I got 2 packages on the 30 of May and still waiting :(
Thinking about doing another but not sure if I will get the bonus points in time.
Anyone know what date they count it from?

AA site says it counts when you initiate the transfer so that is a bit of a relief, still time left. Quite annoying that these travel packages are so variable in transfer times. Can't argue with the value though.

I want to redeem my points for a travel package but I am not sure which airline should I redeem my points for. I am based in New York city and from Shenzhen, China.

DL: It's very easy to redeem miles for flights. But the miles itself don't value as much as other carriers.

AA: The requirement for business/first class between China and US is ridiculous...

UA: Honestly they had the worst service and hardware according to my experience and my friends'. But it is easy to redeem with them....

AS: The best value for miles but I read quite a mount of posts saying that phantom problems...

so... which airline should I do my travel package for?

Cashed in TP on Thursday afternoon and 150K AA miles showed up this morning. 5 days including weekend is about what I expected and not bad IMO.

My AA points also arrived today. Took 6.5 days. Seems they may post them in batches maybe.

Think about what alliance offers you the greatest opportunity for where you want to travel. In Alaska's case, since it isn't part of an alliance, think about whether its partners would work. For me, UA has the best range of partners, particularly in and out of Europe. AA is my backup. I don't use AA/BA into Europe because of its hefty fuel surcharges.

Haven't received mine yet. Probably the next batch. Hope it soon as my award hold ends on sat

What do you mean by "combine"? Usually people mean "I want to stay in one room the whole time," which is best handled by calling the hotel shortly before your arrival.

Yes,
If I have 2 certs from my account booked for nights 1-14 and then another reservation from a friemds account for nights 15-28, is there a way to combine into one reservation so I dont have to change rooms?
Sounds like the answer is no and I just need to call the hotel and have them run back to back. I just dont want to have to recheck in and out.

Thank you for your reply.

I did think about my requirement for places that I want to travel. I'll always have demands to fly JFK-HKG since I am from a city few hours away from Hong Kong.

So for Alaska, 70k miles for Cathay first class is almost the best option. However, I have read posts saying sometime BA can see the availability but can't with AS; To fly Hainan airline to go back to Shenzhen, I have also read posts saying they were able to locate fares on the AS website but wasn't able to book it due to website errors. They tried to call the customer service but it's the same problem. I believe the system in Alaska has some serious problems.

I guess I could redeem cathay pacific via AA... But the first class award has gone up to 110k which is not worthy when you have AS.

UA is something I am considering cuz the partner airlines they have. 7K for business and 11K/13k first class to Asia is good but still a bit pricy compare with AS.

I guess my hesitation is on the uncertain of AS system performance. If their system is working as expected, I would put my travel package on them.

Best to do it is to email the hotel AFTER you have made the reservation. You can add notes in the reservations to cross reference each other.

We ALWAYS booked our multi-nights stay with single night reservations to preserve flexibility. Have about 60 to 70 hotel nights each year among major chains. NEVER need to move room. Some hotels proactively merge the multiple reservations together before we arrive. Some hotels handle it at check in. Always are able to stay in the same room even reservations made from different accounts, and switched back and forth between accounts (to get the stay credits). Worked every single time.

Hi.
Can you redeem a travel package for a standard room and use an upgrade cert on the same room?
I'm looking to book the grande vista. A villa shows available for redemption plus 1 upgrade cert per night... Can I book that with a travel package, and exchange some more points to upgrade?
An upgrade cert is 2000 points per night?? Is that right??

joshua362 Jun 9, 2017 6:55 am

5,000 per bedroom per night.

Can you even book the hotel portion of a TP online?

IDK but it seems reasonable to add, do call and find out and let us know if you can.

As already mentioned, the upgrades are 5K/night/cert.

And yes, you can use them with a TP hotel award. I have an upcoming award stay using a TP cert and upgraded to an Oceanfront suite room. Note that this upgrade took more than 1 upgrade cert per night. I made the reservation online, but had to call the Plat line to get the TP award linked and the correct # of upgrade certs added.
