I don't think it will work, but it's worth a try.

It won't work either. The discount occurs when ordering a 5 night award cert. Not when ordering a 2 or 3 night award. Your only option to get 2 free award nights when using a TP award is to order a 5 night award which will only cost you 4 nights worth of points.

You don't get a free night when ordering a 2 or 3 night award no matter when you plan on using it.

People, it's really quite simple.

No further "free" nights when using the TP 7-nights.

A few questions on travel packages:

I have about 600,000 MR points and was looking to do something at a resort in the Caribbean or Hawaii. My understanding is that if I find a place that offers standard rooms for all 7 nights i Intend to stay, I can use the appropriate category certificate for those nights.

My questions:
  • Are resort fees additional?
  • When booking online with MR points, many offer +$ for suites/ocean view rooms, is it possible to upgrade or book better rooms with points, or by using a higher category value certificate?
  • If not possible to upgrade with points (and realizing YMMV), do resorts typically offer upgraded rooms to platinum guests?

Appreciate any insight!

Here's my question (read a couple dozen page or so):
My wife just got her SPG account, so she can't transfer to my SPG < 30 days.
I tried Google-ing, but can't find the answer.

Can she create a Marriott account, transfer her SPG to her Marriott
Call the number to transfer from her Marriott to my Marriott and pay the $10 fee
All within a few (2-4) days?

Short answer is yes.

Long answer is depending how much you want to transfer over. If it is more than 50K Marriott points, you need to make a reservation that required the exact amount, to the nearest 1000, of points by combination your existing balance.

Thanks. I did create an account for her and was trying to find the "link" to the SPG, but when I checked the activity, I have this:

03/17/17 Bonus The date of your last qualifying activity was 03/18/17. TRANSFER FROM MY SPG ACCOUNT 132,000 points

Is this a glitch? First of all, she only has 25K SPG, which would be 75K Marriott (I'd only need 32K) - but then it was dated yesterday and automatic.

Try logging out and back in or a different browser. Mine didn't refresh till I did that. Also FYI my dad transferred 80k over to my MR account for a rez to make up the difference in my balance. I canceled it and used the points for a travel package ultimately. We did a conference call with Marriott and the points posted to my account instantly.

Oh yeah, I logged back in and it reflected what was really transferred, 0.

Is there a reason I can't link my Marriott to her SPG?

You can't link her MR to your SPG. You can link her MR to her SPG and then transfer her SPG points to your SPG.

I may be misunderstanding your question.

The linkage of accounts have to be the SAME account holder name on both MR and SPG.

The transfer between accounts can happen between different account holder names either on the MR side or on the SPG side. i.e. 2 different MR accounts can transfer pts between them. 2 different SPG accounts can transfer pts between them. (provided all the requirements are met) But a MR account cannot transfer to a SPG account when the account holder's names are different.

So it cannot a X (cross over) transfer. Need to go thru the extra step.

A couple of points:
* I wanted to use a package with the Krisflyer option. They told me the transfer would take 1-2 weeks and there is no way to expedite it. Does anyone have any data points about transfers to Krisflyer? Shame on me for not being more proactive to beat the devaluation.
* I added the travel package to my dream rewards and tried to redeem online, but I kept getting errors. So I picked up the phone and when navigating through the option I picked 'reservations'. This is probably a mistake as two different agents said they cannot do this for me - I had to be connected to the MR department.

Is there a way to upgrade and reserve a higher type room while using a TP?

Not sure why this is so hard, but trying to actually use the 7-day package is there anyway to book online? I called the reservation line and the CSR didn't even know what it was. Who do I need to call to book a stay with a TP cert?
