It's either/or. The first time I went to chase to open an account for miles, they had a sign out front for the cash reward. I couldn't get both, so I took the cash. (I know some FTers would gasp at my choice!)

How do people maintain these accounts to avoid the monthly fee ?
I have direct deposit into the personal one, but for the business one I need to have 5 debit card transaction/month.
Between the 2 of us that 10 transactions/month, pretty painful.

So how soon can we close these accounts ?
Thanks for all input.

Just find a corner nearby that has a couple gas stations and run them through for a dollar or two per debit card at each station. Do it a couple times a month and you're good.

It's generally thought to be safe to close after 6 months.

I apologize for the confusion on the account. Please contact the customer service number on the back of the debit card so they can resolve this issue."

22,500 miles posted today around noon, dated yesterday. I have no idea what I did that finally got them to post or if it was the result of some sort of internal accounting but I got my miles.

To follow up further, today someone from the (877) 292-4273 number did call me back and stated the miles would be posting (after they did post :) ) so I presume I have them to thank for resolving it for me. They did seem to be the most on the ball of the people I talked to. On-line secure e-mail was completely useless and I didn't feel like I got far with the ordinary customer service line either.

I tried and failed today. After the account was open, I'd deposited $500 (cold hard cash), signed the disclosures, etc -- then, and only then, the banker put in my coupon code and the computer said that I'd already received the offer for this year. So, I had her cancel the account and refund my deposit (I accepted paper money for the refund).

Oh well. I also paid off my BA credit card with cold hard cash while I was there, so at least that was good.

For reference, I had opened my last checking accounts the last week of December 2009 and met the reward requirements in January 2010 -- that counts as a 2010 reward.

Another possibility is the coupon code must have different first 7 digits than the one you used last or it will reject it. Did you print a brand new one this time? Do you still have a copy of the old coupon code to compare the first 7 digits?

I printed a new coupon a few days ago, but I'm not sure if I have the one from December. (The only possible way I'd have it is if the banker stuck it into the "welcome folder" with all the forms.)

Mabuk dan gila Apr 15, 2010 8:14 pm

For instance

https://www.chase.com/ccp/index.jsp?..._Business_9893

Always yields coupon codes beginning in 3546360

Whereas

https://www.chase.com/index.jsp?pg_n..._Business_9898

Always yields coupon codes beginning in 3546852

Under no circumstances will two coupon codes from the same series ever work even in different years because it will say you have already received the promotion. But usually coupon codes from different series WILL work. I'm not saying that is the reason but it is a definite possibility.

I did get a xerox copy of my coupon in my welcome pack.

Hmm, I'll look in my welcome packet tomorrow and see.

Otherwise, if I try this again, I'm going to try the online application -- the person with whom I dealt today was a Sue Sylvester-type. :)

Some reported success in double-dipping last time, so I wouldn't rule out the possibility. I've been told that the fields where you banker inputs the coupon codes allow for multiple ones for each account opening.

I opened my personal checking account online using the link within the coupon. At the end of the application there was confirmation of the 25k mile offer, but I was not asked for my OnePass number anywhere.

Do I need to contact them to have the account associated with my OnePass membership?

Give them a few days and they will "usually" divine it on their own. Log in to chase.com, click on "show rewards" and then the account to get to the "Show Details" screen. It should list your Onepass number there but may take 4-5 days to show up.

Thanks for the response! I'll give them time to work thier magic.

Appologies if this question has been asked before - Is there any disadvantage to opening the business account online vs. going into a branch? Also, anything special to open a business account as a sole proprietorship w/o a current business tax id number?

I think rules for what is required to open a business account vary by state. In any case you can get an EIN number from the IRS instantly on-line here https://sa.www4.irs.gov/modiein/individual/index.jsp AFIK as long as your business has no income you have no further IRS requirements. I just filled out the EIN application as if I were freelancing in my customary line of work.

I haven't seen any credible reports of anyone being able to open a business account on-line lately. It may be theoretically possible but it always errors out for me and most everyone else. No harm in trying but don't be surprised if it does not work.

I think getting Mileathon credit for the personal (with $25 card) or business accounts is still up in the air. Supposedly, you can only get it in the personal with a Preferred card , which is the $65 one. Anyone got the other card and received Mileathon points?

How about the business account in general?
