I came back from a 3-night stay at the Marriott Suites in Atlanta, GA. I was able to use 2--$50 BBs and 1--$100 BB ($200 total) plus an EEO certificate (B1G1 Free)--a savings of $325.00. I tried using the Free Night Certificate, but due to the holiday rate of $109.00 two weekends ago, I wasn't allowed to use it.
Has anyone had the experience of using BBs, EEO certificates and the Free Night Certificate that you receive from applying for the Premier Card? |
Alect,
IMO 75K HHonors for 55K Marriott is a fair trade. On tCC I would also mention your Amex points as available for trade. U should also offer FF miles of an airline where U have extra--I'd say 30K FF for 55K Marriott. |

BB/PP Problem
A word of warning about using BB/PP. I just returned from an anytime reward stay of 7 days at the London County Hall and redeemed 3 100 Pound certs at check in to cover a couple of meals while I was there. The stay went great and at check out I had exactly one Pound owed on my bill (For an automatic charity donation that is attached to every stay). When I got back to the States and checked my Marriott Visa bill I had a charge for the 1 Pound, and then an additional charge for $570.87 (exchange rate for £300). A few days later I received a letter from the hotel that had my certs in it explaining that they decided not to accept them with on a stay paid for with 225,000 points. If they had told me that at check in I would not have spent the Pounds in the overpriced restaurant.

Try giving them this link, and tell them to book it with the code of GC306 |
It seems that you do better converting to US$ than Canadian $. Yesterday I got $173 CAD for a Premium Pounds certificate when the exchange rate on the Marriott website was $2.07 CAD per pound! That's $35 less - a hefty chunk!

FTers Jessej & Craz & I have all discussed this. Jessej staples a small note to each PP: "Punch the following into Marsha: OP/CCC/GB/100/US."
If outside the USA, change US to the 2 letter code for where you are: CA (or CN?) for Canada, etc. Amicus, your #1 above happens at Marriotts in American small- to medium-sized cities where the hotel does not exchange foreign cash currency. Hotels that do, do so as a convenience & usually deposit it to their local bank acct. the next day, so they are subject to the greediness of that bank :( . In Sep. 2005 The Stanford Court, A Renaissance Hotel in San Fran gave me $168.26 for my PP, while 2 days later the Sacramento Marriott Rancho Cordova gave me $184 per Marsha (Marriott's internal computer.) I suggested to a receptionist at the former that their GM should find a bank with fairer rates! |
Was that the Ottawa Marriott by chance?

Something else to look out for: I used a Premium Pound coupon at the Marco Island Marriott in Florida a few months back, and not only did they give me a poor exchange rate, but they charged me an "exchange" fee of $4.00. I didn't argue at the time, but I now realize how ridiculous that was. No reason you should be paying a "fee" to use a certificate that Marriott is promoting.

It's shocking in Canada, given that each Chartered Bank has forex traders in Toronto & or Montréal who set exchange rates for all its branches in eastern (or maybe all of) Canada, so the Ottawa Marriott can't blame the bad rate on its local TD, CIBC, or Scotiabank branch. The Ottawa Marriott sets that same bad rate for people spending or exchanging British cash there, & under T&C #12 or #4 has the right to use it for PPs & BBs.
But when PPs can be bought readily @C$50--55 each, we're still ahead of the deal :) ! |

Coupon valid until January 1, 2007 Brief T/C printed on front: EURO 50 Extra Euros Coupn good toward a future consecutive two (2) night paid stay at any Marriott Hotels & Resorts, JW Marriott Hotels & Resorts, Ren hotels & resorts, Courtyard, Res Inn, Sphill Stes, TP Stes or Fd Inn locations worldwide. To receive credit, coupon must be presented to the front desk at check-in. Credit must be established at check-in by presenting a valid VISA card as method of payment. Coupon cannot be accepted at gift shops or food and beverage outlets. See the reverse side for reservation information and terms and conditions. On the back, it itemized much of what was said above. As other posts indicated, valid date changes; I think they want you use the coup within 6 months. But Courtyard is a valid property that should accept this coupon. One post said the contrary. My question is: If I use this Euro based coupon in a US property, how do they figure the exchange rate? Have you encounter problem in using them? Thanks |
