I have been looking at going back to the hotel this summer and as I expect it to be busy, I would be looking to pay for at least the minimum level room I would be ok with. Out of season, they are pretty reasonable with upgrades and it is just corporate events that can hurt the upgrade chances as happened on my last stay.
It is a nice hotel though. The Breakfast is pretty decent too.

Yea. I saved my SPG points and SNA
The discussions on this thread alone are overwhelmingly negative about the hotel, especially in comparison to the pair of Hyatt's. While my DSU won't be used on a pure points stay - there are some basic things I have found that the Hyatt in Nice offers that the Le Meridien just isn't willing to. I don't have to pick and choose like I do at the SPG hotel.
-Free breakfast for diamonds (delivered to room if i want)
-Welcome amenity as well
-The room on points at the very least comes with a balcony
-the hotel just went its transformation to a Hyatt property in 2013 and should be nice still
-The hotel itself is way more appealing from the exterior (compared to the LM). The Palais de la Mediterranean seems to have quite a bit of history behind it. Meanwhile the LM has a McDonalds and trashy looking casino.
-In addition to that, no one on this thread really had much for positive things to say about the LM....

It can be a very busy hotel and in peak times, you may struggle to get a decent upgrade. They do look after Plats, but they can only work with the inventory they have to work with at the time.

LPdM also has a trashy casino downstairs. The pictures look great, but it isn't as nice as they lead you to believe. Having said that, I stayed there before it became a Hyatt. If you want proper class, pick Le Negresco over the two.

The Le Meridien Nice is noted by Ben S. as being a bit rough on the outside, and a quick Google Maps leaves an ugly impression. You have to go to the side of the building to find the proper entrance (the one that doesn't look like a circus entrance).

The Hyatt, even if it does have a casino, does a way better job of presenting itself on the exterior. In addition to having better amenities; but at 2x the redemption cost - it should be nicer.
For a moment, I wondered why this LM Nice was priced so low, but Google Maps really explains it well.

The Hyatt is outrageously wicked with its Art Deco style, that seems to present itself as modern art deco. And Diamonds get a 2 hour open bar, which has several data points of (2) individuals being able to consume between $140-330 worth of beverages in said time (at $23 or $27 a glass of champagne, it seems pretty easy to do).
Anyways, enough down talking SPG here. The LM looks nice for 12k, and I really do love the pictures of the rooms that have a decent view, as others noted - the classic rooms here do not offer what we want in a room (and a classic is the only room you can get on points, I inquired about a suite/upgraded room). The price was also pretty attractive at the LM too, you could definitely find a lot of inexpensive nights here when I was looking.

Yes, LPdM looks nice on the outside, but it's nothing amazing on the inside. Neither is the LM, fwiw. As a Diamond I'm sure you won't get the internal "courtyard" (rooftop with garbage bins) views on a 400+€ rate as I did, though

We will see. I am on points and I am also staying September 1st ($470 US dollars/NT).
To keep this thread SPG focused; The Le Meridien was a bargain price wise (half the cost for a classic room). And the location still remains one of the best in Nice.
I bet this rubs Starwood tho - with Hyatt having 2 other hotels on Riviera that are very much so competing with the traffic that would be heading to either of the Le Meridiens.

Have stayed there last weekend (Saturday to Monday) on points plus SNAs. 12000 points per night is an excellent value, provided you're upgraded to at least an outside room. Have used SNA and got assigned a Panoramic Junior Suite 5 days before arrival, which was ready for check-in at 10.00am as requested with a Y24 before the upgrade was processed although the hotel looked to run at fairly high occupancy. Got breakfast voucher for full breakfast plus 500 points welcome amenity.
Didn't like the room scent they seem to spraying in the halls, but other than that no complaints.

Just went to the restaurant that serves the breakfast. Simply wanted a tea and coffee to take to my room, they were unable to comply saying they did not have "take out" and that I need to call room service. I walked away before I completely flipped out!

Checked in today, booked a classic room and was given an exec partial view room. They would still sell every suite option but not upgrade me.
