Room Type Guarantee?

I checked into the Renaissance here in Zurich and was given a room on the non-concierge floor. I am a gold member (but have been plat for most of the last 6 years) and brought this to their attention, but was told my room (correct room type - NS King) was better than what was available on the concierge floor. I was tired so I settled with that, and it was a very nice room. Huge! They assured me that I would be moved the following day. The next morning, I was moved (they did this for me as I had to be away all day) to a concierge level floor, but not my room type.

I have been told, again, to bring this to the attention of the front desk staff in the morning. I am here for some time and want to unpack....

What would you all do?

jc, I think that Socrates posted once upon a time, (not sure if it was before his self imposed excile and deleted all his many years of valuable post) that the determining factor in the type of room you get is the room listed in your profile. In other words, it sounds like you did not get upgraded to the C floor because they did not have that room type available on the C floor, even if they had rooms available on the C floor. If you then requested the C floor over your room preference, it sounds like they moved you to the first room they had free.

I'm not sure I would do anything at this point other than thank them for moving you as requested, and then ask if you could be moved one more time to your requested room type on the C floor

Technically, the Room Type Guarantee only applies to rooms within North America for Gold-level members, so you wouldn't expect to receive compensation.

Did you specifically reserve a concierge-level room? If not, you could speak to the front desk about this. Also, mention the fact that you were shuttled around to different rooms, causing inconvenience.

As a Gold you would have had C-lounge access anyways.

I have had good experiences in the past with Ren Zurich staff, so I'm sure you'll have some positive response to your concerns.

You are correct...you didn't mention if they gave you access to the lounge but as a gold member you should always have access even if not on the floor

Yeah, they did get me the lounge access card, but the staff in the lounge already knew me by now and never verified it. I wasnt as concerned with the lounge access as much as the question about the room type. And I truthfully would not have complained anyway. I was mostly just curious.

Today, when returning to the hotel, Katarina, before I even said anything to her, handed me a new room key for everything that I requested. I am impressed with this group of employees and her. They had moved all of my (already packed) bags for me and taken care of the room change perfectly.

I am very happy with the resolution (and the new room! its great!)

Thanks all!
