Just noticed this language on the profile preferences page:
Complimentary newspapers are available in hotel lobbies Monday through Friday, and may be delivered to your door each morning depending on your particular brand or location.
This could mean, contrary to the OP, that properties only need to make some sort of newspaper available in the lobby 5 days a week and that different properties under the same brand can do as they please in terms of delivery. That would explain a lot.

Hello,

We are aware that there are inconsistencies at some properties and are working to correct them as soon as we can. Over the next few week, headquarters will be conducting audits and property surveys to pinpoint where the breakdown is occurring so we can provide fixes where needed.

Some properties have reported that member profiles may not have the correct newspaper information listed-so double check your profiles to confirm that your preferences are updated.

I will keep you posted on the progress that we are making with this change.

Thanks for the feedback and I will do my best to find an answer for you.

Regards,

Kate

I checked my profile and WSJ is selected, yet I haven't received a WSJ at my room in months. Normally it's the USA Today if I am lucky.

Marriott Concierge has this policy changed? THe GM here at Austin Marriott South says that Corp. has changed this and they no longer deliver papers, even to Plat. on concierge floor.

Yes...I have USAT in my profile...and in the last 3 FS hotels i have not received one...the last hotel i was in, there were some WSJs on the CL, but no USAT....I did get one, the attendant in the lounge hunted one down for me.

This is one of the most ridiculous changes made...yes i know people read the news on line, blah blah. I STILL like a paper..call me old fashioned (or old..whatever!)

If it is IN MY PROFILE that I want a paper, I WANT A PAPER...outside my door! (Even in select service or whatever they call them these days!)

ok....off the newpaper soapbox...

I agree completely. I like to have the paper to liesurely read on the balcony on vacation, or on the plane when travelling. Additionally, I don't want to pay $15 for internet access to read it online. Bring back my paper. Even though it is in my profile, I have not received one on most of my recent stays.

I did not receive any newspaper delivery on 3 recent stays at:
Ren Montura (LAX)
JW MR Resort & Spas (Las Vegas), and
MR LAX

I don't think I have to remind the hotels about this. It is in my profile preferring WSJ

Hello Mr. Radioinstl:

Full-service hotels should deliver a newspaper to your room, provided you have a newspaper preference on your MR profile. Select-service brands, such as Courtyard, Residence Inn, etc., are required only to make papers available in the lobby.

I have to qualify that response a little by saying it's possible this particular hotel is part of a small test market that's trying out a different policy, but if so I'm not aware of it. As far as I know, they should delivery a paper to your room if you have it on your profile.

I'm sorry for the confusion; please let me know if you have any other questions.

Alexander

Well, based on the comments here, either the test market is larger than Alexander's been led to believe or FTers here have been lucky enough to find and stay at just those few test hotels.

So, no progress on this problem since 9/21/09, I guess.

I was at the Marriott Marquis in Atlanta for 6 nights. On the days I should have had a paper, only twice did I not have to call to get the WSJ delivered despite that being in my profile. On check-out, I complained about this problem and was told that the hotel ONLY delivers News-lite. I told the clerk I thought that was totally insufficient for a "Marquis" hotel. She meekly agreed.

I was going to give props to the Columbus Marriott NW for not screwing this up on my last stay, but then I realized that nobody should be screwing this up.

Still no progress on this problem since 9/21/09.

About a week ago, I spent five nights at a full-service property and received no newspaper delivery of any kind. Papers were available only in the C-lounge.

Last week at an ATL area FS, I got nothing Thursday AM but a WSJ Friday. Go figure! Everyone, from Marriott Corp to the local property, is effectively telling us via their actions that this is something they are no longer interested in providing on a reliable basis...

I don't see where there has been an update from Marriott - but currently at a full service Marriott in Fort Lauderdale and they said they don't have papers on the weekend.

Although I haven't had a newspaper at any Marriott's (including mid-week) at SFO Marriott, San Fran Marriott Marquis, LAX Ren, etc.

Marriott continues to cut back on Elite benefits. Why or why are they giving Gold for free to the millions of UA Premier Golds.
