In fact, if you go to the desk (B05 is the one you're looking for), you'll usually get a private car ride rather than the regular shuttle. It picks you up from the limousine area (a much shorter walk). This has always worked for me (including just this week), and in fact as a lowly Gold, there's someone waiting to meet me at the hotel entrance when the car gets there, and the check-in is done in my room. I've had in-room check-ins at Sheraton hotels in India as a platinum, and the Sky City Marriott Hong Kong as a gold. Makes you feel pretty special :-)

BTW, if you get the full treatment, including a direct escort to the room from your attendant, it is customary to have some cash ready for a tip.
The first time it happened to me, I was arriving from Thailand and wasn't prepared with local currency. Just FYI

Arriving from Seattle at 8:15 PM on a Tuesday and departing to Taipei 1:25 PM Wednesday. Is it recommended to stay at this property (I've already booked with points) or another Marriott/Starwood property?

If you just need a crash place for the layover, the SkyCity Marriott is a pretty ideal. Close by the airport and great service.
But if you are looking at spending time outside the hotel during the layover, it is probably better to stay in town.

Is this a new perk? I've been at this hotel three times, though not in a few years, and I never had that kind of treatment as either platinum or gold (my current status).

Then at the hotel entrance the Head Person handles elite guests was waiting for us at the entrance. She then escorted us to our room, and processed the check in at our room. This happened each time.
I dont believe one should tip the escort as she is in a supervisory / managerial position, just as one would not tip a FD manager or a Lounge Manager. Though one may opt to tip the private car driver if one has a ton of bags. For us only having 2 rollers, we have not tipped the driver. In fact the tipping thing did not even occurred in our mind.

Yes, I agree. I saw that comment up thread and thought it was odd and not something that I find typical for this situation and region.

Interesting comments on the tipping. I had 2 staff members with me, escorted from the hotel entrance to my room. They did not strike me as "supervisors or managers", but more of a concierge / hostess type of role.
I got a definite vibe of tip expectation from them, once I was in the room and they had (without any real prompting) gave a short tour/review of the suite.
I can't recall if they carried my bags. I typically would decline an offer anyway, as I am used to keeping them with me and I pack light.

AFAIK Hong Kong salary structure is not based on tipping, of course people don't mind getting $ but I really don't think it's necessary (as we are already paying 10% service charge in our bills).

What are the hours for the club lounge evening spread here? I land at 615pm and hoping to make it to the lounge to check it out before happy hour finishes. Anyone know?
