That's very strange. I stayed at this hotel a lot. I never had an issue with suite upgrades. I always get one. no tip expected, no fuss. always very professional service. same thing with the Monarch Beach. I stay there a lot too again 100% suite upgrades.

Thanks for reporting the breakfast improvement at the SR NY. I will definitely select this amenity on my next visit. ^

Does the head doorman Mr. James Sheedy still work here? I remember his profile came up in SPG TV everytime I stayed in a Starwood hotel for that year or so (couple of years ago).

Trapped in Luxury

My wife and I were in New York both to celebrate a birthday and to attend business meetings when the Great Blizzard descended upon the City, effectively "trapping" us in the hotel during the travel ban...but, what a pleasurable experience!

The entire staff was instantly transformed into a wonderful winterland community, at once concerned, helpful and so very willing to go the extra distance to make our stay a pleasurable haven from the storm. Our butler even went so far as to share stories about how appreciative the staff was that they received personal notes from the Manager, thanking them for their extraordinary service during the storm. Clearly the management is doing everything right at the St. Regis, and the results benefit the guests!

Also, for this community, we were delighted to find that [at last] the included Platinum continental breakfast menu $ amount can now be applied to any items on the menu...this is a valuable and much-appreciated update to their policy!

Thank you, St. Regis...we hope we have another reason to be "stuck" with you!

Regarding the Platinum breakfast, I was told that St. Regis hotels that are owned by Starwood give you the full breakfast. But those that are owned by other parties make their own choice about the Platinum breakfast. We'll see what happens when Marriott takes over.

PS, Virtuoso amenity for 2016: upgrade at the time of booking.

Furthermore, third night free from now until September.

For all you Virtuoso/Starwood Luxury Privileges newbies out there, YES, you'd still earn points/be recognized as a status member/be able to stack bennies

Saw on the news that this hotel, along with San Francisco, are being sold to the Qataris. So say goodbye to the full Platinum breakfast.

It's posted in one of these threads, but it's only at Starwood owned StR's where Platinum members get full breakfast for free. At other hotels it's up to the owner if they want to offer that, but I don't know if any others do. I do know that the Qatari-owned StR Washington D.C. offers only continental breakfast to SPG Plats. And currently at the StR NYC Plats get full breakfast even on award stays. So I would assume that will end once this deal is done.

Just checked in today for my 10 year anniversary of my wife and my first date. Used points and a suite upgrade. Ended up in the Milano Suite. Not a bad use of 30k points when it comes down to it.

Nice upgrade! We are locals but staying here on New Year's Eve this year on points. Love the King Cole Bar and looking forward to spending the night there.

anyone have any experience with paid upgrades here? have a cash and points booking here (still debating whether it's a good deal as regular room rates start at $900) but would love a suite. Just a Gold here so willing to pay $$$ for a confirmed upgrade. Anyone? thanks!

Polite haggling at the front desk always works IMHO.
