We are considering staying here for an upcoming trip to Montreal. It will be our anniversary, so looking for something "romantic." I would like to use points or cash & points, however it appears that the only rooms available with those options are the Cozy Room (open bathroom concept) and two different Wonderful Rooms which specify open bathroom concept, as well as the Wonderful ADA room.
[...]
Has anyone stayed in either of these room types? Can you explain exactly what open bathroom concept is? I get that the shower is glass and faces the bedroom but what about toilet privacy? I haven't seen this mentioned in this thread so maybe I'm making a bigger deal of it than it is but I'm hoping someone can let me know. Visible shower = sexy. Visible toilet = not.

Re room category, do you have the SPG Amex? That would not entitle you to an upgrade per se, but it does get you an "enhanced" room if available. Here, that might mean a view over Square Victoria vs. atrium view. Can't hurt to ask.
My advice: go. The room will be fine, and you'll have a fantastic time.

Hello -
We are considering staying here for an upcoming trip to Montreal. There are two other Wonderful Room types that do not specify open bathroom concept but they are not available using points or cash and points (they are also more expensive than the other Wonderful rooms). I no longer have any status so I'm not counting on an upgrade.

Personally, for a romantic trip to Montreal, I'd pick one of the city's many 4-star boutiques. In Old Montreal, Le Saint-Sulpice, Nelligan, and Hotel Le Place D'armes (as well as the Hotel Le St. James, if you want to spend a bit more) are viable options, and there are many relatively new properties along and nearby Rue St. Catherine (Montreal's main drag).
Having stayed at most of these, including the W, a balcony or penthouse (misleading name) suite at the Place D'Armes would be a very romantic base for your trip.

I booked a romantic weekend at the Montreal W during the spring. The hotel lobby is cool and chic like all the W's. Room is very well put together with subdued lighting and rich colours.
Though I must say: visible shower = voyeuristic and pornographic. The idea is interesting but it didn't play out. It felt like having dessert without the meal. For romance, I am going back to the Chateau.

We stayed at the W Montreal 2 weeks ago on points and had an excellent experience. Room was not ready at 4 PM so the nice lady at checkin offered breakfast coupons for entire family without asking. ^^
Very easy walk to old Montreal and the shopping districts. Very safe to walk around in the night time and the best managed hotel I have ever stayed at.
They even made the sofa bed for our children and the whatever whenever service just rocked. They know how to treat their platinums and upgraded us to a suite.

Nice Upgrade and Great Treatment
We stayed here at the end of July and were very happy with our upgrade. Bumped up to a Wow Suite with the use of a Suite Night Award. (Cash and points stay if I remember correctly.)
Our room wasn't ready when we arrived and because we had our daughter along for the ride I asked to be put into any room that was available. The duty (?) manager came out to meet me and told me that she felt the upgraded room would be well worth the wait...she was right. The Suite was perfect. They offered up free cocktails in the lobby bar while we waited.
The staff was great, the hotel is an easy walk to Old Montreal.
We usually do the Westin in Montreal to take advantage of the pool when we travel with our daughter but we really wanted a romantic bottle of wine on a balcony so we went with the W. It worked out perfectly.

Extreme Wow
Stayed for one night last weekend and was upgraded to an Extreme wow suite. The layout of the room is very odd, but still a fantastic room. One of the few hotel rooms in Montreal with a balcony, which is great to have. The room had a half bath right when you walked in that was not mentioned in the room description on the hotel website. If you are staying with someone else in the room you should be very comfortable with each other as the main bathroom is wide open. There are heavy curtains that can close to separate the bedroom from the living room.
Acura service was available and we were able to get a ride to dinner at Au Pied de Cochon, which was fabulous, as always.
We stayed on a Sunday night and the property seemed to be quite empty, which was great. Nice and quiet.
Staff was all super friendly and professional.
I still prefer the Westin, but I'm just a Westin type of guy. This is a great property.

Have now stayed in both Extreme Wow Suites, but only have pics from my last one- 1012 which is the corner suite with wraparound balcony. Its a bit smaller than the one on the other side of the hall, but the corner feel makes up for it.
Some pics-
Looked over the balcony and saw this familiar site..
Remote control for curtains, shades, TV, lights, etc
Morning sunlight
Great spot for an after work beverage

I stayed in the one at the other end of the hall, 1001.
Advance warning to those staying here in the near future. There is a major construction project going on at that end of the hotel just across the street. (I believe it is the north end, so if you are staying here in the near future you may want to request a room on the south end of the hotel. it will be much quieter, at least during the day). I may have my directions backwards, just ask for a room at the end of the hotel that is closer to Old Montreal or on Rue St. Antoine W.

Currently staying here ... was quite excited having recently made plat status. Got a standard we are booked response, no upgrade not even a room with a view.
Kinda sucks but I guess the upgrades are technically based on availability, although considering I booked this at least a month ago I would think they would pre-upgrade plats to at least a room with a view.

Parking question answered - For future travellers, there is a lot across the square with the entrance on Ave Viger O. Its a covered (underground) lot in the Bank building charging $20 for 24hrs max. Weekend specials are under $10 for 17hrs.

I stayed here last night and walked around the area. Appears to be lots of street parking down the street (towards old montreal, near the Westin).

There's a party vibe at the hotel, close to Old Montreal and St Laurent where there are many clubs & bars. You'll probably want to cab as it's cold and the places are close but not adjacent
