New Account
I opened both a personal and a business account on March 22rd (Offer still terminated on March 31st at that point), using cash and an EIN number I got from IRS.gov just minutes before I went to the Chase Branch near my office. The banker gave me free checks on both accounts ( I didn't get to choose the design, but at least I don't have to write in my info at the top of the checks) because I opened with cash, or so he says. Opted for the $25 card on the personal, and of course got the default $65 card on the business account. That was a Monday and I got my cards on Saturday the 27th. I live in Houston and the wife and I had decided to go to Louisiana to do a little gambling for our birthdays. I used the business card to pay for the buffet at the casino, and the personal card for some sodas on the way home. Monday the 29th I used my cards at work. 5 pinless swipes each for amounts ranging from $0.05 - $0.09 each. On 4/5 I received 10,057 miles, 12,500 miles, and 12,500 miles. 4/8 I received another 10,000 miles. I have yet to receive the last 5k, but I'm under the impression that these will come after I've been billed for the yearly fees. Anyway, I used the miles I had for a round trip ticket to Costa Rica ( we're going in June and I'd already seen some rewards seats disappear, so I jumped on it). Booked a flight for myself and the wife, 1st class to and economy back, somehow talking my way into 2 Elite seats even though the only miles I've ever had were from this promo. Spent a total of $811 for everything using my Business debit card after transferring some more money over, only to find out that small business accts. also receive a 2% rebate from MasterCard when you purchase from Continental. I realize this would have been much cheaper if the wife had opened the accts. too, but she didn't believe this wasn't a scam (don't ask...) but all in all with the fees I only spent about $880 instead of the $1270 that would have netted me only 2 Eco seats instead of 2 outbound FC seats. So in closing, I'm extremely glad I found FlyerTalk. It saved me ~$400 in less than a month! I plan on only having to pay for lodging next year for Jamaica thanks to this site. You guys rock!
Also, from what I understand, the Mileathon does not award points retroactively, so I can't get the awards for the debit cards. I have however work my way up to 17 points already. I had no idea this FF stuff could be so lucrative! |
Will I get the last 10K miles?
Welcome to FT Swabodda. Yup, it's a fun and rewarding site.
I opened my personal acct. on 2/17 (including a direct deposit of my paycheck) and received my $25 debit card a week later. I also used a $125 cash offering coupon. The banker said I "should get both the 25K miles & the $125." First direct deposit occurred 2/26. 12,500 miles posted on 3/17 and 2,500 miles posted today, 4/17/10. Since I also got the $125 what do you think my odds are of getting the last 10K miles? Most people seemed to get the 10K first. If the 10K miles don't post by early May I'll call my banker and ask her to check into it. Yes, I could email Chase but I'd like her to do the legwork. :) |
Can anyone confirm that a direct deposit from ING will count as avoiding the monthly service fee?

For those of you that opened the business account, do you see any evidence of your OnePass number when you log in to online banking? When I log in to my personal account, there is a place where I can click to see my OnePass miles, but I don't see anything similar when I log in to the business account. (I do have the debit card for both accounts, fyi)
Just trying to figure out if I need to contact Chase about this.... |

Was the $125 via a 16 digit banker's code (just like the 25k)? |

For instance
https://www.chase.com/ccp/index.jsp?..._Business_9893 Always yields coupon codes beginning in 3546360 Whereas https://www.chase.com/index.jsp?pg_n..._Business_9898 Always yields coupon codes beginning in 3546852 Under no circumstances will two coupon codes from the same series ever work even in different years because it will say you have already received the promotion. But usually coupon codes from different series WILL work. I'm not saying that is the reason but it is a definite possibility. I did get a xerox copy of my coupon in my welcome pack. My December 28 and April coupon codes both started with 3678462000... That might be the cause for the rejection; I still think a possibility is that the 2009 one was opened too late, the cards came in 2010, etc. Who knows though. |

It will always yield a coupon with 3678339 as the first 7 digits which will solve your problem if your last one was a 3678462 coupon. I confirmed this all yesterday personally opening another account successfully with a unique 7 digit coupon code after failing 2 minutes earlier with a non unique first 7 digits. |

Can you open these accounts over the phone?

Business Checking - No |
Does one need to maintain a ton of money, Premier status, or a Chase credit card to have the monthly fees waived? How much are these monthly fees?
Thanks! |

5 debit card transaction or 1 direct deposit to waive the fee. If not, 6 dollars a month.

The "Show Rewards" link does NOT appear on my business accounts either, but my Onepass # does appear on the business statement.
