What if one does not receive statements and only has their web summary to show - will other airlines accept this for a match?

Specifically UA to CO

I know the following to have worked:

1) Photocopy of card & printout of online statement
2) Photocopy of card only

I haven't seen the online statement printout alone work with UA to CO, but it's worked with some other status matches.

IMHO - Due to data protection laws BA wouldn't give out any info and DL wouldn't call. I think may be the reason they need copies of cards and statements. Otherwise they would call the other FFP and get your details.

I know BA Gold has translated into US Gold too without much issue, but it was for the same person.

and I'm sure this will never happen, since BA will be not into giving away ANY information on their Gold customers accounts...

I am currently attempting to status match my AA-PLT with OZ-Diamond. Will report back with the results.

PS to Russian Guy - that wasn't just "how to work around the system"... that was outright fraud. :td:

That's the way it's supposed to work. But it doesn't work that way always (unfortunately). Data protection laws doesn't mean that they are not violated on occassion. ..... and the "gender" of the accounts not matching has certainly been caught once by UA when a status match from BA (Gold, if I recall correctly) was underway. Yes, some may "get away with it", but one was also certainly caught -- but without consequence other than not achieving the status match.

In any case, BA won't be needing copies of cards and statements since they generally don't do status matches (at least not these last couple of years). DL would want such copies, but DL's been known to do status matches without copies of either the card or alternatively without copies of the statements.

Yes, that is what Flyertalk is all about, but it does not include commiting fraud to do so. Altering a FF statement and sending it in claiming it is yours is downright deception, and if the airlines read this thread (and they do) then you might be responsible for messing up things for 1000's of people if they decide to pull their status match program.

Dual status with NW and another carrier --> CO

Curious about this one...

Let's say you have earned status with both NW and, say UA. Can you use the UA status to comp over to CO, or will they be able to tell that you already have status with NW based on your previous CO reservations w/ a NW number?

95%+ chance no problem at all.

UA -> CO status match (even when having NW status) has worked before. Given the circumstances you present, CO could -- if they want -- tell that you had status with NW; however, they don't seem to do that "checking" routinely when making their status match decision -- or at least it's not an obstruction to CO status matches.

Agree with Gleff, given the sad state of affairs of IT within airlines I seriously doubt the could make that match.

cerealmarketer Dec 3, 2005 10:55 am

Perfect, thanks. CO's CEO is proud of the fact that it can pull up someone's entire history with one email address, OnePass #, or other info. in an instant. Sounds like it's gone through with no problem though. I'll prob. have a different address at the time anyway.

AA reschedule forces me to defect - DL?

I am starting to book my monthly flights for 2006, and see that AA has rescheduled in such a way as to make me overnight coming home every time. That ain't gonna happen!

These days, is there any chance DL will comp AA EXP to top tier?

And I'm used to lots of free upgrades on AA. What are upgrades on DL like?

TheKnife Dec 6, 2005 12:02 pm

I submitted my deal to be an Premier Ex on UA. I'm currently ExPlat on AA. I have a UA flight late Jan I wanna be comfortable in.

Do you know how long it takes? I just sent out a letter along with my AA summary. I'm PLT and hoping to also be comfortable for a mid Dec flight.

DL GMs (which is generally what AA EXPs get status matched to with DL) get domestic upgrades sort of akin to what AA EXPs get ... i.e., unlimited free domestic upgrades; but I have had free upgrades with AA as an EXP far more frequently than I get them with DL as a DL Platinum Medallion.

The chances that DL will comp a typical AA EXP to DL PM is very slim to none. Gold Medallions is the level they generally give as part of a status match to an AA EXP.

I have no idea how long it takes but mid December might be pushing it for an airline. Good luck. If I were you I'd fax and overnight your info but its too late for that now.

Faxing UA with a copy/printout of the AA statement and a copy of the AA card has resulted in UA doing a status match within a week's time or less generally. Maybe December is more busy, but January has not been so busy as to mess up the 1-week or less time frame for a status match.

Update: OZ wants a statement as well as a copy of the card... no way getting around the card requirement.

They are processing my application, and the agent said in all likelihood Seoul will approve my request. However, my mom hasn't received her card yet, so without a copy of it they're not too optimistic.

