Legacy to New Travel Package Conversion (effective August 2019)
A Marriott supervisor can currently convert your legacy travel package into the new category mapping. If you hold a Category 6, 8, or Tier 1-3 legacy certificate, it's ideal to downgrade your certificate before converting so that points don't potentially get lost in the process.

The codes for the new partial packages are:
New Cat 1-4: QP83
New Cat 5: QP91
New Cat 6: QP99
New Cat 7:

  • Select “Packages - Deals” from the “Topic” drop down menu
  • Submit your request

The legacy certificates map to the new certificates as such:
Cat 1-5 => Cat 1-4
Cat 6 => Cat 1-4
Cat 7 => Cat 5
Cat 8 => Cat 5
Cat 9 => Cat 6
Tier 1-3 => Cat 6
Tier 4-5 => Cat 7
==================================================

If you are unsure where you will use your 7 night stay, when you request the package, just ask for a category 1-5 hotel. That way you are out of the least number of points. If later, you decide to book for a higher level category, then you can do so and pay the difference the travel package points. If you can't use your certificate within the year, then as close to the one year anniversary (without going over!) call to extend the certificate for one more year. That's as long as they will typically allow, one extension. There is an option to expedite the mileage delivery to within three business days (sometimes faster) for $15. There are reports that this fee may be waived for platinum members.

Effective April 1 2017 re: Southwest & the companion pass:

"Purchased points, points converted from hotel and car loyalty programs, and e-Rewards, e-Miles, Valued Opinions and Diners Club, points earned from Rapid Rewards program enrollment, tier bonuses, flight bonuses, and partner bonuses (excluding points bonuses earned on the Rapid Rewards Credit Cards from Chase) do not count toward Companion Pass."

Can I book SPG properties with my Marriott Travel Package? As of 9/1/2018 apparently not. see https://www.flyertalk.com/forum/30155836-post6529.html

It can be expidited to 3 days, apparently for a small fee. As a Platinum Elite, the agent said my points would post within 3 days when I redeemed yesterday. There was no mention of any fee.

I am ready to redeem some packages for united. Do I need to do anything to get the 10% bonus miles or simply call 1-800-321-7396? Thanks.

I don’t want to call Marriott in case they change my package to 7 nights.
I also had a TP for AS miles on July 1st and haven't got the miles either. Agent on the phone told me to wait for about 1-2 weeks.

Actually, After the agent processed the redemption, I asked if I can get it expedited he said it was $15 which I agreed to pay but he couldn’t expedite it and said he could talk to a supervisor but honestly I was afraid the supervisor would force a 7 nights package instead so I thanked him and accepted the normal processing. I’m in no rush but it’s kind of annoying not to see your alaska # anywhere to confirm miles were sent to the right account. I will wait and see what happens. Hopefully it posts this week.

I just got the miles... probably you should check again.

excellent me too. Thanks for the update. Now I’m all set regardless of what happens to the 5 nights certificate. My 235k Marriott points would have gotten me just 93k Alaska but the agent was nice enough to enable me to get 120k alaska and 5 nights category 1-5 certificate. Now, even if they cancel my certificate and add points to my account, I already got more than my points.

Can’t be a bigger case of wishful thinking than the other posters who’ve “confirmed” this with MR reps, can it?

In any case, my point was that for those who don’t have immediate uses for their certificates, there’s no real downside to doing this, and only potential upside (however small they may be).

The old Cat 6 will map to the new Cat 4. Just look at what all the hotel category changes are. That is my guess, anything better than Cat 4 will be a bonus.

It's always a good idea to note the name of the CSR and the date and time you talked with him or her (and a summary of what was said), but I'd be cautious about recording the call. Depending on what state you're in, state law may require BOTH parties to consent to the recording (remember the trouble Linda Tripp reportedly got into recording Monica's telephone calls). Here's an article that may be of assistance: GoLocalProv | LEGAL MATTERS: Can You Tape Record a Phone Call?

Now, if the answering robot says (as they often do) "This call may be recorded" I would argue that, even though they're probably talking about themselves recording the call, the statement is permission for you to do so as well.

The old Cat 6 is kind of a new Cat 4 1/2. If the convert you to a 4, I'd expect a 30,000 point refund. If they convert you to a 5, they did you a solid.
