Cancel Marriott Chase now or wait and "upgrade" card in May?

Has anyone cancelled the old card, reapplied and actually received the 100k yet? I read the entire thread and, unless I missed it, I didn't see an actual success story of cancelling the existing card and re-applying to receive the 100k bonus.
A number of posts said to wait 30-60 days. I canceled my old card June 2 after having the card for about 5 years. We now know that the 100k signup bonus ends Jul 5 and I want to ensure I can actually receive the 100k signup bonus since it gets me LTP/LTPP under the new program. I now see that the that the card says "closed" in my account, but still appears in my account. I am waiting to pull my annual credit reports as well until closer to July 5. How do we KNOW when its safe to apply for the new card?

My wife cancelled her card on April 28 (which had a zero balance at the time). This was done after I had spoken to a CSR and a credit specialist at Chase.. They both looked at her account and stated that since she had not had a signup bonus in the last 2 years (it's actually been over 5 years) she would be eligible for the 100k bonus on the new card BUT she had to wait 30 days before applying for the new one. On June 2 she applied online for the new card. After completing the application and submitting it she received a message telling her it had been received and she would hear back via the mail as to the decision on her application. It was not what we expected at all. She has an excellent credit rating, she is within the boundaries of the 5/24 Chase rule, income is fine, etc, etc, etc so we expected approval then. She was traveling last week so she didn't have a chance to call Chase about what was going on. She was going to call yesterday but decided to look at her Chase account first. What she saw was the new card (with a new account number) is now included in her Chase account. The limit on the card is also much higher than the old card. Still no word from Chase. We are assuming the 100k bonus is now payable to her once the spend requirement is met. If nothing is heard by tomorrow she will be calling to find out what is going on. She is 200k away from LTPP so we're watching all of this closely. I will update as things occur.
Since you can see the new card on her online account now, I recommend sending a secure message to Chase asking them to verify the bonus and asking the date that you need to complete the spending by to get the bonus. In my experience, it is actually better to get the response in writing rather than speaking to a phone agent.
Congrats on the new card!

Actually, it is very common to get the message, "We have received your request for a Chase credit card. We'll let you know our decision by U.S. mail. This could take up to 30 days." I have gotten this multiple times and then had the card show up in my online account within hours of applying. So don't worry about that. If you do an internet search on it, you will find this is very common.

Thanks for the reminder about the secure message system with Chase. I'll send them a message as soon as I get done here.

Cancelled my existing card today after being a cardholder for about 7 years, I was waiting for my annual cert and 15 nights to post. I’m going to wait until a few days before the end of the promo before applying for the new one.

My anniversary date is Mid-Sept. Do I wait for the old anniversary cert to come AND then accept the offer (30k to upgrade, have till Dec).
If I upgrade now, I wont receive anything for a year?
Also the new reward is 35k points? But the new Cat 5 is either 30k (off-peak) or 40k(peak). So isnt it a lower award?

It was straight from the Marriott.com website. I tried to snip a pic of it, but it didn't post correctly. Here's the link...

Did the same exact thing. Anniversary cert and nights posted a few days ago. Used the cert on an upcoming stay. Called up customer service and cancelled the card. The rep advised me to wait 48 hours for everything to take on the IT side of things. Applied for the card two days later and said I should get it 7-10 days. So far so good.

I have the Marriott and Ritz cards. If I cancel the Marriott card, and reapply, will having the ritz card stop me from being approved?
