Now, I am just curious (yes, one could say I am being greedy and should have myself stay at hotels to earn status) - will SPG grant me their plat status for comped Hyatt Diamond status, which won't have any stay records? This is ultimately to say that I am seeking for SPG plat status and not really interested in Hyatt Diamond (unless it is a means to get SPG plat status).

Curious Brahms77

If your stay history with Hyatt shows some activity, then it's not uncommon for SPG Plat to be granted to Hyatt Diamonds. If I were a Hyatt Diamond just matched to SPG Gold, I'd write back to Starwood saying the benefits of SPG Gold aren't enough to get me to switch when I can get SPG Gold without the status match too.

If I request the Starwood Platinum as a Marriott Platinum member, do I have to return the Marriott plat. card or can I keep it.

I submitted my Marriott Platinum information to SPG on Thursday afternoon and was give Platinum status with SPG by mid Friday afternoon. I have to say I'm very impressed with the speed in which they processed the request.

Wow! That indeed was impressive! How did they inform you, by email or phone call? Just curious.

Most impressive. I was told by Hilton that my status match request would take 12-14 days. I am now on day 3.

I received the email below.

As you are already an elite member, Platinum with Marriott Rewards, we realize your potential patronage of Starwood Hotels & Resorts Worldwide is great. As a result, we have upgraded you to the Starwood Preferred Guest Platinum Preferred Level good now thru 2008.

This is a one time only exception. In order to retain your Platinum Level membership for 2009, you will need to have a minimum of twenty five stays or fifty room nights. This number is based upon a calendar year basis, January 1 through December 31.

A Starwood Preferred Guest Platinum Preferred card has been ordered. You may expect your card to arrive in approximately six to eight weeks. In the meantime, you may print a copy of your temporary card from the Starwood Preferred Guest Website http://www.starwood.com/preferredguest. Should you have any further questions or concerns, please feel free to contact us at 888-xxx-xxxx.

Welcome to Platinum

Best regards,

Hilton Gold for booking a wedding?

Not sure if it belongs in here but I am a bit confused in a recent mailing I received where I was offered complimentary Hilton Gold status.

I am currently PC RA / Plat and haven't stayed in any Hilton hotel for quite some time. I did however recently book my upcoming wedding (in January 08) at a DoubleTree suites. @:-)

Do you think this could because of the wedding booking? I didn't ask for a status match or anything else I could think of?

Could be a possible tie-in with one of your airline programs. I had a similar offer for instant SPG gold in the mail and found out it had been a promotion to CO Plats.

Thanks again, gleff, for another status match thread. I faxed Starwood on Monday, requesting an upgrade to platinum status. I included a letter outlining my request, my HH account summary, a copy of my HH Diamond card, and a screenshot of my Starwood Gold account status. I received an email this morning, identical to the one BJD1r received. I just checked my account status, and it shows me as a Platinum Preferred Guest.

When is actually the best time to be status matched if one wants to have the longest possible validity?

And which is the best hotel program if I want to spend little money for the revenue rooms and get most out of it? I am so far a Diamond member with Hilton and may want to see some other nice hotels.
