Still available on .com version.

Wow, I'm surprised it's lasted this long.

Hilton Otaru in Hokkaido is acting funny on the Expedia site as well, but I haven't been able to book anything yet...

Or you can opt for a seven day Japan Rail Pass, which gets you on the shinkansen and on all JR Rail lines throughout the network. Seven days will cost Y28300. If you're flying in to Tokyo, when you factor in the cost of the Narita Express, it works out to be a good deal. The key is to buy the exchange order before you go to Japan.

These are Expedia special rates, so presumably they're acting as a consolidator -- buying a block of rooms and reselling, only in this case they're reselling below cost!

Or is that not how these 'special rates' work?
That's what I thought, too.

just looked again, and it is now gone.

was going to book a second batch ... and it is no more.

I will not worry about air just yet until we know how Expedia will handle this.

Just booked June 30-Jul 4, Independence Day weekend. 4 nights for only $10.88. Now I've to find a cheap ticket. If tickets are too expensive, I might just forego the $10.88.
