Hypothetically, could you open the account on Sept. 25. Make a qualifying bill pay on Sept 29 as well as set up an ach to post before then end of september. Then set up another ach on Oct. 1. You could complete the terms of the offer in less than a week, right? Do you think a paypal transfer would qualify as an ach?
let us know when u do it.

You also get points for doing DD and Bill Pay. If you open a Savings Account too, you'll get points for doing an automatic transfer

Took my wife and I each 6 months to get the 40K TY rewards...not to mention countless emails...I even had $50K parked to avoid the fees. $800 in gift cards made it worth the hassle but they take forever to post. On a side note having a citi gold acct seemed to make it almost impossible to get declined for any citi card.

thanks. i have no problem parking $50k but did u did it all at once? i ask b/c my other bank account might put a freeze on such a large transfer at once. also, it is is 5x the minimum for Form 8300 (which doesnt really matter to me, but i want to be aware of any possible snags in the transfer of money).

Does it make you immune to the rule of no more than 2 cards per 65 days?

Google citi checking free miles 1099. I believe it made the national press.

You might want to read the last few pages of the 1099 thread here on flyertalk. There is a good chance that Citi has stopped issuing the 1099s as a result of the required use of the debit card causing the rebate rule to be applicable.

Easy time signing up at the branch. Set up paperless statements and a $10 recurring bill pay to a credit card right at the branch. Also, was told only needed $50 in direct deposit. Might have the requirements met within two weeks. Will report back.

FYI: I just signed up for the Citi Gold Acct through the online application. After I got the account set up I noticed that my account number was not available online so I called customer service. I was told by two different agents that they were not able to give out acct info for accounts 70 days and newer. So I have to wait to recent my welcome packet by mail and my checks to get my acct number. Lame!

So you did this as a household account, correct, or did you do 50K in each account.

I have done the deal twice for wife/I. First time for the AA miles, next time for the 40K TYP. (I think I closed account for a couple of months inbetween, don't recall how long.)

The first time it was a breeze to get the household account so we only needed one $50K balance.

The next time it took several months, being told I need to be a signer on wife's account etc. so we could have fees removed.

Son/Daughter just signed up for the 40KTYP and am going to try to get them on the household account as well, but am not looking forward to it.

This has been the most painful and ridiculous process ever...

- Couldn't get my routing # for x amount of days b/c it was a "new account" and nobody could see what state I opened it in b/c it was opened online.
- Online checking account verification didn't work for me, so I had to do the deposits. They showed up. I entered them in twice while staring right at them. Said they were wrong.
- Then spent ONE HOUR on the phone w/a level 2 "tech" to try and fix it. He determined they wanted screenshots and that there's a coding error on the site.
- I now have no bank account added and they want to leave it there so their tech team can address it.
- Today I got a call from Citi and they want a fax of my Drivers License for verification of who I am... okay.
- Today I tried to login, says my password is wrong and wants my debit card number to enter the account. Haven't received the debit card, can't login.
- Called and they said there's no entering the account now until I receive the debit card. So much for freaking making a bill payment and DD this month, gosh danget!
- Then I found out on the phone that the original debit card has been "locked" (canceled), and a new one sent... So I not only have to wait for the first debit card to arrive, but for the 2nd so I can even log in.

Gonna send all of this and more as a formal complaint to the company and maybe there will be some recompensation for the hours more that I will still have to spend on the phone w/Citi to work it all out. What the heck? Have opened countless online accounts before and never problems to this degree...
