You might be on to something there. Foursquare's mobile apps report the user's GPS coordinates as part of the checkin. Web-based checkins (like the mobile website and Auto4sq) don't have that info. Topguest may have decided they need coordinates to "prove" a checkin is legit.

A little birdie tells me that check-ins from a certain Firefox/Chrome extension still work.

Just saying.

Foursquare used to report back coordinates for the locations you checked into. You could harvest all the locations and then supply them at later check-ins. I did that and I haven't gotten points for several weeks now.

Topguest - additional points for checkins

It looks like my ride is over. Now I only get an error message while trying to log in.

Chrome has several, still hasn't found one.
Any tip?

You'll only receive the points for your initial sign up once. From now on, whenever you are at an IHG property or a Doubletree, check-in on your mobile device -- with a Foursquare account linked to your TG account -- and you will receive another 50 points per check-in per day.

FYI, apparently TG is monitoring accounts to confirm that people are actually at the physical location when they check-in.

Problem with that is that often my mobile device is "off" in terms of coordinates. I know that because when using Maps, it is off as well.

Well, I haven't seen points post for the last few check-ins and so I tried to log into topguest only to find out my account is suspended. This is interesting seeing as every time I have checked in I have been at the physical hotel. I guess they don't like the fact that I have checked into the same hotel 20 or more times over the last few months. It makes there program worthless if they are banning legitimate users and they don't even have the nerve to communicate with the account holder to let them know. Even more interesting is that while my account may be suspended they still have access to my foursquare check-in information and do not provide a means to remove it which does not make me happy.

If you're not physically located at the property and still want the points, then you *want* your location data indeterminate/disabled, not inaccurate. Use common sense about how often a given account checks in to a given property, and into multiple places in short order. I still don't see how anyone finds it worth their time to do this manually, but if you're dealing with a bunch of accounts and some simple programming (macros, even)...

I walk by the hotels mon-fri, usually spend a few seconds to check in manually (walk at the same time), don't see any problems/time wasting here.

I'm referring to those who go out of their way in some fashion and spend, say 5 minutes to get 100 points worth 50 cents. $6/hour for your time that way.

You control who has access to your foursquare account via foursquare, so you can always remove it. Go to https://foursquare.com/settings/connections and you can remove the permissions for topguest to see your checkins.

Been away a while, but I'm surprised to see TopGuest is still alive.

I'm also surprised to still see so many checkins on auto4sq - e.g. " That's 113 straight days at Wingate Wyndham - you set a new record!". But I'm guessing those folks just abandoned their accounts and didn't bother to turn off their checkins.

After all the banning, is anyone still using auto4sq for this? If topguest hasn't blacklisted auto4sq by now, they're hopeless.
