd few european trips in between. Any suggestions or info would be appreciated. |
North American *A
Hi guys.
Any idea if any of the North American *A carriers will comp./match me status (I am a QF Platinum [OW Emerald, top tier]) ? Is the "Air Canada don't comp./match" rule still accurate ? What about UA or US ? |
Probably:Hilton, Marriott, SPG and Priority.

Help with VS & BD Gold
I am currently a VS and BD gold member, and would like to get a status match on UA and AA. Could you advise what they may match to, and how to go about applying for the match from start to finish? Any help is much appreciated. Thank you so much for taking the time to reply.

I am particularly interested in UA matching my AA PLT. Thanks! Dear Mr dillard8's dad, Congratulations! You have been awarded Premier status in the Mileage Plus Program! This status recognizes your importance to United, and will make your travel with us easier and more rewarding than ever. You will receive your 2005 Premier card in 4-6 weeks. Until then, simply present your Mileage Plus account number to enjoy all the benefits of being a Premier member. And for details about the Premier program, visit www.united.com . This promotional status will be effective until February 28, 2006 . To maintain the status, you have to fly 25,000 paid flight miles or 30 paid flight segments on United, United Express, United Shuttle or our Star Alliance partners within a calendar year. We hope you will travel with us often, and experience the exceptional service and style reserved for our Premier members around the world. Thank you for choosing United Airlines. Enjoy your Premier membership! However, when he actually received his membership kit, it is clearly valid through 2/07, not 2/06. |
Anyone know of any airlines that would match airtran elite status?

UA to AC Status Match Failed.
I figured I'd give it a try, but didn't get any satisfaction. I am *A Gold, UA Premier Exec, w/numerous hotel and car-rental "gold and platinum" status holdings, and am a bona-fide relocation to Canada as of 2 weeks ago. My response: a big fat "No" from Aeroplan. I guess I'll earn AirMiles on WestJet within Canada, and continue to book tickets via UA for flights to the USA. Their loss. The people I was speaking to at Aeroplan had never even heard of such a thing as allowing status to be given from another airline, and were not about to bend the rules for me regardless of how compelling an argument I made. When I told them about other airlines' willingness to do this status-matching, they just didn't believe me. Hope this saves somebody else some time. Cheers |
So here is one for you guys...
I'm a US GP and sitting at about 38K EQM so far this year flying mostly on UA. They make the most sense from SFO, and are our designated corporate carrier. Earlier this year I tried to get UA to comp me, but they declined due to the "no poaching *A partner elites" policy. Today I met our UA account rep and she offered to match my status if I send her an e-mail. This sounds good, but I'm wondering what the timing of this might be. Will a comp today be good only through the end of THIS year (without flying 50K miles)? Or, does it not matter until I fly 50K next year and maintain status in 2007? If I have the option to keep it through next year, I'd probably get it now so I can credit my upcoming UA flights there and my US flights to US. If I would need to earn 50K miles in the rest of this year, I'll probably wait until after that point to make the request. Thanks in advance for the advice. |
Will CO Onepass match my Aeroplan Elite status
I'm an Aeroplan Elite (*A Gold), and have a CO Onepass account with about 45K miles (earned many years ago). Will CO match my Aeroplan Elite status? I'm based in India (if that matters).

Just out of curiosity, do you get the same kit as everyone else after you are status comp'ed as opposed to having earned it?
As well, I'm thinking of comping to US Prem. Exec. from AC Elite. Does anyone know what, if any, is in that kit? Thanks |

Also, I stand corrected in the expiration date of the comped status - although the confirmation email my dad got said that he would receive premier status through Feb. 2006, when he received the membership kit it is clear that it is good through Feb. 2007.

At Delta's suggestion we faxed copy of UA's status card. Requested D to email results. After two weeks no email no letter, no phone call. Suggestions?----especially I do not have number for live Skymiles person-does anyone?

oneworld status match?
Being mainly a Star Alliance flyer, I'm currently *G with AC (Elite), BMI (Gold) and *S with United.
However, I do occasionally have to fly oneworld, and unfortunately, despite heaping rather a lot of miles onto my Qantas card, they've all been lowly discount-economy tickets, meaning I've still got absolutely zero status. Are there are oneworld airlines that might match my status from AC or BM? I have a fair bit of oneworld travel coming up towards the end of the year due to RTW routes that are best covered by oneworld airlines, and am really going to miss lounge access! |

I need your advice
Hi guys,
I need your advice. I have an AA's PLT. I would like to have a status match with European based or Japanese based airline. I could find out someone adviced to try to ANA. Anyone could succeed? And I got PLT from Challenge. Is there any trouble to make a status match? Thank you reikkkonen |

I got status on NWA a couple of weeks ago by faxing a letter to the # in gleff's orginal post. it was a match to my UA, but didn't have the requisite materials. I sent a copy of my membership card and a print-out of every flight I took in the last year (which showed elite bonuses separately so NWA could verify that I have had status for awhile w/ UA). And it worked, I had status within a few days.
For what its worth, I also have also flown NWA a lot over the years. Everyone I know was getting a silver challenge (which is hard, since as someone pointed out, you have to go with the really expensive tickets), so I got lucky. Still need to fly 25K miles to keep the status though! Oh well, better something than nothing. :) |
If I ask CO for a status match with AA (I am EXP), will I get the same status or the basic level?