I don't recall whether it was this thread or another one, but I did see it reported a year ago that CO matched a UA electronic statement printout w/o card.

The card requirement will do a little more to prevent illegitimate status matching, but it's not much harder than "doctoring" the electronic statements used for status matching too.

I would not be surprised if most airlines/hotels that do status matching don't find it worth the resources to very thoroughly double check (and potentially alienate) a more-likely-to-be-good prospective customer.

IF someone is wishing to push the envelope (and then some) for "status" when they could not otherwise earn frequent traveller status or retain it is an indication that the cost of the status match is likely to be slim -- especially compared to legitimate status members who truly milk a program -- like using BA Gold for anytime lounge access and UA award tickets to get airside, etc.

My Experience

I just thought I will share my experience. I am Alaska MVP Gold with over 90K EQMs flown this year. I tried to get a status match on Delta (Sent request around 11/11), and they sent me this challenge:
6000 miles between Dec 1,2005 and Feb 28, 2006 will get me Silver
12,000 miles between the same dates will get me Gold.

No direct bump to even silver!

I am thinking if I should even switch now....am trying to figure out how many bonus miles I will lose by switching vs. miles I cant get on Alaska for flying Singapore Air, Air France, etc.

Edit: I sent a printout of my Alaska Air mileage activity, a copy of my Gold card, and of course, a request letter.

Delta has clearly shifted toward more often offering challenges. I'm hoping they are considering adopting even more aspects -- formal and informal -- of the AA program. :D

I took the advice of this thread and AS matched my UA Premier status. Within two weeks of getting MVP on AS, I booked two flights, one from MFR - PDX and the other from MFR - MCO. Both times I was able to reserve the Exit row seat which is not small issue when you're 6' 8" and flying for 7 hours. I'm pretty confident at this point that I'll be able to achieve AS MVP on flight segments alone.

GREAT THREAD!!!

I'm just wondering two things. I'm an NW Gold, will I get UA 1P (Premiere Exec) or just 2P?

Also if I get my status comped now (next week) it will carry over for all of 06?

Thanks!

NW Gold generally gets UA Premier Executive.

And getting a UA comp (based on NW Gold status) this month generally gives status through the end of February 2007. At least that's what a late October/beginning November status match yielded.

Cool! Thanks a lot.. mileage earning opportunities are greater with UA.. think i'm going to make the switch...

Continental address changed

Hello everyone,

First, thanks to all of you for this really informative thread.

I was AAdvantage Gold (through my employer), and just switched to CO. I mailed my documents 6 days ago, and as of yesterday I'm showing up as Silver at continental.com. I wanted to let everyone know that they changed the status match PO box, and I figured out the fax number.

After emailing the service center, here is what they request:

-Full Name
-OnePass Account Number
-Current Address
-Current Phone Number
-A copy of the most recent statement from the other airline showing status and current mileage
-A copy of your current elite card from the other airline

You can send it to:

OA Match Request
P.O. Box 4757
Houston, TX 77210-4757

or, fax to 832-235-2713.

It took 3 days for UA to give me Premier Executive after matching my AA EXP stus. I used a web account printout and a copy of my card using the fax number.

AA EXP->CO PLT in 7 days

Mailed my documents (copy of EXP card and latest statement via web printout showing 100K+ miles so far this year) on Dec. 2. As of today my CO status is now Platinum. It works.

CO (and at least previously US) seems to be the only major "legacy" US airline that status matches up to and including into their top-tier. (AA, DL, UA and NW are -- to say the least -- certainly far more reserved in considering such top-tier to top-tier status matches.)

worldperks --> mileage plus

I'm trying to get United to status match my NW worldperks. I'm platinum on NW with 100K+ EQMs and since it seems United is going to ask for my mileage statement + card copy they're going to see that. Can anyone tell me what status I'm likely to get?

UA usually match other top levels to their Premier Exec (1P).

Does anyone know a US AIr phone number I can call to follow up on my fax? Has anyone gotten a USAir comp lately? I'm AA PLT (requalified for '06)...

And to build on this question, how long did it take? I'm trying to get a *A comp, and flying OZ on Saturday, but they're dragging their behinds. US might be the back up (don't want to burn the UA comp just yet :D )
