Clearly not a retired English teacher since you used "its" instead of "it's."

BTW, thanks for the BankDirect referral a few months back. Worked great!

I used to want to be a math teacher. Now I were one.

(Actually, that's a very strange error for me. I know the difference.)

Not necessarily 'genetic,' pgary. It might be genetic if your PARENTS were math teachers! (good thing there are some biology teachers around to keep you math guys honest!).

Nordstrom Visa

Nordstrom Visa (Signature) still lists the 1% fee separately and on each purchase lists the exchange rate used for each purchase. No guessing. No hidden charges.

Apparently, this is becoming quite a rarity; it's the main reason I keep this card and we use it exclusively when traveling out of the country.

Nordstrom's, as well as a somewhat fair forex policy, also offers decent customer service--unlike most other credit cards.

I recently got overcharged a thousand bucks by a car rental company in France (for a drop off which was supposed to be free). Nordstrom's customer service actually resolved the issue in my favor. If this had been Citi we'd still be going around.

Too bad Nordstrom's rewards program isn't stronger.

Thats good to know. Can anyone provide similar info for the Target Visa? (no Nordstroms around here!)

I've never disputed a charge with my Target Visa, but it's also only 1%. I don't think they break out the 1% fee or print the exchange rate on your statement (at least not on the online statement--I threw away my last paper statement months ago).

Once again, I refer thee to the wiki, which has the most complete info:

I think that anyone who would become a high school math teacher voluntarily for 27 years must have some sort of genetic mutation.

welcome to flyertalk. I assume you're talking about a Citibank bank account/ATM card and NOT a Citibank credit card, right? What kind of bank account do you have? Were your withdrawals all at Citi-owned ATMs? In what countries? What specific fees were you charged? The more specific and detailed you can be, the more you can help us make the Wiki accurate.

As far as the 'foreign fee' is concerned, it may not make any difference if a Citi-owed ATM is used. I have an interest checking account at Citibank in NY and make withdrawals from a Citi-owned ATM in Rio de Janeiro. My statement always contains the notation CASH WITHDRAWAL AT NON-CITIBANK ATM. I get exactly the same notation at other Citibank branches abroad (recently at the KARMELICKA branch in Krakow). Nonetheless, whenever I bother to do the calculation, the rate used by Citibank is better than the oanda.com rate, even including the extra 1%.

I'll be going to Paris in late August, i have Citibank's online checking account..i believe getting cash from Citi owned ATM machine would be the best bet for us to retrieve Euros?

Your best bet would be to get a bank account from a bank that doesn't charge at ANY ATM. But if you must use Citibank, then yes, you should try to stick to Citi-owned ATMs and hope they don't decide to charge you extra fees anyway.

You should also call customer service and confirm what the fee schedule is for using both Citi and non-Citi ATMs overseas.
