I am a Gold member and thus will have Lounge access. Are we given a choice in taking breakfast in the lounge or in the hotel's restaurant like some other properties?

If so, which do you reccommend and why?

Thanks!

No. Breakfast is free in the lounge only. I was just there again last month.

+1, double confirmation.
You will find the breakfast offerings in CL adequate and good, not to mention the great view of Nagoya & the castle at a distance.

Update review

Hi,

Am currently staying at this property. Based on the last review, most of them are still correct.

Check-in: Was quite a nightmare. They could not find my reservation at the Front desk. Luckily I was given access to the Business center (same location as the Conceirge Lounge) to retrieve my confirmation number. After retrieving it, was told that my reservation was not yet transferred from the Marriott system to the hotel's system (part of the Associa Hotel group). Was checked in at the lounge (all Conceirge Floor bookings are done there). Provided hot towel and escorted to my room.

Room: Was not upgraded as a Gold, was given the normal size room with a King size bed. After a few moments discovered that it was a smoking room, called to change, but told that all non-smoking room was not available and given an option to wait for some time, but just decided to take it. Smell was still tolerable, so did not want to make a fuss about it. Furnishing was ok, though it was clear that it was a replacement were close to date. TV channel offerings were good for a Japanese hotel. Coffee and tea making facilites available. No free water bottle as I read somewhere (maybe only for the Deluxe/Conceirge level rooms?). Closet was rather small and nearly not sufficient drawers for clothes [important especially for long stay].

Shower/Bathroom: Small, but well stocked and good water pressure.

Lounge: Great service throughout the day. Champange was available, but not the best quality. I did not like it. The whites and reds were ok. Breakfast, afternoon tea and evening spread were more than sufficient. In the weekends, both breakfast and evening sessions were crowded. Breakfast spread is a mix of Japanese and Western. Non-registered guest brought in by a registered guest was charged for all the 3 different sessions at different pricing. [rather pricy]. Great view of the Nagoya castle and city itself.

All in all, a very good location, staff was friendly (some better some ok) as expected by Japanese standard. No extra recognition besides lounge access for Gold (not sure about Plt). Also received a 15% discount dinner coupon for one of the hotel's restaurant. Compared to the Hilton, this seems to be much more pricey but location is unbeatable for all types of transportation. The Hilton is roughly 5-10 mins walk to the Fuishi subway stop.

Cheers!

Was here again last week. Free drinks in the lounge start at 5:30 each night, including weekends.

The door was open both nights I was there and I was never even asked for my room number.

I stayed at this property for three days in September. Very highly recommended.

Super easy from NRT just up the stairs from the train.

Great lounge - as noted very nice spread for breaksfast and snacks. Wine, beer, champagne. Fantastic lounge staff - and after the first day they don't ask for id - so I asked them how..."we remember you" was the answer with a smile. I think that was true as they did turn away some other folks.

The manager of the hotel was fantastic in helping secure baseball tickets. Hotel as noted sits on top of a major mall with any shopping could want (and i'm not a shopper) and tons of solid dining choices (being in the restaurant business I was like a kid in a candy shop).

Great base of operations for various day trips to surrounding areas for history and outdoor activities.

Fantastic use of points.

Go!

What are the hours for the drinks/wine/beer? Is there food during the day too or just breakfast/evening?

Is the spa an ofuro-style bath?

From our 2 stays this month.....I second the review below..... the property seems more like a "JW" in its decor and service.....staff is endlessly attentive..... lounge is fully stocked with variety of food and drinks in evening (both Japanese and, umm, American).....and in mornings there is a chef making custom omelettes! Lounge was fully operational on our Sat and Sun night stay.

Regular room was larger than average for Japan......only quibble might be the separate shower stall would be a tad tight for the usual slightly-above-average-body-mass American. If you are a train spotter, or have a kid at the train-stage, ask for one of the corner rooms with excellent views both of the train station platforms and up the tracks for a good distance.....watch Shi, Shin, Shink...aww...bullet trains, regular trains and even local metro lines in constant motion.

Location inside the JR Nagoya train station is ideal.....as mentioned below, there is a department store attached, and so many little shops all under train station roof.....three floors with dozens of restaurants in dept. store and attached office building......staying here, you learn why train stations are the hubs for shopping, eating and easy travel for the Japanese..... we left our 25th floor room, transferred elevators at the lobby, walked to other end of train station for the Shinka, umm, bullet trains.....went through the manned (slow) lane to show our rail passes, took a couple of escalators....for a total of under 10 minutes from room-to-train!

It's a fantastic deal with points for Japan.....consider it a base camp for sightseeing at Kyoto (about a 30min train ride), or mountain areas. Bullet trains (don't ask me to spell Shin....) all stop at the Nagoya station itself (compared to the separate Shin-Osaka station for Osaka), so there is ease of service.

On weekends, the hotel seems jammed with weddings and parties whose guests clog the elevators from train station to 15th floor lobby.....ask for directions to use the office building "Sky Elevators" which connect to the Marriott lobby area.

There's a local grocery store just outside the ground floor car-driveway entrance to the hotel.

Going to a local pro baseball game (Go Dragons!) is a treat.....a fun experience....with each team having their own band and organized fan cheers, it's more like a college football game atmosphere......an easy trip from subway station just outside the Marriott to the Nagoya Dome....with its attached "Aeon Mall" for a good experience of "everyday" shopping.

Hi,

I will likely be staying at Nagoya Marriott for a week in late June. I noticed that there is a pretty big discrepancy in room rate between "standard" (~$195) and "concierge level" (~$400).

I am a Marriott Platinum. If I book a "standard" will I still get full concierge access because of status?

Marriott Nagoya Associa

Staying here now, so I thought I would update the thread with my experience. Excellent location above JR Train Station. Go up escalators at front of building, take sky shuttle elevators to floor 15 to reception, or if gold status or higher with Marriott, bypass reception and take second set of elevators to 36th floor to check in.

Had to change rooms because of terrible stale cigarette smell in a supposedly non-smoking room - second room had same smell but not as bad. Air purifiers in each room and the fact that windows do not open tell me that all rooms have the smell. Furniture is very outdated and rooms are 3 star but bathroom is well stocked and 2 bottles of water provided.

Club lounge breakfast is good with American and Japanese offerings. Staff is attentive but most do not speak English well (which is fine - we are in Japan after all!). Lots of good restaurants on 12th and 13th floors and amazing lunch/dinner to go boxes on the basement floors of the Takashimaya department store, floors B through 11 of the same building.

Another great stay this week, with one hiccup. The lounge attendant attempted to charge my guest Y2,000 to enter for the afternoon tea. Some back and forth and a consultation with a Manager and the issue was quickly resolved. My guest was staying in a different room from mine and not a Marriott Rewards Gold/Platinum member. For my own benefit, I later contacted MR and confirmed ANY individual can be my guest regardless of status and does not even have to be a guest of the hotel.

The afternoon tea time had free beer/wine/whiskey much like the 5:30 PM - midnight period.

I will definitely stay here again the next time I'm in Nagoya.

Does anyone know whether or not the guest room has the 110V outlets available?
