Has anyone's bonus Aeroplan miles posted yet?
|
Just checking in to make sure my way of thinking is correct.
I have a 7 night stay in HKG coming up I have to book, so I figured I'll look into the travel packages. In Canada, so I'm comparing: 180'000 Amex MR = 90'000 SPG = 270k Marriott = 120'000 Alaska + 7 Nights Cat1-5 (though I'd probably upgrade to Cat6 to use the CY Hong Kong, so let's go with: 200'000 Amex MR = 100'000 SPG = 300k Marriott = 120'000 Alaska + 7 Nights @ CY Hong Kong vs 200'000 Amex MR = e.g. 200'000 Aeroplan + pay Cash for 7 nights Assuming AS miles are worth, say 25% more than AP, that's still the equivalent of ~150k so essentially I'm hoping I get more than 50'000 worth of AP miles out of the 7 nights. Assuming ~ 1.5cents per AP mile, that's about 750USD, so 107USD/Night. So... using the travel packages is worth it if I don't find a satisfactory hotel for less than 107USD/night. ...Correct thinking? |
If all your previous assumptions are correct then you're valuing 50k Aeroplan miles at $750 which indeed means the effective replacement of a Marriott 7-night cert should redeem at $107/night to come out evens.
I value a Marriott point at 1UScent, hence a 7-night Cat6 cert should come in at $250/nt but in practice the lack of flexibility incumbent in these certificates mean I value them at half their point value, $125/nt, which I find easy to obtain. Your $107/nt opportunity cost should therefore come out on top here $-for-$ pretty easily. Normally I would say here to choose carefully and that cert could redeem for $200/nt, but 7-night vacations frequently have little true flexibility which goes back to the reason I value the certificates so lowly... |

You can also transfer them to AA and get 150,000 miles.
https://www.flyertalk.com/forum/amer...age-miles.html and okay! Now, to decide whether I can find something cheaper than 107/night and just pay cash or go travel package.... technically I also have to factor in the value of points I get from a cash booking but.... yeah. The CY HKG actually HAS 7 continuous days available for reward rooms on the exact days I'm going for so flexibilty isnt a concern atm. |

If your middle name is on your Southwest account, do you need it added to your Marriott account, in order to match for transfer?

My SWA RR account has my middle name on it. My Marriott Rewards account has no middle name on it. My points posted without issue in my SWA RR account when I redeemed a MR Travel Package last week. ^

Based on their T & Cs they should post within 4 - 6 weeks of April 17. That means they should post by May 29th at the latest. Hopefully it'll be before then.

Can the Travel packages be used to book SPG properties some time next year? What category does Luxury Collection and St. Regis be in, if it is already decided? Thanks.
