Taste of Gold/Platinum
You are given gold/platinum status for 90 days, and you must complete a certain number of nights/stays to retain that status for the remainder of the year plus the following year. This promotion is targeted only.

Road to Gold/Platinum (a.k.a. Gold/Platinum Challenge)
Currently, this will allow you to move up one level with a shortened stay criteria. You have 90 days to complete 6/9 stays to receive Gold/Platinum status. If you do no qualify, you are eligible to start another challenge one year and one day after the 90th day of the challenge you just did. When you sign up, the MR CSR should tell you the date you are eligible to do another challenge.

FAQ

Q: What qualifies as a stay?
A: One paid night at a Marriott-brand (including Ritz-Carlton Hotels) hotel. Cash+points rate does not qualify. SPG hotels does not qualify (as of 03/2017). Some exclusions may apply, someone please help fill this in.

Q: Can I simply book multiple, consecutive one-night stays at the same hotel?
A: No.

Q: Can I jump between multiple Marriotts in the area?
A: Yes. As long as you book at least one night at each property. Special care must be taken if the Marriott properties are next to each other. They may share the same back-office. While you may book one night at each property on consecutive nights, which should count as two stays, it may only count as one stay. A call to Marriott Rewards should split them up correctly.

Q: Can I book multiple nights at different properties for the same night to get multiple stay credits?
A: No. Regardless how many different places you book for the same night, it all counts as one stay.

Q: Can I sign up for both Gold and Platinum Challenges at the same time?
A: No. Only one challenge per year.

Q: I'm Silver, can I do the Platinum challenge?
A: No. This is only a one-level promotion. You are only eligible for the Gold challenge.

Q: Can a non-elite do the Gold Challenge
A: No. Must be Silver.

Q: I just completed my 6th/9th stay. When should I see my new status?
A: Good job! Your new status should appear after your 6th/9th stay posts to your account.

Q: Can I book a meeting to get a stay credit?
A: No. You will only receive 10 night credits, not a stay credit.

It's not complicated. Rollover nights are an incentive to go beyond the minimum of what it take to requalify for what you had last year. Why would they want to incentivize you to do less?

I had silver in 2010.

And you're also telling me that a Plat that does not requalify at the Plat level does not receive ANY rollover nights?

Yep. That's the way it has been since they started rollovers.

If that's the policy, then whatever - it doesn't affect me either way. But I still fail to see why last year's status should have any bearing on how rollover is calculated. You keep saying that Marriott shouldn't incentivize you not to re-qualify, but why should that incentive be limited to your current status. I mean, the point of any promotion is just to get business you otherwise wouldn't have had, right?

If I'm a plat, and know I am only staying 30 nights this year, I have less incentive to give nights 11-30 to Marriott if I am not getting roll those nights (but if I'm a silver, those nights do roll?). Again, that may very well be the policy, and Marriott may well have a reason for it - but I sure don't understand it.

But some poeple see it as an incentive to stay LESS. A gold might say, why shouldn't I only stay 49 nights and roll over 39? Marriott wants anyone who typically stays 50 or more to shoot for 50 and maybe even a little more. They don't want to incentivize someone to try for a little less this year.

Has anyone had their rollover nights post yet?

I had more than 75 nights. The >75 nights do not show for 2011, there is no rollover line in the night summary.

I had 11 nights (>75) rollover from 2009 to 2010.

I do not believe anyone who did not PM Marriott concierge has had their rollover nights rollover. IT is an exception granted only to those who ask, via that channel. Those who have PMed have generally reported success.

Plat challenge without getting my rollover nights yet...issue?

Hey guys,

I might have jumped the gun on this one. So I hit 74 nights last year on purpose so I could roll over 24.

I still haven't seen those nights in my account yet, which made me sort of nervous. I perhaps foolishly decided to do the Platinum challenge anyway.

My question is, do you think the Marriott System will somehow ignore those nights now since 74 is less than the required # for my current status?

I hope my impatience didn't actually mess me up.

Gold / Plat challenge valid till Feb 2012 or 2013 if taken now ??

Hi Folks,

I have few stays coming up and lucklily a Marriot property ( Marriot Tverskaya, moscow) is one of those approved in my corporate rate. ^

I will be having around 20-25 nights in 2 months and I wanted to take up the Gold / Plat challenge.
What I want to know is if we take up the challenge now and it goes for 3 months, then if we fulfill the no of nights required, does our Gold / Plat status extends till Feb 2012 or 2013 ?? I am asking this since I see other threads where its states that folks have taken the challenge in Aug / Sept 2010 and their status was till Feb 2012 ..
So is the status extended till whole of next year ( which in my case will be 2013) or it still remains only till Feb 2012 ??

Appreciate any advise.

thanks
Abhi

I just enrolled in the Platinum Challenge(thanks to everyone on this site) and this is the email I received:

>Thank you for your reply.

>I would be happy to extend an offer to you to conditionally upgrade your status to the Platinum Elite level. This new status would be valid until the following terms have been met.
>
>You must stay 18 paid nights beginning with the date the offer is accepted, through May 31, 2011.
>
>Once you have stayed 18 paid nights, the Platinum Elite status will be extended until February 2013. To retain this status for all of 2013, you would need to stay the qualifying number of nights during 2012. The Silver Elite level requires 10 personal paid nights, the Gold Elite level requires 50 personal paid nights, and the Platinum Elite level requires 75 personal paid nights.
>
>Should you be unable to stay the 18 paid nights during this trial period, your account would be returned to your original status, and you would need to stay the normal night requirements to regain this Platinum Elite level.

aha.. great.. thanks for sharing.
So this means status if we qualify will be till Feb 2013 ^

So this makes taking up the gold challenge much better than the other ''Chinese'' and ''HSBC'' challenge going on since for an addl 4 nights, our golkd status extends for 1 more year ..

Red face Impending Platinum Challenge Failure! Help!

Confident that I would have 20 or more nights in the next 90 days, I requested a Platinum challenge with Marriott. My schedule has changed, and with it some of my company-chosen hotels have changed, leaving me with only 13 nights to be completed at Marriott properties before the challenge ends June 30th. (20/20 hindsight: I should have settled for the 12-night Gold challenge)
Any opinions on whether paying to mattress run five more nights for Marriott Platinum is worth it? And where can I find the cheapest rates for such a run? (i keep seeing FTers mention $49/night Marriotts - no idea where they are)
Its only through FT that I ever found out about these challenges, so I hope FT can help.

Two options that can get you night many nights quickly are:
1. Sign up for a Marriott Rewards Visa -- I signed up for the Premier version and got 15 nights added to my account plus 30K points
2. Host a meeting and get 10 nights per meeting. Depending on the property a 1-2 hour meeting room is only $100.

You might want to check with Marriott Rewards Customer Service to confirm that either of the above is sufficient to meet your minimum number of nights.
