Not quite - these bonii do not multiply. Let's say the room is $100 +10% tax. He will get 220 points from Amex (2 points per total dollar) and either 400 or 500 points from Starwood (based on room rate only - 2 points per dollar as normal, 2 points per dollar for the 2X promo, and 1 point per dollar if he's a gold or platinum platinum).

New SPG Amex Question

I am a new SPG AMEX member. I have never signed up or registered for the actual SPG membership so I don't have a number. Will AMEX set one up automatically and if so, will they let me know or should I proactively set one up and let AMEX know? Thanks for any assistance.

Didn't it ask you that during the sign up process? IIRC, an account should be generated for you. I would go back and review the sign-up information.

From the first page of the Starwood Amex application:

Are you enrolled in the Starwood Preferred Guest Program ? Yes No
If Yes, please enter your Starwood Preferred Guest Number: If you are not a Starwood Preferred Guest member you will automatically be enrolled upon approval of your credit card application.

I probably filled that out and indicated that I did not have an SPG account and didn't even realize it. Thanks!

Additionally, if you've had your SPG Amex for more than a month and have received a statement, your SPG account number is shown on the last page of the statement next to the area indicating the number of StarPoints transferred to your SPG account. This can also be obtained by viewing the "Billing Statements" on the Amex website for your account.

We just got our card a couple of weeks ago, so I just want to clarify something...my husband will be staying at an spg property for the first time since getting the card - he'll get 2X the dollar amount for using the card, AND he's registered for the 2, 3 4X promotion, staying for 2 nights, so he will ALSO get 2X the points - so he'll basically get 4X for this stay?

Real life example I just experienced: I stayed for 3 nights at an SPG property and I paid the bill with my SPG AMEX. Total charges: $1000. I am neither gold nor plat. I received the following amount of Starpoints: 2 pts/$ x 3 = 6000 points from Starwood PLUS 2pts/$ = 2000 points from AMEX for a grand total of 8000 starpoints.

I will be using those 8000 points for a 2-night C&P stay at a Cat4 property next month which sells for $250/night, so I'll be paying $120 + 8000 points. Those 8000 points are then "worth" roughly $380. Points aside, a $1000 spend translated into an award worth $380. Would it be accurate to say that even if I factor in the points I'm not earning on the award stay that this is effectively a 30%+ return on spend?

What a leap of faith!

Brand new card, just completed our first month, got the bill in the mail today...and today the month's points AND the 10,000 point bonus are already posted to our SPG account! Have NOT paid the bill yet! I'm absolutely certain our Citibank points never posted until after we paid the bill (I think)...

You usually get 10,000 points with first spend and then the 15,000 bonus points after $15,000 in spending.

The points will post before your balance is paid off, but you will lose points if you miss a payment. Typically, most reward cards will give you the reward or cashback before the balance is paid.

Another question...it does not appear that we got the 2 starpoints for every dollar spent at an spg property. For round numbers, let's say we spent $300 at a Starwood property. That $300 is part of our total Amex bill for the month, say $3,000. We received 3,000 starpoints, not 3,300.

Is the extra 300 points something that will appear at a later date, or should I pursue that now? Who should I contact, Amex or Starwood? Thanks.

How does the 30k spend for Gold post as on your SPG account? Does your stay count get automatically incremented by 10 or do I get promoted to Gold and stay at my current stay count?

That is, do I only need 15 stays after getting AMEX Gold to make it to Platinum or do I still have to do 25 stays to make it to Platinum?

Has your billing cycle ended and have you received your statement that includes your stay?
