Usually a lurker, but found this and wanted to share.

AA: ORD-DFW-HKG-CGK (Jakarta) r/t ~$920 dates in September/October

Bookable on AA.com

Example itin:

Depart Wed. 9/17

AA 2305 ORD-DFW (Q booking code)
AA 137 DFW-HKG (Q) -- arrive Thurs 9/18
AA 8917 HKG-CGK (Q) -- operated by Cathay Pacific

Return Tues. 9/23

AA 8918 CGK-HKG (Q) -- operated by Cathay
AA 138 HKG-DFW (Q)
AA 2325 DFW-ORD (Q)

Mileage:
ORD-DFW: 802
DFW-HKG: 8111
HKG-CGK: 2027
---------------
distance o/w: 10,940

add AA's "ASIA2" mileage promotion (register before travel, link) for another 5,000 miles for the DFW-HKG r/t

r/t mileage:

21,880 base miles (21,880 EQM) (10,940 EQP, because Q booking code)
5,000 bonus for ASIA2 promotion
-----
26,880 award miles = 3.41 cpm

if you are plat / EP, add 21,880 bonus miles (100% bonus on base miles) for a total of 48,760 award miles = 1.88 cpm

Personally, I wouldn't do it unless I could upgrade the AA metal segments. But still, this is a very nice find. Thanks for posting it.

Earnings per mile are always reported for EQM only. You may wasn't too revise your title.

Fare works from 8/24 until 10/23 for Monday through Thursday departures. Some Fri-Sun departures are available for $30-50 more.

Doesn't work from WAS or NYC. Haven't tried any others

I thought the legs operated by Cathay won't earn miles since they're in the Q fare class

It's a codeshare so they will earn as according to the AA operated mileage earning chart.

Not really unwritten. Mileage running is typically for elite status and not for RDM which can be bought cheaply without flying. Thanks for the great fare post though!

When I start at LAX, I can only route via NRT. Any way to get it to route hkg?

My calculations show that as originally posted this is 4.2cp(eq)m.

Also found availability out of ICT (Wichita) for ~$932 with some extra legs for a total of 22,964 miles or ~4.1cpm. Probably can find some days routing through HKG both ways for 90 eqm more and the 5,000 RDM bonus.
