So, almost like cash.

So, are government and AAA rates "publicly listed and available room rates?"

Should the hotel have taken my Marriott Cheques for my one night stay on a government rate? It was not a convention, travel industry, tour, advance purchase, etc.

It was one night on a reservation made personally by me. I had the proper government ID. The rate was $99 and they would not take my two $50 Marriott Cheques.

No
No
Government is a qualified rate and is not available to the public (hense the reason you needed to have ID)

Here's the resolution:

I got home and read the certificate with a fine tooth comb. There is nothing there that explicitly says you cannot use on an advance purchase rate. I called and was arguing, the supervisor tried to appease me with a $10 marriott card, but I told her unless it was for $31.25 (the amount that they refused to credit me). She said she couldn't do that so I asked to escalate. She said she would have to write it up and then someone would call me and that I couldn't be transferred right away.

Yesterday I get a message from that "someone" saying they are extremely sorry for all the hassle and inconvenience and that she had already instructed the hotel to credit my card the $31.25. This could either be that she was convinced by my argument or just a customer service decision that it wasn't worth the money to p*ss off a Platinum Member. Either way, situation was resolved in my favor.

Good to hear. I have a 4-night advance purchase in Montreal the end of July. I'm hoping to apply 2 PP at the hotel. I noted it in my reservation.

I am wondering, by the rules and regulations of BB/PB, if BB/PB can be used with M11/M12 rate. It looks like that the key is whether M11/M12 rate is publicly available (I think so because it is not negotiated rate, available to all Marriott rewards member), or not (probably because not all person (non-member) can get this rate). Is there anyway I can ask this to Marriott Rewards by email and get their (positive0 response, just in case I have trouble to use it at the hotel?

Did you have this stay yet? I was thinking of doing the same myself. Seems crazy to use my BB on a regular $149 rate for 2 nights when I can get the same price with M11 but also $100 new BB!!

Any updates on using BB on BB rate?

Interesting you should ask 10 minutes after I got off the phone with Marriott discussing that very matter. The agent assured me it was appropriate.

Anyone else run into Marriott's not accepting BB or PP or EE's?

Two places for me:

1) Grand Flora Rome Marriott - won't accept them

2) Fairfield Inn & Suites Orlando International Drive

The first one I'm sure about - was just there.

The second - I was told over the phone by reservations that they are not on the list of properties that accept them!

Bonus Bucks vs Cheques

I could not find a similar post, so I apologize if already out there.

The fine print on bonus bucks that catches my eye is one coupon per two-night stay. Does this mean I can use two coupons if staying 4 nights, and three coupons if staying 6 nights? The rule specifically states per two-night stay, so I imagine using multiple coupons is allowed. I thought my exisiting $100 Cheque was the way to go, but bonus bucks are plentiful and cheap on eBay. If I can round up $300 in vouchers for a 6-night stay, it seems logical to go with those and sell the cheque. Suggestions or corrections?

hhoope01 Jun 19, 2006 10:55 am

Yes, you shouldn't have any trouble using multiple coupons for stays. As long as you meet the minimum of 2 nights per coupon used and your rate allows it (i.e. not pre-paid, etc).

A search of the Marriott forum with the words "bonus" and "number" listed this thread which may be helpful in understanding the whens/hows of their use :) :

Use 3 BBs on the 6-nighter + try to use the Cheque, which is supposedly usable as cash, which may overrule the No Other Certificates' rule on the BBs.
If the hotel says No, then sell the Cheque on Ebay or save it for next time.