But I believe it's important for us to remember that while they're doing their job, we don't have to be sympathetic. After all, we're customers. And we have every right to seek out the product that best fits our needs. If an airline program offers a better deal for our flying and buying patterns, by all means we should take advantage of that offer! And many airlines make it easier for us to do so -- by matching our current status with elite privileges in their program. One of the most frequently asked questions on Flyertalk, throughout the various forums, is "Will airline X match my titanium status in the Infinite Airways program?" or something to that effect. And since fellow flyers are beginning to think about their plans for 2004, I thought I'd take a stab at summarizing the "who will match what? and how do I do it?" conventional wisdom. Of course, this is general advice. It doesn't work in every case. And my knowledge may be superceded by better and more recent information. But this is what I've collected over time. If you would like to correct me, please do so. It will only make for a better information summary. And thread links are welcome! So here goes --- Continental Will match status, generally to equivalent level up to Platinum (top tier) They seem concerned about fraud, so require a bunch of information:
Along with a note explaining you'd like to shift your busy to them if they'll match your current status. United Will match status, generally to equivalent level up to Premier Executive (mid-tier) Send a copy of your current elite statement or elite card along with a note explaining you'd like to shift your busy to them if they'll match your current status to: America West Will match status, generally to equivalent level up to Platinum (top tier) Send a copy of your current elite statement or elite card along with a note explaining you'd like to shift your busy to them if they'll match your current status to: America West also offers a challenge program, awarding status based on substantial flying over a 90 day period. They may even offer Silver elite status just for the asking. See this thread on America West status challenges. Delta Will match status, generally to equivalent level up to Gold (mid-tier) Send a copy of your current elite statement or elite card along with a note explaining you'd like to shift your busy to them if they'll match your current status to: [Edit] There are recent reports of Delta offering "challenges" in response to status match requests -- that is, fly x segments in y days for status. American American will consistently match United status to equivalent level up to mid-tier (Platinum). They are quirkier about matching status from other carriers. Sometimes they'll offer Gold status. Sometimes they'll just ask you to complete a challenge (miles flown in 90 days). Sometimes they'll offer Gold status and a challenge for Platinum. For the best consolidated discussion of challenges, see this summary by FewMiles. Alaska Will match status, generally to equivalent level -- with midtier on most carriers being equivalent to Alaska's MVP Gold (top tier) Fax a copy of your current elite statement or membership card to: Northwest Northwest will match status, but they're quirky. Sometimes they'll match to equivalent level up to Gold (midtier). Other times they reject status match requests outright. I'm not an expert as to why. Send: Your WorldPerks account number Copies of your most recent (2) elite mileage statements They will not accept: Travel agency reports Letters of elite status Membership cards indicating elite status with another airline Travel itineraries. Mail information to: USAirways Will match status, generally to equivalent level up to Chairman's Preferred (top tier) Send a copy of your current elite statement or elite card along with a note explaining you'd like to shift your busy to them if they'll match your current status to: Mexicana Will match status, generally to equivalent level up to Gold (top tier) You can make your request by emailing <[email protected]> and saying that you'd like to move your business to Mexicana if they'll match your status. You will be requested to provide proof of your current elite status by forwarding a copy of your current airline elite card or elite statement. A scan attached to an email reply will suffice. If you don't hear back in a few days, email again. Mexicana is just like that. But Enrique is a nice guy. [Edited to say that per kempis, Enrique is no longer at MX. http://www.flyertalk.com/forum/frown.gif ) Airtran -- Updated 11/27/03 From December 1 to December 31, 2003 Airtran is offering a formal elite status match program. Just print their elite status match form, provide your Airtran account information and your competitor elite status information, include a frequent flyer statement (July 1 2003 or more recent) and fax it all to 1-912-966-6378, attention: Elite Matching Program. You should receive an elite card in 3-4 weeks. Frontier -- Updated 11/27/03 Send your name, EarlyReturns number, and most recent airline elite statement to [email protected] or fax to (720) 374-4375 (attn: Quick Ascent). Accounts with matched status also earn 5000 bonus miles for each flight (up to 15,000 bonus miles) for flights taken by January 31, 2004. British Midland I have no personal experience with this, but my sense is that British Midland will happily comp British Airways Gold members but little else. See this discussion. Airlines that will not generally match status:
There are exceptions to every rule, as I'm reminded by this thread which reports that Lufthansa is easy to get a comp from if you're in Turkey or China. http://www.flyertalk.com/forum/smile.gif Bear in mind that status matches are generally one-time only affairs -- so only request the match if you plan to use the status and requalify. Otherwise it's a future opportunity wasted. [Edit] Per suggestions below, let me also note that getting comped from one airline in an alliance to another airline in an alliance is usually much harder. Airlines often have "no poaching" rules, so that United is usually unwilling to match Lufthansa status, and Continental and Northwest are generally unwilling to match each others' status. There are documented exceptions, of course, and the closeness of the alliance is often a factor here. But showing elite status outside of an alliance often produces better results. It would be great if folks would help keep this up to date. Then, when posters ask about comping procedures, we could just link a single thread... Anyone with recent history getting a match on NWA? I've heard a couple of times that the match is only good for the remainder of this year - so you'd have to fly 25k miles to keep status. Yuck...
|
BMI/British Midlands will give a status match up to their top-tier of Gold for UK-based accounts supplying a letter and a copy of their BA, IB or AA card. (BA Golds and AA Plats and ExPlats have been getting BMI Gold in my experience.)
