How can you spend $15,000 in 6 months if they only give you a $2,000 limit? I don't have another AMEX card to transfer credit limit from.
|
After your first 3 months you can ask for a credit increase, also there is no "over the limit fee" so use the website, there is a tool on there where you can see how much they will let you go change on your card before being denied.
|
No one's stopping you from paying your bill early. A $2000 credit line doesn't mean a $2000 monthly spending limit.

I believe AMEX won't let you transfer credit limits between cards anymore as of about 1-2 years ago. I have been denied the couple times I called in to ask to do this, and they removed this functionality from their website a couple years back (it used to be VERY easy to do online).

How long have people experienced after passing the $15K spend before getting the 10K bonus points?
|
When I called to activate my card, it was an option they gave me. I balanced the total limit between the two. Haven't tried to call in and adjust since. |

The bonus points posted to my dad's account 11 days after he passed the $15k spend. In my case, I recently reached the $15k spend but an Amex CSR claims that he doesn't see the promotion on my account  (even though I know I signed up for this promo). They've opened up a case to look into this further. YMMV. Not sure when it will get resolved, but I hope they do the right thing and credit my account soon. |
can you tell me where I can find the tool that tells how much I can ask for each time?

If I'm reading your question correctly, I think you're asking how long it takes to receive the 15K bonus points for the $15k spend.
I passed the $15K spend several weeks ago. I guess I'll call. |
Do call. My husband's posted within 2 weeks after reaching $15,000.

You can either do it on the website or call and ask them to do I think a dummy charge, where it will test to see if a certain amount will go through. This can only be done a number of times in a 24 hour period. On the website login, hover over manage account, click on see all account management options, click on credit and balance transfers tab, then click on check your spending ability, it will bring up a new page and you select your card from the drop down tab. You should be able to put through a $4k card with a $3k credit limit to give you an idea. Do remember you can call every 90 days and ask for an increase, from what I have been told they will usually take a look at your spending history. But you need to wait till your account is at least 90 days old. |

Thanks.
But how can I do a dummy charge on the website? or I have to call? And when I call to increase my credit limit, how do I make sure it is not a hard inquiry on my credit history but just a brief review of my card expense history?

Has anyone heard of a SPG Amex promotion where you get 10000 points on application and 15000 points after spending $500 in 3 months as opposed to $15000 in 6months ?

Is this just wishful thinking or did you see something somewhere? |
