Anyway, I thought I read on FT that you earn 10k or 15k bonus points for spending $30k or $35k on your card in a calendar year. This is not for new card members, who have a better bonus, but for those of us who have had the card for a while. Is this wishful thinking on my part, or is there some bonus for reaching an annual spending amount?

I've only seen initial sign up bonuses for this card.

Perhaps you were thinking of the benefit that gives you SPG Gold status when you spend 30k on your SPG Amex in a calendar year?

You may confuse SPG with the Amex Gold card. The later does give you 15K bonus for 30K spending.

SPG AMEX Forex fees

Finally became an SPG Amex card carrier!

Does anybody know if AMEX charges 2.7% for forex fees EVEN if it is in USD? Also, is it pretty easy to have non-US hotels charge in USD rather than local currency?

Cap One

Cap One is straight 1% initially, but then annually gives another 1/4% of the year's rewards in one lump transaction -- so it's 1.25%.

IMHO, it's not worth it. I'd rather use my Schwab card and get 2% cash back with no forex fee. Even picking up a straight 1% on a Cap One card is better than paying 2.7% just to get 1 SPG point back.

ddsohn - from what i have seen amex have not been charging me when the foreign spend is in usd, even though it sometimes shows as foreign spend (and sometimes does not)

Or 2.7% for 2 SPG points if charging your hotel. Still not worth it in my opinion, but it does change the math.

One more new SPG, thanks to FT!

I finally signed up for the SPG Amex Card and received it today. Thanks to FT, I found the recent offer for 30k bonus points and I'm now doing some clean-up on my cc's.;)
My question is: I still have a Blue from Amex (with Rewards that I still need to use before deciding what to do with this card). When I register the new SPG card online, should I link to the old Amex or not, or it doesn't really matter?
I was just wondering if for future promotions it would be better to keep them separate (although 'm sure Amex could link them by SSN, etc).

It shouldn't matter.

It doesn't matter. Just remember you are limited to a total of 4 Amex cards at once.

Thank you, I'll do that until I figure out what to do with the other Amex card.

Why the Credit Limit is not reflected as Available Credit?

I understand the Available Credit is the Credit Limit MINUS the charges + authorization.

But my new SPG card has the Available Credit staying at the instant approval level where a 1,500 temporary credit was made immediately available for using on SPG booking only. The credit limit shown on the Cardmember Agreement is many times more than that when the package arrived.

I went to the Check Spending Ability area to check how much I can spend - it shows the same credit limit as on the paperwork. However it tells me it cannot approve a purchase amount that is even below the available credit shown online and tell me I need to call.

Is this a glitch of the stupid AMEX website or it is a more serious glitch in their system, i.e. the real credit limit is not activated?

I dont want to go out and buy something in high $ value and have the payment declined!

EDIT:

A reply from ICC to my query made by secured email said I have used up the credit limit to just $1,500 left, and even tell me I can find my credit limit online... There is 0 activity on the card - how can the credit limit be used up?! DUH! That is WHY I have to send the secured email query on the erroneous Available Limit shown online to begin with! I shot back a quick and not so nice reply. I guess tomorrow I need to call and see if I can find someone has a brain to figure that out.

Hi Everyone,

I hit my 15K threshold during my last billing cycle and now am patiently waiting for my bonus points. For those of you who have gotten them recently, did anything regarding the bonus points show up on your paper Amex statement, or did they just post to your SPG account? Just wondering what to look for.... Thanks!

Have had the same situation. Passed the 15K spending on my last bill but the 15K bonus points have not posted.

What is everyone's experience?

That is not necessarily the case. I currently have 5 and I've read of others on here having 7 (and maybe 8).

This does seem to be the rule of thumb, but not a rule in stone. To me, it seems like the Chase policy of one card every 6 months. Some have reported successes getting cards more often than every 6 months, but others get denied using that as the sole reason.

It's definitely a YMMV situation...

Can you spend your way to Platinum Status?

Has anything changed on this in the past few years? If $30K spend gets you Gold, does any spend amount get you Platinum Status?
