Put aside all the macro data analysis aside though. I retired from 20 years of business travel and 100% Marriott 3 years ago and was left with 400,000 in points and LTP.

True story, for a year now I was planning on taking my new Greek wife to the Domes for week when our baby got just a bit older and a week at he NYC JW Essex where I had a few nice one night stays on business . Guess which 2 properties got slammed? If you are able to or want to travel to some 4000+ properties the data may make sense. My situation is screwed, as predicted.
Come on, now. You’ve known since fall 2016 that Marriott was going to shake things up when it merged finally into a new loyalty program with SPG. You’ve had almost 2 full years to book your fantasy getaway. Everyone expected that the merged programs would start in 2018, so you’ve actually had a year extra to book. You didn’t book. That’s not Marriott’s fault.

Instead of being screwed now, perhaps consider that you now have available even more luxurious options with the new SPG portfolio. Take her to the Hotel Imperial Vienna and be amazed that it’s not a Cat 8 hotel. Your Marriott LTP status now will make you LTPP—even higher status than you had. And that status comes with automatic suite upgrade benefits that never existed for you previously. So you may end up all the better than you might have guessed.
